I am changing motherboards. My operating system is on a ssd hard drive. Is doing a clean install on a ssd hard drive different than a mechanical hard drive? My operating system is Win 8.1. I am going from a MSI Z77 board to an MSI Z87 board.

its no different, just pick the ssd when you start the install and it will go on its merry way installing to it :)

Yes. The SSD will install faster :)

Your system is already booting from the SSD so theres really no bios change needed. The windows installer should see the existing drive as it is right now. However, you could use this as an opportunity to make sure your sata controller is in AHCI mode instead of the old IDE compatible mode. Although making this change once installed isn't too difficult.
