I hope it takes off, I'm not selling my note 3 anytime soon to get this, but when I want to upgrade if much rather get this.

The pricing is great -- I just wonder what the likelihood is that you'll get to buy one on this side of the planet (North America) without jumping through hoops.

I'm interested enough that if I got the opportunity to pick one up I would but I'm very doubtful that'll happen.

I've been waiting to upgrade from my note 2 for awhile now, but like others have said this launch might be a total disaster

I'll have to wait until it's on Verizon... lol... :(

The storage tiers seem odd; who would buy the 16GB model when for an extra 50 bucks you can jump to 64GB.

The size is a deal breaker for me. 5.5" is Note territory. Otherwise, seems great - the Samsung-style button layout is annoying, but can be disabled for software buttons.

because a 64GB chip costs less than $50 more than a 16GB chip. you can buy a 64GB microSD card for $30-35 now. just because apple tells you that 64GB costs $200 doesnt mean that it does. :)

The 64GB microSD is also probably much slower NAND than 64GB internal storage.

Toshiba is about to release the UHS-II speed microSD with a max speed of 260 MB/s read and 240 MB/s write. That said, the average speed is most likely way slower! So don't take the bait until the reviews come out.

my main concern is will otterbox make a commuter case for it and will spigen make a screen protector.

Those chips are not as cheap as you think.....and they are a lot faster and much more reliable than microSD..

Great affordable high end option for those upgrading from a Note 2. Benefits I see are Sony Exmor camera sensor, Cyanogenmod and Moto X like hands-free wake-up and voice commands. Plus, it looks nicer than the semi-fugly Nexus 5 and more like the Nexus 4.

Fuck me I want one now.
Anyone know if there is any way at all to get one without jumping through hoops of fire ?

Except you need devices that can R/W at that speed. Probably the only readers that can do that will be dedicated USB3.0 ports. I doubt any phone for now has an SD card slot that will bottleneck on UHS-1 cards.

The software features sound very intriguing.

Its sad to see so many online idiots expressing their anger and hate against a company trying their best and offering an awesome product at razor thin profit margins. These people don't realize how much money all this costs. You're getting best in class hw + sw for less than half retail of any other phone - you have to be insane to be angry at that.

I'm honestly willing to believe that people trolling the internet against the handset are shills for rival companies. Given all the other paid-reviewer/shill crap that goes on, and how great a deal this device is...it is the only reasonable conclusion. Ofc, the universe and the people polluting it are not always reasonable.

One thing I don't understand is how is CM able to get always listening voice control (like MotoX) ?

From what I know, this is a hardware feature in both 800 and 801 SoC's, but legal issues with Qualcomm meant no one else could enable it, e.g. Nexus 5, S5, G2, M8 none of these phones have this feature.

So how did CM get permission?

Isn't that just part of GEL ? Can't any phone use that just like a nexus device?
I'm pretty sure if I download and install Google experience launcher on my m7 and use it instead of the sense 5.5.Or 6 launcher it would work the same correct?

I don't see what the big deal is anyway, I have a galaxy nexus, nexus 4 and a nexus 7 long with my m7 I could take it or leave it.

I truly believe most of them are just people using the internet to post their ignorant point of view. Most of them believe no one will take them seriously unless you truly hate something. And of course there are always the shills.

The internet is a great place for the ignorant to sound ignorant.

I know i'm in the same boat. Its getting hard to find a decently priced good handset that isn't bootloader locked. I love my droid maxx but I also like to tinker and its locked down.

Get the LG G2. It is one of the few phones that's priced rather cheap used for what you get. I believe the phone is a sleeper and since not many people have heard of it, it sells for less. TMobile was recently selling it for $450 brand new. I got mine on swappa for lot less and swapped my phone on Verizon. It has full root and unlock.

I guess you missed the good handset part :p, I had a g2 and hated it, took it back after a week. Button placement and the 3 day battery life one time and 5 hours another day killed it for me.

I'm really interested about this phone but... The size is a deal breaker. I think my Lumia 920 is already large phone. There's no way I could use this phone comfortably (single handed use, pocketability). Oh well... Hopefully 1+ releases mini version. Smaller version of Find 7 would be nice too.

Your loss is all I can say. Its the best phone I've owned and generally agreed upon by everyone online. Lots of threads on [H] also recommend the G2.

Beautiful phone, and awesome to see a new company try to break into the mobile space, but at 5.5" they imho created a niche product and not a mass market product. I sure won't be buying it because it's just too fkn large.

For people who want a big phone like this the price ought to make this a no-brainer purchase.

The note phones do quite well, i wouldn't say this is a niche product.

Surprise! You are the niche market like the people still stuck on VCRs. Even Apple realize that with their slide below. OnePlus One targets the highest growth market which is >4" and <$300.

I can highly recommend Huff's How to Lie With Statistics. It's inexpensive and a short but good read.

The World Wide Smartphone sales chart contributes nothing to the discussion about screen size. It merely shows that Android is outselling every other OS which isn't surprising considering that there are millions of cheap Android phones being sold in the 3rd World.

Your feature growth chart shows that the >4" market contributed ~40% to the growth, but that doesn't support your argument that people want 5.5" phones. The numerical difference between 4.5" and 5.5" may just be one more, but in reality they are worlds apart when it comes to usability/portability.

5.5" while good sellers aren't the top sellers. But I can see them trying this size because there is still room in that area for decent growth and better yet little competition.

Kind of tempting but the whole invite system sounds like it could leave a sour experience. Wouldn't mind a moto x successor with a bigger screen. Will have to wait and see if this phone has anything that can make up for losing active display, as well ad radio performance tests if anyone even does those anymore because the x is like cheating in crowded places in that regard.

No one will ever best Moto in that regard.

Agreed. The specious logic in the above post could be used to justify an 8" screen phone as easily as a 5.5" screen phone. The issue is whether or not 5.5" is too big. It will be for a lot of folks. There's a reason the GS 3 and GS 4 are used by far more people than the Note 3. For those keeping track, Samsung has sold a little over 10 million Note 3s, and 40 million GS 4s as of the end of 2013.

So yeah, clearly bigger is better has its limits.

All I can say is I gave up my iphone for the note 3 and never looked back. My significant other did the same but the most surprising is my niece and nephew who are college students also got notes. It's big but in 5 min you are used to it, and it fits in your back jean pocket. Don't be afraid of a big phone.

There are 3 promises that Oneplus fell short on once they had a cult following;

1) Phone would be for sale in US/UK/China at launch with plenty of stock (warehouses around the globe ready to ship).

2) The phone can hide behind a Sony Xperia Z1, now its as big as a note III....taller than an S5.....now its just pretty much a phablet....

3) You would have a choice to have capacitive buttons or not.....and it would reduce the size.

I am sure there are a few more.....namely the invite only sale.....

I understand they want to tease the community, but the "never settle" theme is now just a gimmick.

Most likely I will buy this phone because its anti-corporate......so I don't have to deal with companies skins, laggy bloatware, and battery draining screen time.
