Twitter has been in the news quite a bit this week, mainly because of the shutdown by Turkey, but it is also making news by what the company might do in streamlining its service.

During her talk, Schiller called at-replies and hashtags “arcane” and hinted that Twitter might soon move them into the background of the service.

kind of old news/article... plus check out the updates at the end of the article.

They should charge people $1 for each hashtag they use #sickofhashtags

QFT. I'm amused by the people that use hashtags everywhere BUT twitter and think theyre very clever... First you saw it on Facebook..instagram.. People writing them in emails.. People that write long convoluted ones that its pointless as a hashtag, But the worst of all when you hear people using it conversationally.

"And like my cat chewed my phone charger .. And like hashtag totes ma gotes one of those days, hashtag am I right, hashtag mondays"

Keep in mind that Twitter the company didn't come up with hashtags; its users did. The hashtag was created in response to the site having horrible search capabilities. If whatever they come up with that removes hashtags doesn't work just as well, you can be sure that Twitter users will just come up with a new replacement for the hashtag. Probably switching symbol.

Phasing out Twitter would be a solid strategy.

I like your thinking.

I don't think the three of you understand how important twitter is in this day and age.

It breaks news faster then any other media outlet.

It's been used as a vital means of communication for people in areas without other means.

etc.

It's not just for vain people to post pictures of their food or other crap no one cares about.
