So I see people complainin about current 4k tv's limited to 30hz over hdmi, a problem if you are going to use it for a pc monitor. But is it really that big of a deal if you are using it to watch movies? (blown up 1080p movies) I thought most movies were only filmed at 24fps anyways.

Yeah it does. I could sit here and type out a long response but instead I'll say should force 30hz on your pc and watch a movie file that is 24fps. Compare to 60hz and see for yourself.

Just did it and didn't notice a single difference during the movie, using the mouse and interface yeah sucked but movie seems the same to me.

Ya.. it's really not. If the display supports native 24 hz operation it'll be fine but trying to watch 24 hz content on a 30 hz screen will produce all kinds of artifacts that'll mess with your head. Don't do it.

Many of the 4k tv's input is limited to 30hz (thanks to limitations of hdmi 1.4a), but actually display much faster (for example, some of the Sekei's are capable of 120hz). This makes the playback of both 24hz and 30hz (and 1080p 60hz) smooth. It is not the same experience as a display that is artificially limited to 30hz, unless the tv in particular is only capable of displaying 30hz.

They don't display at 30 lol.

If you are playing back something that is 24fps like a blu-ray and the program you are using is set to sync your display to the file out put it will be fine and look good. I run XBMC in my theater and have it do 1080p@24hz when a movie that's 24fps is played(film is usually 24fps and video is usually 30fps) The interface is running 60hz till the movie plays. If your going to just use a 4k display for movie play back it's fine you won't notice the difference. Blu-ray player's do the same thing they send out a 1080p@24hz signal to the tv then the tv uses whatever pull down system it has built in. If not you run into audio sysnc and the whole picture looking like it's moving to fast(soap opera effect) if you trying to run it at a higher FPS with out the player or scaler adding frames like in 3-2 pull down.
