Now Is The Time To Switch Back To Firefox

I couldn't stand how downloads are dealt with in Chrome, and how it didn't give me the option to change it. Firefox for me!

Chrome has been given me a headache lately. Annoying bugs that a company like Google should solve immediately took weeks to go away.
A shame that sometimes I have to use IE or Firefox to log into certain websites because Chrome takes forever to load them or doesn't properly handle the script.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has that issue. It's so annoying. I've sent bug reports to Google on it.

A marriage is between a man and a woman. Not because of anything but the fact that kids can only come the intercourse between a man and a woman.

I'm fine with LGBT having all the rights associated to marriage, just call it a civil union, gayrriage, whatever. But no, for some (not really unknown) reason they want to change what is a marriage. It's not about equal rights at all.

Here's where most religious folks get confused. The term "marriage" used to be a religious ceremony. It stopped being one when the state used the term to define certain rights (taxes, etc). If one subset of people have access to that term, all should have access.

Otherwise, all unions should be called civil unions - including man and woman. There can't be special treatment for one subset of society (straight Christians).

Firefox runs poorly on my machine compared to everything else. It's the buggiest with Flash for me and it sometimes freezes up for 10-20 seconds whereas I get no such issues with any other browser.

I've been using ChrOpera Next (i.e. Webkit-based Opera) for the past few weeks and prefer it currently. But I switch around fairly often.

Yeah but I get free money every month for using IE 11 and Bing Rewards....
I'm trying Firefox now but if it doesn't have nice scaling forgitabouit.

Not sure what it has to do with browsers, but here's my take on how it should ideally be treated.

1.) Remove any reference to the term "marriage" in any federal, state or local law. Replace it with the term union, for all, gay or straight people. If marriage truly is something religious, then the state should have no place governing it. (religious freedom and all...)

2.) The term marriage would be used strictly for the religious ceremony. In the name of religious freedom, each religion/denomination/church can decide for itself whether or not it wants to perform ceremonies with gay people. Marriage would - however - not be a legal thing. To make it legal a government certificate of union (as in #1) would be required.

This solves everyones problems on this issue. We have religious freedom AND equality between gay and straight people, all while keeping government out of our lives just a bit more.

Look kids, someone that doesn't know what the first amendment means

Because the 1st amendment is all about forcing someone to leave thier job because they dare donate money to a cause you disagree with.

Switch back to Firefox? Like there's a legitimate reason to use anything else, especially google's spyware.

Because the 1st amendment is all about forcing someone to leave thier job because they dare donate money to a cause you disagree with.

It's perfectly legal and constitutional for an organization to distance itself from someone who has made statements they find reprehensible.

Say after me 10 times:

The first amendment ONLY applies to government persecution, not to anything else

The first amendment ONLY applies to government persecution, not to anything else

The first amendment ONLY applies to government persecution, not to anything else

The first amendment ONLY applies to government persecution, not to anything else

Think you'll remember it now?

They simply can't bring you up on charges for something you have said, or prevent your speech.

The first amendment doesn't, never has, and never was intended to protect people from the consequences of what they say. An employer CAN fire someone for what they say, even a government employer.

Great job. Just from you modifying a quote and throwing the LGBT stuff in, this thread was almost derailed by marriage rights. Glad to see trolling isn't a lost art.
No trolling. It was Firefox and their LGBT shit that caused the embarrassing situation of removal of their CEO. A man who freakin' invented the JavaScript. Free speech until it goes against them.

What is this firefox memory leak people keep talking about? Are these just people who haven't used Firefox for years or what? I have tabs that have been open for over a week and nothing seems to be leaking any significant amount of memory.
I use ff/chrome/ie11/safari regularly. The only browser that ever can get in to memory leak issue is firefox. It is a crap browser that I only use because I love firebug so much.

Those who think FF eats up memory should step back and take a look at how much Chrome eats up...that's the pot calling the kettle fucking black right there.
Using more memory != memory leak.
See below:
Okay, try a different sites opinion.
web-browser-memory-use-comparison.png
This is actually GOOD. It means those tabs are properly isolated and problems in one tab can not affect another. Using more memory when you have more tabs is not a problem; esp in this age where memory sticks are dirt cheap. But not being able to release the memory properly is the issue.

Firefox and Flash is a disaster for me as well. I can't watch Hulu for more than a couple hours until something explodes. This still happens after a recent full wipe of my PC as well. Chrome has it's own version of Flash and can play videos for hours without a problem (most of the time)

Not a single damn person has ever been negatively affected by a gay couple getting married.

Tell that to all the people who have been sued out of business because they wouldn't bake a cake or take photos of a gay wedding.

Why would you even WANT someone to bake you a wedding cake or take pictures when they so strongly disagree with you?

