Titanfall - Respawn Entertainment's first game

Yes. That's the point of them selling the game - so people can play it. It had a lot of hype, a lot of exposure. They knew that it was going to bring in a LOT of traffic. I don't have the game, but there is no excuse for having connection problems because too many people want to play. SimCity, Healthcare.gov, etc.. You KNOW that it is going to be hammering your servers and network. Upgrade, build more than you expect, do what needs to be done to make your customers happy. Otherwise, you get what you see here - a lot of pissed off people trash talking the game and the companies involved. Could be the greatest game ever, if people could play.

I plan on picking this up after holiday. Things should have settled down by then, and I can have a great time playing. The beta was a great experience, so I'm definitely looking forward to it.

I play on the east coast servers. I had the connection lost problem until about 1AM. After that it ran perfectly fine without any lag or connection issues. I guess it was a case of every XBOX One and PC player logging in at the exact same time and the servers trying to load balance at the same time. Now contrast this with Diablo 3 at launch where I was lagging for months after launch and still lag in that game today with 1,500ms lag spikes. I think Respawn did alright with the launch so far. I'm also sure that new issues will crop up over time and be patched out.

Nope, I'm not. Because I know what my preferences are. ;)

You realize EA has nothing to do with the game's servers right? Unless you want to complain about it being Origin I feel like your preferences are out of whack.

They are the publisher, who do you think is likely paying for the servers and things?

I stated I was not going to purchase the game because it's published by EA and it's multiplayer only. My preferences had nothing to do with the launch. At all.

The beta was awesome, so I'm hoping to have a similar experience when I do buy it. I'll admit it's a super popular and hyped up game, but there should be no full servers at launch. Too many reports these days (Diablo 3 is another example) of problems at launch. Even the PS4 had some issues at launch. It makes those that are thinking about buying second guess their decision.

So you have a lot of experience in engineering solutions to handle 2 million+ concurrent connections/requests? Because if it's so easy, just throwing hardware at a problem, you should really look at making a bundle of money consulting for these companies.

Please name just one blockbuster multiplayer release in the last 3 years that worked flawlessly day one. None of the battlefields, CoD's, major MMO's, have launched without having some connection or capacity issues.

Gotcha, makes sense. There are tons of people out there blaming EA for the servers, sorry to group you into them.

No worries mate :) Like I said in my previous post, it looks like Respawn put a pretty good game together, from the looks of it.

P.S. EA can still go fuck itself :p

Do I have the experience? No. Of course not. But, look at the press info Microsoft pushed as far as Azure and their massive computing data centers that can handle anything and everything. Harness the power of the cloud! ;) Many of those companies that have those issues release statements like "We didn't know there was going to be that much of a load. If we had known we could have done better..." and things like that. Are they lying? Could they not have done better? Did they hit a brick wall and we can't go any further?

Like you said - the past few years releases have all launched with some issue. Some a LOT worse than others. Some are very minor, while others are just downright embarrassing. But, if Titanfall has the minor, very temporary connection issues, that's not too bad. If it last more than a few days, then they screwed up (SimCity, Diablo 3, etc..). That initial first day or two, you're going to get hammered. Hard. It'll happen. But, if people cannot play at all for days on end? That launch was a failure (SimCity - some people couldn't connect for a couple weeks, then it was A-OK after that).

Edit - And a patch was released to fix Titanfall issues (http://www.geekwire.com/2014/titanfall-servers-go-patch-gets-things-running). Plus, they are asking why Azure didn't scale properly like it should have...

You weren't talking about press expectations, you were talking about why this happens at all when they know they are going to get hammered day one. My point is launching these huge games are difficult. All big game releases have their hiccups when they release and we as gamers need to temper our expectations better. Getting pissed off because you can't play day 1 doesn't do you any good and it's not like the developer doesn't know people are going to be pissed when customers can't play.

With Azure, it shouldn't happen. It should scale to meet the needs. From what I've read, even MSFT is looking into why it didn't do that properly, as well as a patch being released to help out. It's not a botched launch at all. But, at what point for all these AAA titles (like you said - name one in the past 3 years that hasn't suffered issues at launch) does someone say "We might want to up our resources for a smooth launch.". Or are gamers always going to have issues with AAA launches? At least with Titanfall, they tried to fix it with Azure. It still did well considering this is an online only game, with tons of hype.

If you run a giant company like EA there is no excuse for not having day 1 capacity. The reason is simple. You have many games and therefore should have a large total capacity. At any given point in time almost every month EA is releasing 1 game or another. A large cluster of servers should be dedicated to rotating around and servicing which ever game is new and being released. That is the whole point and advantage of a large company.

IF you are not going to do that then GTFO of trying to control the servers and let the players host their own and manage it.

You never heard of this shit back in the day when everyone ran their own servers. In fact at the start their was often an over supply of servers.

Launching games is only difficult because they are trying to be cheap. They know that the initial rush will not last so they try to cheap out on how many servers they buy.

That's why we wait a couple weeks and get it on sale.

