Just ordered my Dell UHD 24 Monitor UP2414Q

derkspector, did'nt you say that 1080p was washed out ? what did change ? Sorry i'm not sure about what exacly need to be done to toggle between 1080p and 4k without getting a blurry screen...

Thanks

Yeah it was the first time I tried it. I think maybe I still had the fonts way up at %200....

whatever it was, it's fine now.

Thanks, did you try gaming in 1080p ? is it any good ??? And how do you switch resolution ? simply right click on desktop and remove windows scaling ?

Can someone explain to me how to get 1080p working right? When I disable scaling on AMD catalyst, I can select 1920x1080 via the screen resolution change on Windows 8.1, but there is still a black border around the screen. This is on HDMI. Thanks!

I got my shipping confirmation today, and it says estimated delivery tomorrow. That is quite unexpected since it told me I wouldn't have it until March.

Sorry man...the only game I have installed on the 4K comp is ESO beta, and I played that at 4k/60hz. (awesome btw)

I have all my games on my 25X16 gaming comp.

two ways....one, use your HDMI to connect, the second and easier way is just change the monitor mode under the OSD to DP 1.1....which will show disabled on this monitor when it is at 1.1. That puts it back to SST mode.

Pulled the trigger, along with i1Display Pro which enables hardware calibration, and hooking up my recently arrived MSI GTX 760.

I saw the 32" version, spent half an hour looking at my photographs on it, jaw dropped. Way too big for a monitor for my workspace, and ppi will be even higher with the 24".

Thanks for all the input in this thread, especially the re-assurances that 1080p works when needed (games) and looks great.

This screen is amazing, but I've already sent it back to Dell because of frustrations with Windows 8.1 scaling. Firefox doesn't scale Flash at all. IE scales Flash but is a horrible experience to use IE. It won't remember my windows size when I close the window, and it scales content in the window if you make the window anything smaller than max height of the screen. So, you can't have multiple windows open at different sizes. Chrome doesn't scale at all.

Games looked great at 2160p, but none of the interfaces in the games I play scale, so all of the options are really tiny. At 1080p, games look ok, but they don't look as sharp as my native 1080p display. I only play older games and MMOs, and my 660 Ti actually handles them fine at 2160p. It's just the tiny UI that is annoying. Guild Wars 2 was between 25 and 40 fps at 2160p with all options on high.

The display's scaler sucks. I hooked up my Roku to HDMI and it was very blurry and washed out as if the gamma was wrong. Any time the display does the scaling the image is washed out. Even with DisplayPort. I couldn't figure out why that was. If I let the GPU do the scaling it isn't washed out -- it just isn't as sharp as a native 1080p display.

It is a beautiful display, and 4k is the future, but I'm going to wait a bit and see what Apple comes out with. Maybe they'll have some 4K iMacs this year.

I hear ya....Like i said in a earlier post. A year from now when the hardware catches up to the panel I'm going to figure out a way to move this panel over to a DP 1.3 and HDMI 2 one....maybe g-sync too...to dream.

Like the glossy is perfect on it....

Frustrations with Win 8.1 scaling? Everything with Win 8.1 works perfect for me. It's individual programs that have scaling issues, not Win 8.1.

Well, I'm out then due to the poor scaler. I'm sure that 4K will be a very popular resolution in the years to come and it will come with better scalers and in many sizes, hopefully the ones I'm most interested in - 26", 27" or 35".

My experience with this monitor (once I received a defect free unit) has been spectacular. Looking into the scaler and washing out issues, I've come to find that my unit does not exhibit any of these characteristics. To test, I've plugged in my wd tv live via hdmi and gave it a go. What I found was that not only did it perform like I would've expected, but there is no sign of washing out of colors or a softer appearance. I've included a few snaps of what it's looking like and short video of it in action.

Have a look and see if you still think this thing has a poor scaler. Now, it could be that my wd tv live is more compatible with this monitor than the roku that I read about earlier, but again, in my testing everything seems normal.

Agreed. The scaling for windows 8.1 is fine. I do 125% because I sit pretty close. I wonder if a 32" version would allow me to not have to use scaling?

Mine arrived on Friday, been playing around with it a bit during the weekend.

150% scaling in Linux Mint 16 and Win7 (max) is ok. It would be too small on a monitor with lower ppi, but the ridiculous ppi makes text much easier to read.

MST support is spotty. Current nVidia drivers don't support 60Hz in Linux Mint even with DP 1.2 enabled. Sometimes I get a blank screen with MST on even at boot (BIOS/UEFI and OS). Powercycling often helps.

When DP 1.2 is enabled and I start my projector attached via HDMI, both screens go blank with no way to recover. I therefore run with SST at full res and 30Hz, except when doing dedicated PS work in Win7.