It's not about a certificate, its about all the rights you get with it:

Surviving Child/Parent Social Security Benefits
Tax on employer provided health benefits
EITC, Head of Household Filing Status, and the Child Tax Credit
Estate Tax Exemptions
Transfer of Tax Deferred Retirement Savings
FMLA
Immigration of Spouse/Partner
COBRA
Hospital Visitation

There are literally hundreds of legal rights and privileges attached to marriage. It's not because they want a cute piece of paper.
That's a problem with all the benefits thrown on marriage. It almost seems like you need to be married to get benefits. But at the same time there are states that have laws that if you've been living with someone for a certain time, they consider it married in a sense.

Also hospital visitation? When was the last time you've been in a hospital that denied your entry due to relation? Just say you're related and they don't care. 3rd door to the left.

Switch back to Firefox? Like there's a legitimate reason to use anything else, especially google's spyware.

Google may mine data, but they are one of the few companies I have faith bin doing it right. The data is anonymous and not misused. They have solid privacy policy, which - from what I can tell - they abide by.

They also have a huge vested interest in never having a privacy scandal, as it would hurt them tremendously when people get pissed/scared and switch away from their products.

I am much more comfortable with Googles data mining than I am with what goes on with - say - Facebooks application platform, which is really just a system designed for theft of information users thought was personal and private...

I'm also more comfortable with this data mining than I am with Firefox's repeated security fails at pwn2own.

Furthermore, most of the things this guy was complaining about int he performance department is probably because he was using a old computer with insufficient RAM. RAM is cheap these days. I have 32GB. I have no reason to not use Chrome from that perspective.

The added stability from running each tab in its own process is also very welcome.

Firefox served me well from its original launch until 2009/2010 some time when I switched to chrome (can't remember exactly when). In order for me to go back, a lot of things would really need to change with Firefox.

The browser itself doesn't seem to be very problematic, but when you add in plugins, it can cause problems due to the unrestricted way Firefox handles plugins.

The beauty is it's flexibility. You can make a Firefox plugin do pretty much anything with the browser. The downside is there is no way to stop it from trampling on key aspects of the browser and causing memory leaks and crashes.

Google is waaaay too creepy and it only takes one disgruntled employee or security flaw for the entire thing to get compromised. It's a lot better, I think, to use a company's products when they don't depend on gathering, compiling, mining, and selling your data as their main source of revenue.

I used Firefox for years but just got fed up with the flash and silverlight issues. Went to Chrome and once I got used to it, never looked back. SOOOO much faster. But yeah I have to use IE every once in a blue moon on persnickity sites.

Sounds just about right

They do...unfortunately for some people in here its only the speech that they agree with.

More people that do not know what free speech is....:mad::mad:
I think a civics class should be required before commenting online

The people that make my favorite browser aren't associated with any kinda company. It's just some random people.

Why would you even WANT someone to bake you a wedding cake or take pictures when they so strongly disagree with you?

I can think of at least 4 reasons:

That business makes the best cake / takes the best pictures

That business makes the best cake / takes the best pictures in their budget

That business makes the cheapest cake / takes the cheapest pictures

That business is the only one nearby that bakes / takes pictures

Have they fixed the memory leaks yet? Nope? Not time yet.

Funny because Chrome with three tabs open right now is taking up 500MB, Firefox is taking up 300MB!

Crome is just faster hands down. Even on my Corei7 with SSD, I can tell the loading performance between chrome/firefox. Tabs respond more quickly, the program can be closed and re-opened more quickly, etc. It's simply a more efficient browser.

Chrome is buggy as hell (even simple, common sites have major graphical glitches, layout errors and other problems), isn't even as fast as FF any more, and most importantly can NOT 100% reliably block elements that extensions request (such as its versions of NoScript and Adblock).

Firefox and its clones/offshoots are stable, fast, and reliable. Nothing else is.

They aren't being sued. They are getting fined by the states they are in for violating state laws.

How many times do you people have to be told what free speech actually is.
Who cares what the man invented? He is a horrible human being and has no place being in a position of power

it's easy -- open up the options menu.

I'm lazy and just type "download" and it takes me to the area where I can change where my downloads are stored. I put all my shit on the desktop and then move it where I like (otherwise I'd forget about a lot of the shit i download)

I used Firefox for years but just got fed up with the flash and silverlight issues. Went to Chrome and once I got used to it, never looked back. SOOOO much faster. But yeah I have to use IE every once in a blue moon on persnickity sites.

I have found this plugin to be rather useful for the rare times when I need to do this.

Firefox works great for me so no need to change...addons are awesome.

This is why it took me so long to leave Firefox for Chrome. Now, I'm 90% Chrome, 10% IE. I haven't used Firefox in years. Just got too big, bloated and slow (and consumed memory like nothing else). I have a lot of Chrome add-on's that I would find difficult to replicate with Firefox.

I don't think I'll switch back unless they can offer something that makes it worth it. Right now, it's just another browser. It used to be special. Now, it's the same thing in a different package.

