4K Surround @ 60Hz = WIN!

You rarely miss an opportunity it seems.
Yes, this guy is clearly some sort of Dictator living in opulence my God what a fortune he's spent.
You should go and protest the massive waste of resources for pure entertainment and spectacle by running across the grid during the start of the Bahrain GP this year.
eh? i hardly post on here. the only super negative post i've made was talking about a logitech headset (shudder).
Actually, you complained about corsair, steelseries and razer headsets as well. :p

I think he confused you with someone else.

Oh... yep. I did. Names are pretty similar but the chip on my shoulder just fell off. There's like 1 million members at [H] so need to be a little more careful thinking I know who's who at 6 months.

I've tried portrait surround. It makes no sense imo. Bezels really get in the way of things, and it doesn't really give you an immersive fov like landscape does. Maybe with 4:3 aspect it would make sense, but 16:9 is just horrible for this purpose.

Looks nice, I hope to go 4K as well later on this year, just waiting for an affordable 4K TV that will do 60Hz and I'm not a fan of running multi monitors, I just want a huge single screen to avoid issues and hassles.

This. Something between 40-50" @ 60Hz.

LOL.. thanks to some... not so much to others..

either some of you are blind or stupid.. perhaps both.

10FPS? haahhaha..

Did you guys not see the screenshot I posted?

F1 2013 gives me > 100FPS @ 6480x3840 w/ everything maxed out (No AA).

Here's the full size screenshot:
LL

And, AC4 gives me ~ 50 FPS with everything maxed out (No AA, HBAO (low), Soft Shadows (Normal):
ibbr1li8PHkgdM.jpg

These two are with 3-Way SLI btw.

The only "issue" I'm having is that certain games slow down to 0 - 1 FPS in the MENU and become a slideshow. Once in game, it works fine. F1 2013 does this.

Arkham Origins does this but it's so slow in the Menu, I can't even get into the game.

Borderlands 2 w/ everything maxed out (No AA) gives me >60FPS at this resolution.

Yea, keep barking about "unplayable" and "oohh those bezels". LOL...

I upgraded from 3 30" monitors in portrait surround @ 5160x2560 (13.2MP). This is almost double that resolution.

Old setup:

New setup:

So you went from 24" to 30" and noticed that your viewing distance is extremely short. Did you simply want to get 4K or was it a combination of desire to get 4K and compensate for the viewing distance? Looks nice! Any plans for debezeling?

Dude, I love portrait setups but your bezels ARE shit. You need to do something bout that, maybe debezell those displays and see what you got, because as is right now it looks fucking hideous. Seriously your giving us portratiers a bad name!

And I know of where I speak because I am the creator of this Godly "Vegaesque" setup.

Did I walk into the wrong forum? There's no such thing as "egregious" spending on [H] as far as anyone else's money should be concerned.

Now that looks pretty dam good. It flows with super small bezels.

Your setup rocks don't pay attention to haters the internet is full of them. I wouldn't "debezel" anything either btw.
Have you tried running crysis3 or witcher2( without ubersampling) on such resolution by any chance? How much fps did you get approximately if yes.
Thank you.

Sigh....were not haters. I am actually trying to help the OP by showing him how much better and cleaner his setup can look. Its kinda like this, say a rich dude pulls up to a serious car show full of all kinds of custom one off cars and hes rocking a bright green stock lambo. Yea, its a lambo, yea its expensive, but nobody at the car show really gives a shit because its a lame fucking small dick ostentatious status symbol which required zero personal labor of love. Nobody really respects the dipshit who only writes a big check and then says, I'm the man yo look at my expensive shit. Now if OP actually gets his hands dirty and pulls off those rotten bezels, then I may give him some cred....but until then, there is a reason why he is the only one rocking a triple 4k setup and its not the $3,300 entry fee.....its because OP's"Uber Rig" bezel gap is wider than MADONNAS BEZEL GAP!!!
madonna_crotch.jpg

bastard,

I am NOT going to debezel the monitors.

Looks nice OP. I think the question I would ask is can those monitors be debezeled? Its my understanding that many cannot for one reason or another.

Not yet. Installed Win 8.1 Pro pretty recently and haven't gotten around to installing all the games yet.

Here are some more full-size screenshots (25MP madness):

holy shit dude please either thumb or link those

LOL seriously, my desktop (i7 2600k oc'd, gtx 780 oc'd, etc.) actually froze for around 15 seconds with firefox opening this thread. I can only shudder to think what would have happened to my phone, probably wouldn't have survived the experience. :p

Dear god are those beautiful though.

Thanks for posting the screenshots.

Do you have any more screenshots from other games?

Will you post gaming screenshot comparing 4k gaming to surround 4k gaming? Do you see more depth with Surround 4k in like Battlefield vs just a single 4k?

LOL.. sorry guys.. noob move on my part. I just copied the links from Minus and used the tags.

How do I thumbnail preview them so it's more manageable? Other forums don't seem to require that - it just shrinks automatically and when you click it, the full size opens(?).

