Noob ALERT

Is the original Flaming Cliffs required to be able to play Flaming Cliffs 3 ?
I don't see it on their website anymore but I thought I had seen that requirement before.

Thanks,
jime

You can activate them via Steam. It will take a while as Steam only updates the list once a month or so. I would buy them, try plugging them into Steam, and if it doesn't work try again in a week or so. Repeat until Valve gets around to adding them.

Also, the customer bonus will not count towards the sale. I have $8 but can't use it. That only works for new/non-discounted titles.

anyone have experience with Black Shark 2?

Make sure you get Blackshark 2 and not the upgrade. Even if you have BS1 it isn't worth the hassle with the upgrade version. I had BS1 on Steam and then got BS2 from the website, and now have that on Steam to. Though I don't use Steam for DCS.

At one time I believe it was or LockOn but I think this year they made it a standalone. Kinda have to sive they don't sell LockOn

No. It is now standalone in DCS World. You do not need LOMAC, FC1 or FC2 anymore. They were required to do so originally due to legality issues with Ubisoft but I think those expired hence why the older titles are no longer needed. So $14.99, one install and you're in.

They have one of the worst online shop interfaces I've ever seen, but picked up FC3. Thanks, OP.

Been looking at FC3 for quite some time on Steam as I've been wanting to try my hand in air and land sims. Thanks for the heads up, $15 is a nice price to take my first step into the genre... Depending on how this goes, I might start looking into the more realistic DCS sims with clickable cockpits (the A-10C is calling my name) and whatnot.

P.S.
hope they don't take too long to add the keys to Steam, I want to fire this baby up!

You can try out DCS World for free on Steam before you spend any coin to see if it's really your thing or not.

Let me add that DCS World is required for FC3 to even work. All their newer content aside from LockON and Black Shark 1 all run through DCS World. So it is a requirement to have it.

First time FC3 is this low.

You can try out DCS World for free on Steam before you spend any coin to see if it's really your thing or not.

You can do that with the Su-25T, but I would recommend paying the $15 to get the F-15C, Su-27, Su-33, Su-25, A-10A and MIG-29A/G and S. Simply because the Su-25T flies like a brick and can be a put off to new comers. And most people want to do air to air upfront.

But if he is wanting to try his hand at flying something first hand then (since it is required anyway for FC3) he should install DCS World and try it of for size for 15-20 minutes at least before investing in the series. If he doesn't like how flying a plane feels then he isn't out $15.

Bought FC3 to try out a flight simulator for the first time since F15 strike Eagle on an Apple IIc.:p

I would recommend the F-15C up front. I feel that is the easiest to fly... but in the next week or so the flight model will be changed (built from scratch). So it might behave very differently in the coming weeks once patch 1.2.8 is released. :D But I would recommend it anyways. Keep in mind it is air to air only unlike the Strike Eagle.

Flaming Cliffs 3 is still $20 which is still a great price. Only $5 more than it was a few hours ago. Rest of the modules have been cheaper plenty of times though.

Buying the Huey and P-51 modules just seems like a waste of money until they start rounding out their respective areas. They'd be foolish not to add more WW2 planes eventually and add a WW2 battlespace akin to the one they've got going now.

I loved playing Janes ATF with my MS Sidewinder 3D Pro (had a twist handle so you had full rudder control without pedals)...I seriously must have logged well over 550 hours into that game while in middle school..I would have played it more but I got a job and Tribes took over my gaming time..

For anyone that has played any of the Janes series, is DCS world similair to them? You have realistic flight modeling, weapon performance/physics, just without the full on cockpit interfaces like in A-10C etc? I have watched some of the YouTube videos of the Huey/A-10C play, and it seems insane (the learning curve) even if you create a checklist to help you out.

The DCS series puts Janes to shame!

The A-10A and several of the other planes have an easier flight model. I believe it's all the planes with FC3. It's the standalone versions that are the true to life full on simulation. If I'm not mistaken though you have the option to fly the others on easy mode though where you don't have to do the full on checklist just to get it off the ground.

DCS has worked with the real world engineers and manufacturers for all data so in other words it's as real as it's going to get.

If you want Jane's level get Flaming Cliffs 3. Overall a bit more realistic than most of the Jane's titles but not much harder to learn. The Su-25, Su-25T, A-10A, F-15C and Su-27 are all getting/have gotten advanced flight models. The MIG-29 and Su-33 probably won't but that may change. Avionics and whatnot are simpler in Flaming Cliffs.

A-10A and Su-25 are sold separately, as will the F-15C and Su-27. But at the price they go for it is cheaper to get Flaming Cliffs 3. And it will come with two extra planes.

The A-10C, KA-50, P-51, UH-1 and Mi-8 are all full realism level. I would avoid those until you are comfortable with Flaming Cliffs. New planes are coming out by 3rd party devs such as the MIG-21 and Hawk, but I don't think they will offer simplified FC level options.

Steam added the keys to their list today, so anyone who purchased stuff from the DCS store should be able to add their keys to their Steam account now.

I've bought all but the 'COmbined Arms' module. Great stuff
I had been waiting on a sale for a while, and when I saw that sale last Saturday, I snagged the Mi-8 and UH-1 modules. $14.99 each.
Unfortunately, ever since I installed those my computer has been crashing and rebooting.

Great sale though.

I had no idea that I could add these to my Steam acc. Thanks for that info! I had bought most of these a year or so ago during a sale. Still only really flying A-10C though... Great game.

Sale is over, but for those interested the next patch will include a free TF-51D:

Added FREE TF-51D for DCS World! This is the P-51D with the weapons, radios and rear tank removed with a jump seat added in the back. This does not include dual controls.

So just another plane to fly around with for free. But if you own P-51 then there is doesn't matter much. :p
