Is it just me or is something is wrong with these system requirements? An Intel Core i7 processor required...but only 4GB of RAM and a GeForce 460?

  • 64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8
  • Intel Core i7 or equivalent AMD
  • 4 GB System RAM
  • 50 GB free HDD space
  • GeForce 460, ATI Radeon HD 6850
  • High Speed Internet Connection
  • Steam account and activation required

Part of the problem may be intel has been so liberal with what they label as a core i7 lately. At work I'm working on laptops that have a core i7 that is dual core 1.8Ghz... pathetically slow to have an i7 label.

Laptops have been that way increasingly of late. Want a thin laptop? You're going to have to make compromises with regards to processor speed. Good thing for laptop manufacturers that their customers don't have a clue. People don't realize they are paying i7 prices for gimped chips that would get smoked by a 4 year old i5 desktop. I have a feeling you are right that this is the reason for those ridiculous system requirements.

That has to be a mistake.
There's no way that an i5 wouldn't be good enough. There are so few i7s out there compared to i5s and i3s that they would be severely gimping their install base.

Intel Core i7 or equivalent AMD

currently, there is no "equivalent AMD". The closest AMD gets is the 8350, and that barely matches the Core i5 4670.

The people who make system requirements just don't give a shit, sometimes they seem so random.

I have a Core i5 2500K overclocked to 4.4Ghz. But a ultra-low power i7 with only 2 cores, that's just fine?

Also, which generation? 1,2,3,4? Absolutely pointless, but I guess it's really Intel's fault anyway. Their naming scheme is too complicated and pointless to actually be able to write out requirements anymore.

You overestimate the performance of the low end i7 parts. Any A8 or A10 will run circles around it.

If an A4 or an A6 can beat an i7, than my A10 should be awesome at it :D

Intel peeps always gotta bash AMD because they are jealous, but will never admit it.

If the game requires a lot of CPU but not a lot of GPU it probably means bad optimization, the GPU sits unused and the CPU is used for wrong purposes. Wouldn't be the first game to do that.

there are rather silly requirements.

Usually companies will list two cpus. (one amd, one intel) as the minimum requirements. These gives users the ability to judge if their computer is up to the task of running it. By saying Intel I7 and equal AMD chip? that's incredibly open ended. I7 laptop? dual core?

etc etc etc.

Sarah from marketing was asked to draft up some system specs for the box.

If they are going to recommend an unbalanced build, I'd sooner run an i3 and 7970.

But now that I think about it, gaming devs always recommended specs that result in terrible to mediocre experiences. The long time used shady and confusing method of listing crap hardware that will barely operate things just to avoid losing potentials buyers is self defeating if you ask me.

If they even tried once to come right out and tell consumers honestly what would be awesome, I think they would be surprised how many will actually pull out their wallets.

Oh nooo! My i5 4670 with a GTX 770 won't be able to play because my processor is garbage!

I assumed this had to be just a screw-up on vg247 from one of their sources or something: The Steam requirements were the same. The Core i3,i5,i7 processors were released in, what, 2008? I guess there are worse ways to try and idiot-proof software requirements. *cough*WindowsExperienceIndex*cough*

i7 required? I highly doubt that. I think that might be for the recommended specs.

In any case, I'm sure my AMD 8320 could handle it easily, not that the game interests me alas.

We know it is a screw up from half-assed marketing team. Unless the game requires 8 threads, the i7 or AMD = is obviously wrong. Being a console port (they all will be) developed on 8 core AMD hardware, this could be a sign of the times. Problem is then it should have been under RECOMMENDED with lower spec CPU's for REQUIRED.

Crazy. I read the 360 version will have 4 discs. I wonder how long this game is. It doesn't even have multiplayer.

Yeah, that's huge! I know most people have a decent amount of storage space, but for SSD-only computers, that's a pretty big chunk to give up for just one game.

I7 required? BS It would kill sales to a lot of people.. Oh wait a minute Id tech 5 will do that. Another Rage Fiasco? The Real reason John Carmack is no longer with ID!! Damned if I buy before it's beta tested by someone else.

You know, for so called tech experts, you guys really are clueless. How about, oh, I don't know, i7 920? *Gasp* The equivalent at that point on the AMD side would a Phenom II or Athlon II quad core of some sort. But hey, bitching is easier than thinking, amirite?

We all know this. But being tech geeks we are picky about such shit. If your point is valid then they needed to name the model (920), then the standard "or greater".
We are pissing on them because unless it requires 8 thread they are just lazy shits! And I think that's what the [H]'s point was.

actually...that crept into my thoughts but I don't want to believe it. :(

Shitty console ports might not be so shitty. Designed for 8 cores and GNC GFX. Easily converted to Mantle and DX12 low level API's. Sounds better then most native PC designed games.

It is not that hard to figure out. What was the first Core i7 processor available? (Hint: there are the numbers 9 and 20 in it.) Sorry, most of the time, [H] pisses about just because, that is all. Being [H] is not about whining but enjoying the hardware that we have.

Personally, I am looking forward to this game. However, I will be getting it for my Xbox one instead of my computer.
