XFX 290 DD ($399.99 w/ BF4)

Great GREAT price!

I know I'll regret it tomorrow, but the lack of X would bother me to no end (similar to buying a 7950 instead of 7970). Hope non-miners get in on this

EDIT: Actually, wtf am I smoking? This is what was supposed to be MSRP for the 290 :p

Wow, it finally dropped to realistic prices. An aftermarket cooled 290 for the same price as stock cooled 290.

I bought one, same price I paid for my regular 290 on cyber monday I just don't think this one is going to unlock to a 290x lol

They updated the page, so that instead of a $80 coupon its now a $10 coupon :(

Still says $80 on the page for me.

*Edit: I refreshed the page a few times and it said $80. Closed the browser, reopened it, and it still displayed $80. Closed the page clicked the link again and it dropped to $10.

The $80 coupon comes out sometimes still, but I tried it at checkout and its not working. TD must of pulled it.

Knowing TD they'll either cancel the earlier orders or swap the coupons automatically.

im a AMD fan, but mining caused me to get a 780 lightning... I sold my 290 for major profits.... I wish i could go back to amd.

I had an XFX 7950 Double-Dissipation cooler that was a total piece of crap in terms of cooling.

Is the 290 DD cooler decent?

I have only had mine for 2 days, but the cooler seems fine. I have two of them and they are quieter and cooler than my two 7970s they replaced.

Not really comparable to a 7950 vs 7970. It's more like the 7970 vs 7970 Ghz Edition. If you bump up the clocks slightly on the 290, it matches the 290x. Hardocp review:

"The stream processors have been cut down from 2,816 on the R9 290X to 2,560 on the R9 290. The engine clock has a cap of 947MHz on the R9 290 versus 1GHz on the R9 290X. There are 160 texture units on the R9 290 versus 176 on the R9 290X. However, as we stated, the ROP count is the same at 64 on both video cards, and the Z/Stencil is the same at 256 on both cards. Those are the only differences: Stream Processor count, Texture Unit count, and slightly lower clock speed. This all means performance should be rather close to the R9 290X."

Yes, but the same thing could've been said for a 7950 OC vs 7970. Sure, those are pretty much equal, but what about 7950 OC vs 7970 OC (modern examples being 290 OC vs 290X OC)?

Maybe I've just been reading the wrong graphs, but AFAIK, 290 OC < 290X OC, similar to how 7950 OC < 7970 OC. An R9 equivalent to 7970 vs 7970 GHZ would be 290X Reference vs 290X Non-Reference IMO, as they are pretty much the same at equal clocks

And yeah, my apologies for all the numbers :D

The custom cooler is well worth the $70 over MSRP in my opinion.

The Tri-X at $449 is $50 over ref MSRP, and that's a stretch.
XFX's DD is in no way worth $70.

$20, maybe.

Still waiting for $50 below MSP on a 290 & I'll dump my 6850/6870 hybrid xfire solution.

Maybe 2015 ? :)

I actually bought my two cards on Amazon 6 days ago, for $499 (yeah so what). They price matched me to $469 on both of them.

Much smoother, quieter, cooler than my dual 7970 setup before.

Just bought a 290x + 750G ssd for $500 @ TD via amazon. Hopefully it ships :)
