Great deal on this tablet.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 (Quad-core 1.70GHz)
2GB RAM, 16GB Flash Storage
8.3" Full HD IPS (1920x1200) Display
Wi-Fi, BT, MicroSD Slot, Dual Camera
Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean)
Weight: 0.74 lbs (338 g)

Link for White model

Use promo code MHSALE10

Note: the default ROM apparently eats the battery (bloatware), but reports say CyanogenMod 11 resolves this.

It's a bit more, and I don't really know how it compares, but Costco has (had) the Galaxy 10.1" for ~$300. I saw it just a couple of days ago when I was shopping...

And 10.1", which don't really compete anymore than 14" laptops compete with 17" ones.

That's a really high resolution for that size screen, shame they don't include simcard slots on these, as TMobile has those free 200mb cards which combined with offline google maps is more than enough to get your traffic, navigation, email, and weather updates while on the road if you plan to also use this as a carputer.

I made a magnet mount for my 8" Pantech Element tablet and find it really useful in the car. Streams music to my radio over bluetooth 2.1 which is nice, and when you root these and get rid of the bloatware, I have to say Android isn't bad.

Has been $225 on a couple occasions and a one time super low offer at $150 for all of about 2 hours.

It can be used for navigation anyhow, thanks to the GPS, and you can always tether to your phone if absolutely necessary, but as a WiFi model, it is what it is. Even the Samsung Galaxy Pro 8.4 is $399 for the WiFi only model.

I have a Nook HD+ 8.9-inch (1920x1280), which was my second tablet over a 7-incher at 1280x800. I will say that the difference the extra size and resolution offer is not to be dismissed lightly. Web browsing is far more palatable, both due to the extra screen size, and thanks to the sharp resolution that makes the small letters sharp and not blurry. High res movies, PDFs, plain reading, and even comics are a joy too. The only reason I am getting rid of the HD+ is because I sold it for ... $250 (I live in Brazil), so this is a free trade in my case, and the LG, aside from the faster CPU, is also much much lighter (338 g instead of 515), which for a hardcore reader such as myself will be a big difference.

10 inches is nice, but too big for my personal use, and 7 inches is just on the small side. Apple was very clever with the iPad Mini as the size really hits that sweet spot.

The no-data whatsoever navigation systems tend to suck, and you can't really look things up on the road. If you have a tether option, then yeah that's moot.

That's what she said.

Isn't the Kindle Fire HDX a better buy @ $199? Much better CPU, same rez but 1" smaller.

It depends on what you want. My first tablet was 7 inches. For reading it was fine, but for anything else, I found myself constantly wishing it was just a bit bigger. For web browsing, PDFs, movies, or even comic viewing, the difference in size will be notable.

Note the Fire does not accept microSD cards, so the memory you see is set in stone. Also, it does not have a rear camera or a GPS chip. If quad 1.7GHz instead of quad 2.2GHz is what matters the most to you, then by all means.

Speaking from experience with my LG G2 phone, I will add that the IR blaster is a very cool feature.

Very tempting but I think I'll save the money for the Nexus 8 in a couple months
