I have a Corsair AX850.
Recently, I have experiences some random crashes on DCS World simulators, Mi-8 mostly.
Here's the problem. I run the Mi-8 module, and it will stop the computer and reboot. It can happen right as I start flying, or after 5, 10, 30 minutes. It doesn't matter how long. It's random. No CTD, no BSOD, no logs. Eventviewer just lets me know that the computer inexpectedly and improperly shut down. No other logs with any errors.
OK, so I thought, maybe it could be a hardware error - MB, GPU, or CPU running @ stock speeds!!! - but no.
I had it run Prime95 with emphasis of stressing the CPU. But it lasted longer than any session on DCS. NO crash! No reboot!
I had it run Valley benchmark. NO crash! No reboot!
I had it run both Prime95 AND the Valley benchmark. NO crash! No reboot!
Yet, once I ran DCS World, the sim would eventually shut down and reboot!
I replaced the PSU with a Corsair HX620 and it doesn't crash, shut down or reboot. Regardless of how long and what I play.
I thought I was a bad cable or bad connection, and so plugged the AX850 to the motherboard, and for a short while I thought it was a bad connection, but it ended up shutting down again.
Switched PSU (HX620) and it runs fine.
So it appears to be the PSU, but how on earth, wouldn't the AX850 shut down when components were drawing 280+ Watts of power, yet when under DCS World the computer would shut down at no more than 245 Watts?

Ideas? Explanations?

I've had wonky issues like that before. I had a guy whose system crashed only while playing FFXIV, everything else was solid. RMAd the video card, because with a different card it worked fine. Got the card back, same thing. Tried the card in another system, fine. Changed the PSU in his system and it was fine. Just a wonky incompatibility.

I had a bad antec hcp 750 that would pass stress testing (furmark/valley + prime95) , but shut the computer off playing games. So it's not abnormal behavior for that to happen with a bad psu.

Eh, a couple of their high end units are good, but the majority is mediocre. You'll get more bang for your buck from other brands.

EVGA's 1500 watt unit is garbage. RMA was ok but I'm on my 3rd one. Under system stress test I would average about 1100 watts and around 1250 watts at peak. The unit would overheat fast despite the fan being in performance mode. I switched over to Corsair before it took out anything.

I had an issue where on an 850w psu on an older setup (intel 980x, 2x5970) everything would test fine in furmark/prime95 but would shut off during the cut-scenes in GTA4. Obviously the psu was under rated for the setup but it worked up to when over current protection kicked in, and once I upgraded it the issues went away. I've actually found that bitcoin mining programs make the GPUs draw more current than furmark and have been use that for stress testing.

Yeah, I ment the newer 1000 and 1200 Gs and Ps. I thought everyone realized the NEX1500 was shit at this point.

Which is it? Reboots or shuts down? If it reboots, I seriously doubt it's the PSU. More likely RAM or a problem with the motherboard.

Any decent PSU will shut down COMPLETELY (no reboot) if there's a fault detected (drop in voltage, over load, etc.