Can you refer me to some?

I only have to open up an IE tab maybe once every 3 or 4 months because a site is specifically designed for IE and isn't working properly. I also haven't had any problems with NoScript and Adblock, they appear to be blocking everything I need to block.

If you have a lot of RAM, Chrome should be blowing Firefox away in the performance department, but that being said I haven't fired up Firefox in a few years, so I'm open to being proven wrong here.

The effective sandbox and tab specific processes are IMHO, the big reasons to choose Chrome over Firefox.

In before thread lock?

Nice to see fellow supporters of the civil unions for all concept. The idea of a fully secularized union would be socially beneficial even beyond LGBT rights.

They aren't being sued. They are getting fined by the states they are in for violating state laws.
State laws supported and enacted by whom, exactly? Ah, right.

Who cares what the man invented? He is a horrible human being and has no place being in a position of power
Now he's a horrible human being? For what? Donating money to a legal cause you personally disagree with? Who cares? And yes, I'd feel the same way if he pushed out of his position by a different group for donating to the opposite side.

They aren't being sued. They are getting fined by the states they are in for violating state laws.

I think it's hilarious all the people that want to use their livelihood as a political platform for their beliefs that nobody cares about by and large.

Do I give a flip if some cake maker down the street approves or disapproves about gay marriage? Nope.

If you depend on your business to put food on your table, a roof over your head, and your kids through college. You keep your mouth shut, bake my cake, and make that money. It's the same color and the same value whether it comes from straight or gay people.

Would be awesome to see a family explain to their child they are in the poor house and won't be going to college all because mom and dad thought the world cared what they think.

I'm not pro this or anti that.... it's just smart business to cater to as many people with money as possible. If a business isn't complying with state laws they deserve to be fined harder and harder.

I'm not talking about sex per se. Anyone can have sex anytime.

You are the one that stated marriage is between a man and a woman because they can have sex which results in children. I'm saying sex and children has nothing to do with legal marriage rights as granted by the state you live in. This is about legal marriage, not religious marriage.

Marriage is not for the couple, it's for their offspring.

Yes it is for the couple. Plenty of married people (even straight Christians) get married and never have children and have no plans to.

Ok, so why do THEY care?

Because they are being denied legal rights all because of old world religious dogma that has no place in government.

Make it be. It doesn't matter what it's called, right?

I have zero problem with the government calling all marriages civil unions and granting equal rights to everyone. As long as the rights given are the same. But giving the same set of rights different names to different groups of people is stupid and pointless. Make it the same for everyone.

Not religiously speaking, and that's exactly why LGBT groups are so keen on messing with it.

There are religious gay people. It's not an exclusive club for straights. But regardless, I seriously doubt gay people are fighting for religious marriage. They just want the legal rights, and the government has no business denying them.

Why not 3, or 4? 3 plus a goat?

Goats can't enter into legally binding contracts, which is what a marriage is. And I would have zero problem with people choosing to have 3,4,5, or 50 spouses if that's what they wanted. But the catch is that every one of them must be a consenting adult. The problem with polygamy is that often times the women are underage, or they aren't truly consenting. They are being manipulated and controlled. I don't think a marriage between a single man and woman should be legal if the woman was manipulated into doing it, because it's not truly consensual at that point.

What if they want to get married in a church? It's a marriage after all, isn't it?

If a church will have them, then there's no reason why they can't have a religious ceremony in a church. They can do that right now and the government has no say in it. That's because the ceremony is just for show and has nothing to do with marriage rights. You aren't legally married without a marriage license issued by the state.

Again, it's not about legal rights at all. Most who disagree with gay marriage couldn't care less if they get all the rights associated with it. They don't want only that: they want the institiution they despised for so long associated with their relationships, if only to stir anger in religious people's hearts.

Yes, it IS about the rights. In states that do civil unions, the rights granted are no where near the same.

Tell me which browser wasn't owned at pwn2own? They're all beaten every year. Almost every time it's an exploit of a plugin. Guess what, I don't use flash. Neither should anyone.

Maybe it's the way I browse but FF never crashes on me and doesn't eat a lot of memory. It used to, though. Back to first paragraph for the reason.

Chrome/Chromium used to a eat PLENTY of RAM in its early days. I am talking about 1-2 GB on a regular basis on different machines. RAM usage is a result of what you're doing with your browser.

My experience with Chromium since day 1 to now leads me to believe each tab in its own process doesn't really work, as in it's doing nothing, really. It only "helps" when something crashes the page. That happens a lot in Chromium. Used to happen a lot more back in the day. I mean, that "feature" only exists because they knew their browser was fast BUT it tends to crash a lot. They had to do something, right? I don't remember this shit happening to me with FF. When any browser stalls for some reason, it stalls. Different process for each tab does nothing to really address this.
