The Elder Scrolls Online

Thanks for the tip on SweetFX! The game looked good before, but the minor changes from that SweetFX profile make a pretty big difference.

No problem. It was the biggest change I have ever seen Sweetfx make and I use it on all my titles. I'm a lil bit more pumped and disturbed to play my Nord after watching the latest Vikings episode. Holy shit. They drew a blood eagle and it had to be the most brutal thing I have ever seen on TV in my 31 yrs of life.

The elder scrolls crowd which wanted an mmo would be complaining I bet.

Out of curiosity what is keeping you from playing the game in a 4 person party.

Like 1% wanted an Elder Scrolls MMO. The game looks like absolute garbage and the combat is just a joke.

Does this game play better after this Bleak whatever starting zone. I am bored senseless at level 4. So many brown textures. I feel like I'm at a khaki pants convention. I think it would be better if I skipped the story entirely to speed myself out of this area. is there a website where I can read the text for the story if I speed run the starting areas?

Sigh...I'll redo my sarcastic response. Yes the game is different from the first 4 levels and the environments vary from the starter island. You could always select a different type starting zone if deserts are too brown for you.

I can't think of a single mmo that plays the same as the first 3 hours. But if you're already that easily angered perhaps return the game and move onto something else.

Yum, soooo how do I install that SweetFX?

A couple posts above will walk you through it. Basically you need to install radeon pro as well as sweetfx. Point sweetfx to your eso.exe tinker with the settings and launch the game from radeon pro. Make sure to turn fxaa on and select the quality.

That is for an nvidia card. I think ati cards have different instructions.

Try harder next time.

Meh, for shits and giggles I went through his post history and he hates on every single game, hell he hates on everything. Literally, it was fascinating how much he hates on everything, kinda like watching Jerry Springer episodes. You know it's a train wreck but you just can't pull yourself away. Apparently he won't be happy until hentai can get neurologically interfaced into his cerebral cortex.

Just another negative nancy that won't ever be pleased.

If I could I would. :) My nephew and a buddy want me to play this with them so I'm just trying to make the best of it. I'm in the starting area that they chose since they're the ones that really wanted to play it.

With that said, changing the style of my gear to Imperial made the game 200% more enjoyable to play. Later on do you get to learn more alternative gear set looks? It's still brown, but a lot less of the I'm a hobo" brown. Is the bank shared across all characters? Crafting? Trying to figure out where to find my pets that came in the mail.

Lastly, where do you check latency? I'm noticing that enemies seem to have unlimited range on their melee attacks. I haven't paid much attention to the UI so if it is glaringly obvious; sorry I missed it. :)

You can learn the other race's crafts by finding tomes. They are generally blue books that say something like: The Imperial Rule: Tome 3 or Why Argonians Rule: The big schlong #5 or something like that.

Your mail is in the mail icon at the bottom left. You'll see the mail icon at the top of your chat bar. Click that and your pets or pre order items will be in there. Do not delete your pre order items because Zenimax is idiotic.

Your bank is shared between characters. So if you are unsure of what character you like upgrade your bank slots before your toon as those are persistent bit once you delete a character you lose everything on it.

Melee attacks are very much range limited. Most of the time a simple side step, roll, or backing up should make the enemy miss. As far as I know the only way to check latency is with a mod overlay like afterburner, fraps, or radeon pro.

I created a character in the wrong faction as my first character. It has my preorder items on it. I don't see a bank, stable, or much else other than a few quest givers out here in Khenarthi's Roost. Where do I need to go to place my preorder items into a bank so I can delete this character?

Asked in General but got the typical ALT+F4 response so I disabled it. :)

Yea i'm sure there are some MMO fans that are really grateful for this MMO. At least around the [H] though, everyone seemed to want co-op skyrim, not an MMO Elder Scrolls.

If this was a one-time deal like guild wars or of it was a one-time DLC purchase for Skyrim, i'm sure all my buddies would have been all over it. However, none of us are willing to do the sub thing again.

Did you try "Format C:\"?

:p

I guess that is what happened to my Beta Monkey pet. Retarded.

All the starting towns should have a bank in them. Mistral, in (Kentharis' Roost), should have a bank in it.

As far as deleting any pre order items just submit a help ticket. Might take a day but they'll get back to you.

