I am shopping for a huge new LED TV, going from Plasma to LED so I have to make sure I don't skimp or I will regret it.

I am looking at the Samsung F8000, the Sony W850A, and the new Sharp UQ series.

All have pros and cons. I will probably go with the W850A but I am struggling with the decision.

About 25% gaming, 75% tv and bluray.

What TVs do you guys own and recommend and why?

I bought the Sony 55W900A a few months back. Absolutely stunning TV for all purposes. It also has one of the higher response rates out there. The W850A is close but the black levels aren't quite there. When spending this kind of money I decided to go all out. Completely happy with it.

Amazon has the 55W900A for ~$1700.

I have a Sony 50inch LCD LED Backlit TV. I use it for my Xbox one, Xbox 360, Xbox original and my gaming computer. So far, everything looks fantastic on it. (It is a non smart TV.) This is what I bought. From what I can tell, it is not available anymore but, maybe it will give you an idea of what to get.

The Sony 55W900A is definitely the way to go as long as you accept the fact that Sony might be out of the LCD business soon due to losing a crap load of money the last few years!

I got a vizio E60L1-A3 from best buy for $718 it's pretty good

I've always been happy with Sony TV's. I've owned a few Samsung models and while they're cheaper (and have a better customizable interface), they've also crapped out after a few years or haven't been as sharp.
Supposedly the best way to go on a budget is oCosmo. Those are unbranded Sony OEM TV's.

Also you didn't mention you budget which is huge. There can be a large difference in picture quality between price ranges.

I have a Samsung 40" UNFH6030 because it was on sale for $400 US at the time :p. The active 3D is actually pretty good with PC and movie content. But after playing around with the 3D I hooked my PC back up to the 27" 144 Hz monitor. Black levels turned out decent for an LED if you make sure to change both the HDMI black level on the TV and your console to Full. Contrast could be better, but colors are pretty good once calibrated. I have all those "240 Hz TruMotion" marketing fluff features turned off. Input lag is about on par with other LCD TVs I have played with: noticeable, but not negatively impacting gaming experience.

I have the Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 hooked up via HDMI, while my Xbox 360 is through component since it's an older pre-HDMI model. PC is hooked up to an ASUS VG278HE.

I just recently bought a Samsung UN60F6300. The picture is fantastic, and works well in a brightly lit living room. I absolutely love it. I don't have any consoles hooked up to it, but I do have an HTPC/light gaming PC connected to it, and it looks awesome playing media and HD games. Even low res videos look great on it.

I was originally looking at a Panasonic plasma, but it was too glossy and not bright enough for the room.

I have 60" Panasonic UT50. Since about do about 50/50 gaming, and blu ray. I thought about getting an LED but wanted something with better black levels.

Hopefully by the time I'm ready to upgrade 4K OLED TVs will be affordable.

Call me an outlier but I actually don't have my consoles hooked up to a TV.

I just use a 23" 1080p monitor (computer to DVI, consoles to HDMI) and a good set of 5.1 speakers w/ optical input.

I have been using a Panasonic P50U50. I got it for $350 from bestbuy while I was still working there. It is far from a high end set but considering the price I couldn't say no. It has been great with my PS3 and gaming PC. I also watch a ton of stuff on my chromecast with it. I will be hooking up my Xbone to it and I can report back to see how that is when I get around to it.

PC gamer and console gamer with the PS4. Using a 65" Panasonic VT60 - loving every minute of it. Absolutely the best TV I have ever owned for movies, gaming, anything.

That is another good point for the 40" version I have. Low resolutions do look fantastic. It doesn't seem to suffer from picture degradation when not running in its native resolution or when being scaled up. Aside from the aliasing and framerate issues of Diablo III on the PS3, it looks pretty damned good on this TV compared to when I played it on my monitor.

The new sharps are really good too. The UQ is as good or better than the F8000.

Yeah they are not sure when your looking to buy but several companies are going back now to full array with 2014 models vs the current edge lit. It really make a difference. I have several other TVs in the house all edge lit they dont hold a candle to the sharp I have with the full array its my oldest TV at about 3 years old but that xgen panel that they used is really good.

I have all my consoles hooked up to a Benq W1070 projector and could never go back to a small 50-60" TV. Before this I gamed on a Panasonic plasma. The higher refresh rate and better black levels on plasmas kept me away from LCD's.

