Xbox One & PlayStation 4 Comparison Thread

Why would a comparison thread have exclusive games listed?

Which game are you talking about Strider? It's an indie game, I can put those up as well but generally speaking they all perform the same. Strider obviously being the exception since that game for whatever reason also uses TF.

Yeah nice try, im not talking about an exclusive game. Im talking a multiplatform with exclusive in game content such as game modes that are only one one platform and not the other

I guess I just had Titanfall on the brain, but now I see the error in my ways and should only care about GPU and multi-platform games.

Good tips... Good propaganda agenda too. Mission complete?

Every multi platform game has special content for each system. Assassins Creed 4 had special content for the PS4. I'm not going to nitpick those.

What other games should I list that are multi platform? Skylanders or Just Dance 2014 perhaps?

How about LEGO games, surely they are worth mentioning.

I find it funny that the PS4 doesn't have a single exclusive that runs at 1080p/60FPS. I also just read that Sony lied about the resolution of Killzone's multiplayer... They claimed it was native 1080p but in reality it's only 960x1080... I don't own consoles, but if I were to buy one of these 'next gen' machines it would definitely be an Xbox One.

Thanks for an informative thread. Now I can show the hardcore pc gaming friends of mine that like to tweak their pc games to get the highest resolution and detail out of their pc which console to get. This makes the choice plain and simple for them. PS4.
Cheers.

I wasn't a fan of Resogun tbh, I would rather play that than Knack though. Knack was just. I don't know. Playing it just pissed me off.

It's a bit more complicated than that, I got a kick out of the explanation of it being similar in nature as having 1920i x 1080p if it was possible.

Interlaced is interlaced. Either way it is only rendering half of its resolution at once. Btw your still missing several games that are 1920x1080 on both consoles

Holy crap. The extremes of this is hilarious. One is a sony fanboy the other clearly an Xbox fanboy.

BTW, just read that on GameStop that the ps4 bundle is beating titanfall bundle in sales. Not sure how that translates throughout north america though.

Such as? If you really want me to throw Just Dance 2014, LEGO games or whatever up there I can do it.

Strider. 1080p on both. I've noticed some odd slowdowns here and there on PS4. The reasons for them are not entirely apparent, but it happens.

Have any new games came out for either system (besides TitanFall) since launch?

You're missing Fifa, Madden, NBA2K14, Need for Speed... All of those run at 1080p/60FPS on both machines. I game on a 780ti so the consoles really don't interest me... It is irritating, however, that no matter what forum you go to there's always one Sony fanboy (usually dozens) trying to justify purchasing his or hers new toy. Instead of just focusing on the resolution of a handful of multiplatform game why not look at the bigger picture? The PS4's controller is uncomfortable, the battery life is a joke, the UI looks very similar to my 2004 Sony DVD player, PSN is still brutally slow, the console sounds like a hair dryer while playing graphically intense games and to be honest, there's not a single exclusive game available for it that looks even halfway decent. Other than the resolution in a few different games, the Xbox One is by far the superior console. I'm just happy that I can game on a PC so I don't have to settle for either one of them.

Yakuza: Ishin is 1080p 60fps. I really hope it comes to the US.

Dynasty warriors is 1080p, no idea about the framerate.

need for speed is only 30fps.. even on pc.

Oops, you're right. I was just saying that it's the same on both machines. Thanks for the correction!

There is a hack to enable 60 fps on the PC version so that's not technically true.

NBA 2k14 definitely isn't 60 fps on xbone, I owned the game on xbone and ps4 and the cutscenes in the tunnel before or after a game are a stuttering mess on the xbone.
Plants vs zombies and dead rising 3 are the main reason I bought the xbone and I love playing them 60 fps or not.

See specs below. I still game on the consoles more than my PC. But the new d3 patch has brought me back.

If you don't own either console you shouldn't be judging and proclaiming which one is better. And no Xbox one is not the far superior console. It does some things right like multi tasking though.

I've spent about 20 hours on each console (maybe closer to 30 on the Xbox One) and I thought the Xbox One was better than the PS4 at everything except for resolution. My brother, who owns the consoles, insists that if he could only keep one it would be the PS4 but I disagree. Sorry if you didn't like my opinion.

The difference being it was honest discussion. Especially in the case of the Wii U. Iwata has already came out on everything we were talking about so there is really nothing left to say there.

Notice that thread has pretty much been dead since then?

thread compares capabilities of current consoles despite 1 costing $100 more, it can BARELY outperform the 1+ year old Wii U and is literally getting dominated by the PS4?