Isn't that the worst feeling? Just $50 *poop* down the drain

When that happens, I try to get at least an hour an half of enjoyment out of it (Whatever game it happens to be). I figure if it only takes an hour and half to pay for the game, working, it's worth it.

Not like the warning signs were not there. When most people are saying it will eventually go free to play, that's not exactly the type of game you jump to buy, let alone pre-order collectors edition cash grabs.

I'm loving the game, I subbed for 90 days on top of the initial 30. Good quests, good graphics, best PvP since daoc - actually a bit better, it does things I wish daoc could have done.

+1000

I've already put 40 hours into it. That's unheard of from me.

Nephew wanted me to play with him so I capitulated and bought it. Game is so laggy playing from North Carolina, we can't get enjoyment out of it. We run in to attack a mob, game lags out so we can't use our skills, and then we get the death screen. We're playing from two different houses, in different areas of NC, on different ISPs. I don't know if there is a death counter in the game, but I know I have far exceeded 100 deaths from shitty lag. My tactic now is to zerg a npc over and over after dying to keep it from resetting. The NPCs in the story missions that are supposed to help you never move from the entrance of each section. They just stand there while I get sand pounded into my ass. So much fun I tell you. Best gaming experience ever! Oh yes, and so many invisible mobs! I really love those that kill you through walls!

Then you compound that with crappy storytelling where clearing one area foreshadows what happened in another area. It's worse than having the latest Game of Thrones saved on your DVR to watch when you get off work, and your loudmouthed coworker telling you that your favorite character died before you could watch it. One of my NPC's isn't where he should be, so I can't level up with a clan member. He got depressed and logged out. Made me feel bad.

The crafting is the same as Aion's Miragent crafting. Basically what I'm doing now is crafting white items and taking a chance on improving them with stones. Well if you fail to improve the item you lose it. I hated that system in Aion and I dislike it more here. Terrible progression system. RNG is crap in games like this. I remember in Aion never getting my Miragent set because my crafting failed to proc. I literally tried hundreds of times and I'll be damned if I replicate the hatred here for $15 a month.

Map sucks balls. I don't do addons since the Curse fiascos in WoW where the addon downloaders installed viruses on your PC in the middle of the night. Travel is fine though and I've used it many, many times running back from lag deaths. I have the entire countryside memorized from running back to my lagged out body so many times.

Combat is supposed to have combos. Fuck if I can tell with all the lag. Blocking and dodging does not work with laggy servers. You'd have to be Nostradamus to predict that shit. On good days it only takes 1 1/5 - 2 seconds for a button press to register. Most of the time I receive no response. I wouldn't be surprised if this game was using shitty AT&T servers or something in Texas. Canadian servers are absolute shit for me also. I would try to optimize for the servers, but there is the problem of the lack of a latency meter in the game. These Megaservers suck ass. Dear Zenimax / Betheseda; there is a reason games have server browsers. It's there because the USA is huge and is not well connected from sea to shining sea.

As far as PvP goes I may never get there. I keep fucking dying to lag so much I really don't care to even level to 10. I have endured up to level 9. I spend 99% of my time running back to my body. I shunned Guild Wars RvR so I'm not really looking forward to this one. I loved the smaller scale PvP in GW2, so I figured with the stealth in this game I could have some fun. Since my nephew is counting on me to heal him in PvP, I guess I'll force myself to do it. But I really doubt that placing myself into an environment with hundreds of laggy bastards is going to change my mind.

So yes, this game is a complete waste of time in my opinion. I guess if you live geographically closer to the servers then you might have a better experience. Right now it has a huge FAIL sticker slapped on it from me.

So what's the deal with this? I haven't had the chance to play yet, but found this interesting.

If you enter a 4 man instance any of the following can happen....

  • chests in instances are FFA ?
  • If you decide to boot a player from a group and recruit a new 4th. Original group member can take part in instance without being grouped and still loot chests

Umm why does your nephew keep playing it if the connection is that bad? Tell him the game sucks and get him to try something else.

Hit the point with kids in my house where we just don't let them play "bad" games. Though I suppose that doesn't work if your nephew is over 13 or something :)

He's 28. :) We play when he gets off work and his son is sound asleep. Wife usually whisks him away after 2 hours. It's his unwind time and we have had such a great relationship over the years that I just go along and play something that he picks without question. It's been a blast over the years I must admit.
