Microsoft's New All-in-One Media Keyboard

looks like a nice couch keyboard. Though $40 seems like a lot.

Might give it a go. I tried using a TK820 a little while back but it sucked, would drop in an out and lag like crazy.

Logitech's direct competitor product for this goes for $40 at retail and sells A LOT. I was looking at one about 3 hours ago. Its on amazon often for $25 though.

I use the K400 with my HTPC. This looks like something I would buy if and when my K400 dies.

i use the k400r, i think i paid $35 shipped for it.

With the exception of the microsoft one being spill resistant (worthless in my book, spill-proof would be useful) there isn't any difference between the two. The k00r has every single key and action that the microsft keybard has. Hell, the "swype" crap is built into windows 8.

Very nice. I'm using an old integrated-track-ball media keyboard that has seen better days. This may very well be purchased in the near future.

I use one of the Lenovo media remotes with a thumb keyboard and trackball for my HTPC. Works fine for what I need. I'm not going to compose the great American novel on my HTPC.

Wonder how it reacts to a busy 2.4GHz network in the same space, my old and busted (integrated trackball) kb drives me up the wall with key misses, etc.

This is the only worthy HTPC keyboard and mouse combo:

Yea, I have the Logitech Dinovo mini as well. It was way overpriced, but I've been pretty happy with it. I can't imagine trying to use a full sized keyboard, the darn thing would take up the whole end table. LOL.

I think its been discontinued though.

Steve, how is this worth upgrading from a K400? The K400 has a multitouchpad that works in Win7+ without additional drivers. I guess if you need spill resistance...

I think is just a knock off of the k400, all they did was just add several options thats about it.
I'll stick with k400 and groebuck thats one nice one but the price is a bit on the high side.

My K400 is screwing up but I'm in no rush to replace. I'll probably give this one a go if it gets too annoying.

Ooh that's new. Going to wait for it to drop in price a bit and get one to replace my DiNovo Edge.

The only time it will drop in price is when theres a sale on Amazon.

I'd give this a try if the track pad is better then the K400. I love my K400 but that track pad can drive you up a wall and make your head spin.

Like all media / wireless keyboards its ALL going to come down to the signal. I tried tons and none of them worked well because they all had short range. Many had other failings like over active sleep modes etc... as well.

Ultimately the only way I could solve the problem was to move a USB hub under the couch which is not ideal.

After a reliable signal and keyboard operation response time and an accurate track pad will be key features because their are a lot of media wireless keyboards out there.
This is really weird to see MS coming out with this after so many years of trying to screw the HTPC crowd over in favor of the xbox, why now? Don't say new CEO since hes only been working a couple days.

What is even more bizarre is that they waited till now and right now unified remote on all smart phones has pretty much destroyed any need for remote keyboards your phone is a way better track pad than almost anyone on a wireless keyboard and many on laptops, and you are probably already fast at inputting text on your phone. The only last place a keyboard is useful is if you want to game or something and need a reall responsive one. So if this thing is not a pretty good keyboard its a day late and a dollar short like so many of MS products in recent years.

I use unified remote on my smartphone. It was $5 and works great with a tablet as well.

Shameless rip of the K400, but since Logitech doesn't want to enhance their K400 more power to them. I have more K400's than I can use, literally. But if someone came out with a backlit version I would replace them in a heartbeat. Media buttons would be nice.

The irony here is the Logitech is a 2-button mouse pad while the Microsoft is a 3-button mouse pad.

At $40 it's a decent enough price. But what is battery life?

I thought @0:51 in the video he was going to type "how to catch a predator".

If they make a Bluetooth model I'll buy it. Otherwise I'll stay with the Bluetooth one I have that fits in my Surface Pro cover. It was $40, doesn't take up the only USB plug and has a multitouch mousepad as well (just not as big.)

They replaced the Dinovo version with one that used the unifying receiver instead of bluetooth. But that one may be discontinued by now as well.

Would be better if it had backlit keys since its supposedly a media center\ Home theater keyboard for dimly lit environments

spill-proof? But is it .50 cal proof? RatedRR needs to answer that question.

Well it's definitely not Phoenix-proof. My talons would turn the keys to Swiss cheese the first time I tried to type on it, and the track-pad would quickly become a scratch-pad. Too small and flimsy for me.

The Logi K400 has a VERY uncomfortable bump under the clickers making it a pain to use. I returned mine because of it.

I barely get by with a full size ergo keyboard. This things looks like way too small for me and people like me to actually use. The one redeeming feature is water resistance - something every keyboard should be but is not.

What is with this &%$!*#$^!@#&$* chicklet key fetish all of a sudden?

Thanks Apple for starting this shit.

I feel kinda dumb but I never used a Mac before till the other day at best buy. It had a 1 button mouse. I laughed and walked away and bought a K400.

Can't my bluetooth phone do the same thing with an app? WTF do I need to spend money on this chicklet key shitboard for?:rolleyes:

I found the K400's touch pad to be way too sensitive. Tap-to-click is kind of a nightmare, if I remember correctly.

Logitech stuff goes on sale all the time though so I'm sure it'll happen in due time.