Do you honestly think that the performance gap is going to get smaller? I think not.....

MS tried to pull a Nintendo but they utterly failed..... When you try to do a Nintendo in terms of hardware, you might want to actually investigate WHY Nintendo did what they did....

Of course the performance gap is going to get smaller. The new SDK from Microsoft will allow developers to utilize the eSRAM much more easily than before; which in turn will close the gap significantly. If they are able to double the bandwidth of the memory using the eSRAM (which they will), the performance increase will be very substantial. The PS4 will always be more powerful than the Xbox One due to the 384 extra shaders on the GPU, but to say that the performance gap isn't going to get smaller when no one has had the opportunity to optimize the use of the eSRAM is just stupid. Look at future games like Sniper Elite 3 and Wolfenstein... Both of those have now been confirmed to run at 1080p/60FPS on both consoles.

that isn't going to close the gap.... once the developers learn the PS4, the limitations of the xbone are really going to be exposed...32mb of ESRAM is not going to overcome the multiple Gigabytes of DDR5 that the PS4 has available to it's graphics processor....

Okay, you clearly don't understand how this works so lets just say you're right and that I'm sorry for questioning your knowledge of technology.

^yeah because we all know that eSRAM is super magical and can overcome all in order to give the XBOne the edge despite it's main memory being super slow...compared to the competition... Hello? have you even bothered to look at see what the performance delta is between 2 GPUs where one has DDR3 and the other has GDDR5? and all else being equal? it's on the order of 50-100% depending upon what is being done...

32MB of eSRAM is not, I repeat NOT going to give you any advantage over multiple Gigabytes of DDR5....

The 8MB of eDRAM in the Xbox 360 is what allowed it to keep up with the PS3. The reason Microsoft chose DDR3 over GDDR5 was latency. To make up for the lower bandwidth they added the 32MB of eSRAM to the die as an ultra fast caching system. It takes time to optimize something like that. There is nothing about the PS4 that needs to be better understood... It's pretty much a PC with an APU and really fast memory. Once developers get their hands on the updated SDK and start optimizing for the eSRAM the gap will close. Like I said, the PS4 will always be more powerful than the Xbox One, but the performance differences wont stay this large for very much longer.

^do you not get the point that it's not enough? it is already evident with titles that run at a higher resolution and frame rate on the PS4....

For those questioning the value of the thread: it is useful for those of us who intend to purchase one console or the other. Eurogamer and lensoftruth are other good sources of this information. In my case, I have been leaning towards the PS4 ever since Microsoft announced their used game policy (which was of course later reversed). So this thread is helping to strengthen my future purchasing decision.

Do you not understand that the whole purpose of the eSRAM is to eliminate the DDR3s lower bandwidth?

it does no good to even begin to try and have a rational discussion with either YeuEmMaiMai or next-jin. One will call you a MS cock gobbler repeatedly and the other will just act all smug and passive aggressive with you.

It apparently helps to validate their virtual lives on forums.

Its not that useful when the OP is omitting a significant amount of information, including exclusive in game content, and many many games that are at parity on both consoles. It paints an obvious bias and does not in any way provide 100% truthful information

Threads like this and the ones who start them need some closure and posting vacations... its pretty much flamebait at this point...

Honestly, it's quite sad how no one gives a fuck what goes on in certain sections. This section has become a couple of trolls who fight with each other.

lol, why don't you do us all a favor and read the first post duh, PS4 has better graphics hardware and it clearly shows.... but hey if you feel good about paying $100 more for inferior hardware then by all means... Thankfully the rest of the consumer market has picked up on this fact and chose to go with the platform that not only is cheaper by $100 but delivers better gaming performance...

If you honestly think that 32MB of eSRAM is going to outperform a vastly larger memory GDDR5 pool, I got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.... that DDR3 is a significant weak point in the system...

You mean the XBONE was the best MS could do? really? Didn't they see that Nintendo beat them out with the same tech over a year ago? BTW last week the XBONE global sales were 12.26K more than the Wii U, now what does THAT tell you?

It would be a problem if folks only read the first post and ignored the rest. Fortunately, most of us are smart enough to read the responses that flesh out bias on either side. I for one am grateful for those who add the type of details you are supplying.

Unfortunately the console section ever since the on coming months of next gen console releases has really turned into a pretty petty place.

Heated discussions have given way to trolling in far to many of them. The Wii-U thread is a prime example of this.