@markkin

I just literally set this up yesterday. Haven't even installed many games on the rig yet.

Will definitely post some great content soon. These are just vanilla shots from a couple of games. One hand was on the mouse and the other... lmao j/k

As I mentioned in an earlier post, one of the main issues (the only issue thank goodness) I'm having is in certain games, the MENUS slow down to 1 FPS.

F1 2013 does this. But in game, it works beautifully. Some games like Arkham Origins are so freaking slow in the Menu (1 - 2 FPS), it's a slideshow and I can't even get into the game! LOL..And there's no launcher for me to configure the settings ahead of time(?). Or is there?

I think it's maxed out including TXAA and that's why it's stuttering like hell in the Menu.

I just installed Metro LL. Will take some good screenshots.

With the preset on "Very High", AF x16, No SSAA, and "Normal" Tessellation, I get around 30FPS @ 6480x3840 which is insane for Metro LL since it's so demanding.

Borderlands 2 is the best so far - I get around 80FPS most of the time with EVERYTHING maxed out (No AA) and it plays incredibly well. At this resolution, I just stood there and enjoyed the scenery! haha...

I've done a lot of 4K content already with my previous setup - the 3 30" monitors in 3x1 Portrait Surround @ 5160x2560 (13.2MP).

Here are a couple of TRUE 4K videos:

BF4:

Crysis 3:

I'm grinning like the Grinch from ear to ear looking at this setup. Awesome setup, by the way.

Love the setup...

But how is me viewing a massive screenshot at 4K resolution on a 1080p monitor representative of what things would actually look like on the 4K monitor? Sorry it that wasn't the intention, but the graphics just look jagged and rubbish. If you squashed it all down so the pixel density was four times as good as this 1080p but the screen size was the same, it would be more accurate. Only way would be to see it in person of course, just don't see the point in those screenshots.

While that setup is awesome, I'd still be concerned about framerate. There isn't a GPU setup available that can drive all those pixels at a solid framerate with maxed details in the latest gaming titles.

That's why he runs no AA on most and some other things.

It will be a few before cards catch up, hopefully soon.

After having the setup for a couple of days now, I'm actually quite surprised at how well 4 GPUs scale at 25MP.

With BF4, most of the settings are "High" w/ no AA and SSAO, I'm gettingi ~70 FPS which is fantastic. Yea, it's not "Ultra" but at 25MP, the clarity is unparalleled compared to a lower resolution @ Ultra settings - and a 13.2MP at that!

BF3 is even more amazing - I get 80 - 100FPS w/ settings on High and no AA. I was shocked, honestly. At this resolution to get buttery smooth gameplay is quite remarkable. I thought I'd have to wait till Maxwell's 512-bit bus GPUs to fully let this resolution shine.

The GK110 holds its own.

No AA is due to VRAM limitation. With 3 30" monitors and everything maxed out in BF4 including 4xMSAA, I was using about 5.3GB of VRAM.

The game simply crashes when I turn AA on at 25MP.

When the best GPU in the Maxwell lineup comes out, that will really show what this setup can do - hopefully those cards will have either 8GB or 12GB of VRAM.

Until then, 4-Way SLI GK110s can really manage 25MP without much issue. A pleasant surprise for sure! :D

Oooh let me be a jerk too ....

I love Surround/Eyefinity setups but YOUR bezels ARE shit. You need to do something about that like what I did (buy projectors!) because right now it looks fucking hideous. Zero bezels dawg! Get on my level!

Or you could just say that his 4k Surround setup is pretty sweet and not be an ass.

Well now that you mention projectors, I am the inventor of the 12' wide curved Herculean Screen, which you can see in action here with TWO projectors using edge blending software for a combined seemless image.....yea you've fucked with the wrong dude...crow is that way, go get yourself a mouthfull :p

OP, that is a beautiful sight to behold. Very nice setup.

Not hating... I have to say, amazing resolution, ridiculous setup. I just wish the manufacturers would make these things with multi-monitor in mind and reduce / eliminate the bezels. I have two Dell 30's and side by side the bezels are insane at 2 inches.. Although I would love just a single 4K monitor let alone more than one!

I have a similar eyefinity setup (not same res) and love it. Three 1920x1200 IPS 24" displays in portrait mode.

I didn't remove the bezels either. The monitors are too expensive for me to do something like that. And now, a few years later I'm thinking of selling them so I can get a 4k setup. I wouldn't get as much if I had ripped the bezels off.

So no worries, OP. Keep the bezels if you want or don't. I don't even notice them anymore and since you are coming from a similar setup I'm sure you feel the same way.

To those that scoff, "no AA," remember that AA is the result of being able to see individual pixels. As monitors approach and exceed retina quality, AA becomes much less useful or even pointless.

My only wish, and it's not a criticism of the OP, is that more people would buy 16:10 displays. It's a much better aspect ratio, especially when you put your monitors in portrait, and if there were a bigger demand for it then we might actually see some 3840x2400 displays come to market.

Congrats OP on the new purchase! I'm hoping to get at least one 4k monitor in the next couple years.
