Child of Light

I'm looking forward to this, the art looks wonderful and I like how it's a turn-based RPG style combat.

Q! What's up buddy??

This one slipped under my radar...it looks pretty wonderful.

pretty excited about this myself. when i first saw the steam page i was like "wow this is a childrens game," then watched the trailer and was like "well call me a kid, cuz i am definitely buying this"

Hey!

This has a lot of promise. Price is right, too. Why the hell not? :)

You get the picture. Sounds pretty good for what it is at $12-$15 if you're in the mood.

It figures you two would be getting hype for some gay shit..

Hahah J/K. I'd love to play it...Only one problem...

UBISOFT!

Does it require Uplay?

I'm VERY excited for this title! I bought it for PS4, so I'm looking forward to playing it tomorrow.

I wasn't following this game at all, and then watched the trailer last week. I didn't read the description and, based on the video, I assumed it was a platformer. I watched another video, showing the first 10 minutes of the game, and it looks pretty cool. I'm debating picking it up, but I'm not sure which platform. Probably the Xbox One.

Cause its owned by Ubisoft. Do you get mad at Valve making there games require steam too?

Valve doesn't require me to open 2 different programs to run one game. Steam is where all my library is. Uplay brings nothing to the table by attaching itself to the game except for potential technical failures.

Nor does Ubisoft/Uplay require you to open two programs. You buying it on Steam forces 2 clients open. So your own fault. And no it brings cloud saves and patch updates and stuff. So it does have benefits. You clearly don't know anything about it.

That sort of seems... beside the point. Uplay doesn't bring anything to the table that Steam doesn't already have. They should either not have a "Steam" version that requires both, or drop Uplay when it's on Steam.

Let me get this straight. Ubisoft funneling everyone who purchased their game on steam through their bullshit service is my fault?

Well fuck, this kinda blindsided me and looks pretty good.

I dunno if I want to buy the PS4 version or the PC

edit: Man the music in this game is fucking great

Ok, I played like 3 hours. I saw the PC version was releasing like a day later so I got the PS4 one. It's 60 fps solid, 1920x1080.

I like where this is going, given that you take the role of a dead little girl who effectively becomes capable of raining hellfire whilst cleaving motherfuckers with a sword that explodes into lightning. My acrobat buddy that I picked up along the way is pretty cool too, given that she body slams spiders so hard they fucking combust into flames.

Basically. Next time, think ahead, eh?

I haven't bought this yet, but plan to tonight and get in an hour or two before I doze off, it just looks so good.

It's old news, folks, and it's a universal given. Ubisoft = Uplay and vice versa no matter what. Yes, I think it's stupid when you buy a game off of a service like Steam for obvious reasons and in general I would prefer to not bother with Uplay at all but unfortunately it is what it is and it's not going away.

This game has "sleeper hit" and "dark horse" written all over it.

ehhh....

the reviews are in on this one and they aren't so great.

I like the Trine like art style. Thanks for the heads up I think I might pick this up.

For $12-$15 I ain't worried about it. Watch the videos and decide for yourselves. The bulk of the reviews far and away have been positive.

I'm still really enjoying this.

For $15 you cannot go wrong if you felt even the slightest twinge for an RPG in recent times. The art is great, the writing is fun, the music is fantastic.

Also, play it on Hard.

Here's the rub, Uplay as a digital management platform is utter garbage compared to steam and origin. Ever tried updating a game or installing DLC through Uplay? Rather than automatically downloading all the required updates and all the DLC you have to go through the methodical process of manually downloading and installing each individual patch iteration and DLC. Not only that, but you inevitably get screwed on DLC pricing through Uplay which almost never matches the steam sales and the store front is terrible to boot.

Although it annoys me to no end to have unnecessary layers of DRM on top of each other, I learned my lesson from having bought Uplay only games in the past that I am much better off getting them on steam to avoid the aggravation.

Exactly. The bulk of the feedback is positive far and away. Again, we're only talking about $12-$15, too.

Exactly. I'm not sure how this dude Dion is defending it really. It's okay to say "well it's worth the hassle cause I really wanna play the game", but to actually defend this crap is the reason we are having to put up with it in the first place. It's not fucking okay for Ubi to pull this shit.

Agreed.

This is a nice game, folks. :)

WTF? Did Yoshitaka Amano do some of the art for this game?

So submit feedback so it can get better. Comparing a well established app vs a 10 year old one is stupid. Origin also does the same with DLC. You have to install them all individually. All my games on uPlay automatically patch. Are you sure were using the same app?

Cause people with no experience with an app make it sound worse then it is. It's not going anywhere. Uplay, Steam and Origin. They are all here to stay. Get use to it.

Dear god not this bullshit excuse...how people can rationalize this as a reasonable basis for putting out a product 10 years behind all its nearest competitors is just astounding! This isn't some garage start up lacking in money and resources, its a multinational AAA publisher which generates hundreds of millions in revenue! There really is no excuse for such a sub-par product. And I shouldn't have to submit feedback, it should be self evident to Ubi exactly how much Uplay sucks compared to everything else on the market.

Origin also does the same with DLC. You have to install them all individually. All my games on uPlay automatically patch. Are you sure were using the same app?.

Don't know what games you play on Origin, but everything from Mass Effect 3, Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 will automatically patch to the latest version and download DLC as soon as they become available.

Edit: all your games on Uplay automatically patch only in the sense that it will run an updater when you run the exectuable for the game which will then download each individual patch and separately install them. So if a game has 5 patches be prepared to run the executable 5 separate times to get the game up to date, a far cry from the much more streamlined processes of steam and origin which will download updates automatically in the background as soon as they are available.

Edit 2: and what's worse is that DLC bought through Uplay's store doesnt become automatically associated with your account, you have to separately download the client installs (and back them up for future use) and then redeem a key within the individual games.

It's hilarious to read this stuff about Steam/Origin/UPlay. All of the complaints about UPlay used to be said about Steam back in the day... Who really cares if you have to have a couple apps running in the background? The days of 256mb's of ram are over people.

Didn't mean to get this thread off topic. I apologize for that. How are y'all liking it so far?

Really nice game! It's got sleeper hit written all over it.

Tell me about the combat. The reason I haven't purchased it yet is due to a couple of the reviews stating it was just overly simplistic and with a max of 2 characters on the screen at a time, I don't think I would feel overly engaged in the battle.

Give me your personal take on the pros and cons of the combat system.