I don't know of any 2014 models that are going full array except Vizio and I don't want to wait on them. I also want 3D which vizio is dumping for 2014.

The UQ does have excellent blacks as does the F8000 at least in my opinion.

Hopefully the next TV after this will be OLED.

I've been using projectors for nearly a decade now - if you haven't tried out a projector recently - give it a shot.

I actually have a projector in my basement and I agree it is awesome.
This is for the main living room.

Yeah those UQ are real nice from what I've read. Can't go wrong with one , I dont buy Samsung anything their customer service is friggin horrible almost as bad as Asus.

I have a Vizio M series 55". It does everything but 4K res. (apps, 3d, 240hz ...) I got it on sale during Xmas from Amazon for about $800ish - which I thought was a bargain!

Cold startup time is a little slow (click wait a few seconds before the screen lights up) but once it's up and on it works a treat. I have it hooked to a sony 5.1 system and it's really made my girlfriend appreciate watching blurays / movies (and the $$$ I spend on them).

I'd have to check the model when I get home. My tv is nothing special, some some Samsung 46" 60hz (non led) tv but it still looks really nice and does the job.

I've got a 2012 model 73" Mitsubishi DLP sitting in storage, and damn do I miss that TV. It looks so damn good. Right now I'm using a 47" LG 3D LED (47LA6200). It's a good TV and I'm happy with it, but it ain't the same.

Definitely... Been using projectors about the same length of time and they rock for consoles and tv/bluray. On an Epson 8350 right now with an 84" screen, Polk m60 front/psw505 sub/cs2 center/m40 rears, cost a relatively reasonable amount and is amazing. Even with some ambient light it's great but with light control... Damn.

For pc gaming I use an x-star dp2710 at 115hz 2560x1440. I plan to change that out soon for a 4k monitor at 60hz.

I have a Sylvania 32", but the documentation stated it was by Funai.

It's 720p, but has been a solid HDTV since I got it 7 years ago. I would like to upgrade to something in the 40-inch range, but I'm kinda waiting until my kids are old enough not to beat it up like they do with the current one. Until then, or this one gets broken, I'm sticking with it.

I like what Sanyo has to offer in terms of available ports, specifically in the way of 3 HDMI ports versus 2 for a lot of their competition.

LG 42LH90, but it's discontinued now. It is a fully array local dimming set, I paid ~$1000 for it four years ago and to me it still has a better picture than TVs costing twice as much. I only wish I'd have gotten the 55" version back then, but planning on sticking with this one until OLED sets are affordable.

Very few local dimming offerings last year apart from the ultra high end sets, not sure if that will change in 2014

Sony KDL-60NX810 in the living room
Some LG 32'' IPS TV in the bedroom

I wish I had a setup more conducive to a projector, but my basement just isn't a good fit. If I ever move that's definitely one of those things I'll be looking at.
The good thing about TV's is that if you have a good one right now...it's probably going to be good for a while. 4K and OLED still seem to be a little way off unless you're a really early adopter. Plus, even really strong PC hardware still has a tough time pushing 4K gaming content without lots of detail fine tuning.

Go 4k or Plasma Sony/Panasonic/Samsung imho with that budget.

I think it's way to early to buy into 4K. The technology is still very underdeveloped. You can't even transmit a 4K 60hz signal via HDMI yet. There are very few sources of 4K material, and both game consoles nor PCs can really push 4K content properly yet.

I think 4K will be amazing, but it'll probably take 3-4 years for both content and the systems to reach a good maturity level.

As for Plasma. If you can get one of the Panny plasma's they're awesome, but they're getting extremely pricey as Panasonic isn't making them and availability goes to near 0. From all the reviews I've read Samsung plasma TVs aren't quite as good as the high end LCDs. As far as I know Sony doesn't sell plasmas anymore. At least consumer grade.

^ PC can definitely push 4K content all you need is a low to mid range dedicated graphics card.... and btw HDMI 2.0 allows for 4K 60 fps and that was released as a standard September 2013....

Sony KDL55W802A

lowest input lag tv available (1 frame), does passive 3d and has impulse (which is the black frame insertion for blur free gaming)