FTFY, since Microsoft is running the servers for Titanfall.

Played the "campaign" for a couple hours flawlessly and got to the last level "Mad Men". But now everytime I join a game on that level my game crashes and says "Titanfall.exe has stopped working". I've tried to repair game files and have reinstalled graphics drivers (335.23) twice with no fix...

I just finished a 3 1/2 hour session and my ping was 22ms - 24ms the entire time. Just before I logged I spiked to 33ms. To say I am happy with the Microsoft Azure servers is an understatement. Matchmaking is instant. Matches start on time.

And Capture the Flag (CTF) is better than Quake, Unreal, BF3, you name it. I'm addicted to it. :)

The more I read about today's 2 releases, the harder it gets for me to decide on which to play first when I get home: Dark Souls 2 or Titanfall . I'll play DkS2 while waiting for Titanfall to install on my PC ;).

No fucking way this is real life. Is it that good? I used to be obsessed with Unreal Tournament.

Game spot gave this game a 9/10. No way it's that good. Or is it???

Ps -- I HATE cod.

If you hate CoD then you'll love this game. I hate CoD and had a blast with the Titanfall beta. I literally had a smile on my face the whole time while playing it.

Just ignore all the haters comparing this game with CoD, like saying "CoD with mechs." It has much more depth than that and doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence. If this game wasn't developed with West, Zampella, and half the original Infinity Ward development team involved, I seriously think that people wouldn't be making this comparison.

Watched the angryjoe stream last night which someone had linked here, fell asleep during it. My biggest gripe is probably how poor your aim can be and still magically get kills. Like just point a rifle in a vague direction and pew pew the other guy's dead. The aiming is extremely forgiving and seems very much geared for console kids with analog sticks.

I played the beta-demo until Lvl14 and found the game ultimately lacking in depth. I may try again when the game goes on sale for $20 but so far the couple hours I've watched streams of the release have not vaulted me over the fascination threshhold.

And yes, Call of Duty: Robots is an apt description, not sure how anyone can argue that. Just embrace it for what it is - short arena battles where getting the drop on the other guy matters more than your ability to aim.

I have a question for everyone who currently owns the game.....

I'm new to FPS (online) my first game was Battlefield 3 (light playing) and now BF4 (heavy playing). I love Brokenfield because it's such a rich and in-depth game. Load outs are awesome, levels are pretty fun but most importantly, you can play the game 10 different ways or more. Tanking, air, AA, Recon, run n gun etc etc. I love the game for that.

Now....aside from the novelty of mechs, what exactly does Titanfall give me? Sure it has a few game modes that seem fun but as does BF4. Titanfall to be seems like it will wear off rather quickly. It seems pretty one dimensional and even the levels seem like they're very similar. OF course, this is all just on what I've seen, I have not played it so I could be completely wrong.

So what is the draw and what will make you stay?

I want to buy this game, I just don't want to pay $50 and then not be playing it in a month or two.

I'm hoping you're right.
I can only speak from my experience. If you're skeptical I would definitely recommend either waiting for a sale or watching some streams. If anything has been learned from the beta is that opinions are very polarized for this game even when ignoring those who are quick to compare this game to CoD.

This game really can't be compared to Battlefield. It's really hard to explain the draw until you actually play it. While the gameplay is simple, you need to embrace all the different mechanics to really enjoy it, including playing with the AI-controlled characters on the field.

During the last couple of hours I had with the beta I started discovering a lot of depth that provided for some interesting strategic options that made me enjoy it more. For example, your team mates can rodeo your own mechs that will prevent enemies from rodeo'ing it themselves, while your team mate can shoot the enemy from a movable cover. You can also put your mech in follow mode, which acts as bait for the enemy team to rodeo and allows you and your own team to get easy kills while they're vulnerable on the back of your Titan. These are just the few things I began to discover, so I hope to find out more with the full release tonight.

Hmmmm....FPS MP online only gets 9/10 on paid for websites. You don't say?

Yes they have to all be paid off because God forbid the thought that people might actually like it. It's not like there weren't tons of people coming off the beta loving the game and tons of people gushing about it from prior public events or anything like that.

For what it wants to be, it is a very balanced game with lots of polish and deserves it's score. Even ShackNews gave it a 9/10 rating. For everyone else that wants it to have more "stuff" crammed into it, sorry it's not for you. If you didn't like the game play during the open beta then pass on this purchase. If you liked the open beta then get the game at your price range as it's chock full of more of what you like.

Anyone getting a ton of stuttering using SLI/CF? Even at 40-50fps nothing feels smooth :\

I am assuming its a NVIDIA driver issue? Hopping for a patch ASAP

My only complaint is the campgain bullshit. Wish it would let us select the missions so we don't have to repeat them to figure out what we didn't do.

Ill listen to the user scores first where it scored very mediocre across the board.

Did you get the Nvidia drivers for Titanfall? Also you can't really run Insane with a 1.5GB video card. It stutters really badly from what my buddy was saying.
