Hi, before purchasing a graphic card, I was wondering which are most compatible for 4k res.

hdmi 2.0 just came out and i dont think too many (if any?) graphic cards have it yet.
hdmi 1.4 spec cannot handle 4k at above 30fps

displayport can handle uhd (not quite 4k) @60hz, however im not sure if many or any tvs will have that port (and you know that displays that will have it will be completely overpriced)

im building a computer for video editing and although I will not have a camera that can shoot 4k for at least another year, Id like to avoid having to buy another gfx card in a year or 2 if possible?

im thinking of getting the asus gtx 670 and website says it is 4k 'ready' however I think that maybe only via two dvi ports at this time? is this correct?
Id rather not buy something with a weird protocol that will be soon obsolete and replaced by a logical (one-cable) standard

is there anything out there at this time?
or is it better to wait?

thanx

If you're not going to be buying a camera that can do 4k for at least another year, it is better to wait. By that time Maxwell from NVIDIA will be out which should support HDMI 2.0.

I would wait, 4K is still in its infancy and its better to wait for more competitive pricing

Last I heard AMD, NVIDIA and Intel decided to stop supporting HDMI.

Display port 1.3 hopefully will be on AMD and NVIDIAs new line of GPUs at the end of this year.

A year is an eternity in video card terms

By then, there will be cheaper/faster/better alternatives

intel helped create hdmi, i doubt they would want to go away from that cash cow

edit: hmm i thought intel was in on it, but apparently not.

ok thanx.
i will wait.

gotta admit its sort of weird that there are already a bunch of 4k tvs out there and even media players that can do 4k playback, and yet the video cards are late to the party.

i think they have always delayed selling there highest end cards in a timely maner...if they did people would make fewer card purchases.....the way it is now many people buying new cards every year it seems just to try and stay ahead. they try and milk us for as much money as possible with all these small steps in card advancements....they don't want to kill off sells of all these existing inventory by releasing Maxwell (huge advancment) now....they would be taking a loss just trying to dump all the older skus

The best GPU for you to get right now is the EVGA GTX Titan Black SC http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IKQOPZW.

You can wait for Maxwell which would probably be a better option, probably, but you're going to be waiting at least 9 months. The Titan Black is your best option.

Majority of them are 30hz 4K which is suitable for TV viewing and hardly any content is out for 4K anyway