The monitor is amazingly sharp, and colors are stunning even though I don't have my i1Display yet. It is way too bright at 50%, which is typical for monitors. I have it set to 25%; I didn't notice any color shifts although didn't do any rigorous testing.

The monitor came with factory calibration results, which show Delta-Es of around 1, which is insanely good (2 or lower is considered imperceptible deviation), which promises great things when doing calibration. The monitor does hardware calibration with i1Display, and came with its own calibration software.

Haven't tried 1080p, doubt I'll be using it much.

I'll post some pics of Photoshop and Lightroom CC, and GIMP when I get around to testing them hopefully this coming week. LR looked great in a quick test, the UI scaled well.

Here quick screens I grabbed in Windows 7 with Lightroom and Photoshop CC, and GIMP in Linux Mint 16.

Lightroom is perfect with 4K. I have both Win7 and Mint set at 150% font size. Both GIMP and PS honor this in menus and popups, but icons are tinytiny, and using the software for any length will probably be quite frustrating.

I honestly think 24" is a bit too small for 4k. I'm not sure I would go lower than 28", because on my 31" I have Windows set to 150% scaling and sometimes some menus and fonts are too tiny. 200% is waay to massive though. I just can't imagine this on a 24".

I use 150% in both Win7 and Mint - Win7 maxes out at 150%. I tried 200% in Mint, and it was too big, so I elected for 150% there as well.

I believe I used 125% with my previous 20.5" monitor, so YMMV. But the fact that the screen is 4k and very sharp means text is much crisper and easier to read than a similarly sized monitor at lower ppi.

no sRGB preset

This is incorrect, there is an sRGB preset: OSD Menu/Color Settings/Preset Modes/Color Space/sRGB.

You can even set half of the screen in sRGB and other in ARGB for testing purposes by turning on Zonal Color Space under Color Settings.

I'm looking forward to the Lenovo 28" displays - I've held off purchasing the Dell 24" because of them and the issue of insufficient Displayport adapters.

Whats the difference between the Lenovo, Asus & Samsung 28" 4k TN panels? I was pretty much gonna throw my money at the first one to be released out of that bunch....is there something extra special about the lenovo?

The Lenovo has a better stand than the samsung (has pivot), ut so does the asus. The asus is the only one I found to be confirmed 60hz, but I heard rumors of the lenovo also being 60hz.

I have heard asus say its gonna be native 4k 60hz....does that mean no MST with possible hdmi2 or a better tcon for displayport 1.2 or is it hype clandestine marketing for MST?

I have read that both the lenovo and samsung will do 4k 60hz and i agree that the samsung stand blows. Arent all three using basically the same panel?

Dell can get whatever they want. If Dell wanted a 30" panel instead of a 23.5" it would have been made.

I'm sure Dell could work out a custom panel order if they really wanted to, but it doesn't make any sense to do such a thing for a super low volume product like this, and such a custom panel order would also increase the cost of the monitor significantly on top of the already existing premium for 4K.

So, sure, in theory Dell can do this, so can any high volume producer, but it doesn't make any actual sense for them to do that AT ALL instead of using readily available panels...

I dont get this whole readily available panel thing you keep saying....the 32" IGZO yes they use the same panel as sharp and Asus...but the 24" 4k NO, nobody else but DELL has that 24" panel, so WTF are you talking about? They should have went with a 30" IPS instead of the 24"

Dells 30" 1600P IPS panels were CASHCOWS for over TEN years, so what would have made real sense would be to continue that with an affordable 30" 4k IPS for under $1,500. Instead they got greedy/stupid and released an overpriced IGZO 32" and an overly small 24" IPS which are both not selling well as evidenced by their MASSIVE price drops in the last couple of months.

It's most likely Internal MST with 2 TCONs, but we could get a nice surprise and get a new TCON in there where we don't need two. Dual-Scalers just complicates things.

Dual-Scalers just complicates things.

Not really. The original 1600p monitors were electrically twin panels. It's just because they were hard-wired that there was no immediate problem - video cards could tell which panel was which. With 4K monitors, the video card sees two distinct displays but cannot directly tell that they're linked or which way round they are.

How does the clarity of text on this monitor, compare to a Korean 27" Glossy's text clarity?

I'm thinking about getting this monitor, because I do a lot of reading. Thanks!

Thinking about picking up one of these monitors this week, pretty much purely for gaming. I am using AMD cards, can I play 1080P games at full screen on it? Obviously I will try to play everything at 4k, but not all games will support that I'm sure, especially indie games. So will 1080P be full screen? I've read yes and no.

From what I read in this thread, you can if you disable SST(MST?) in the monitor's options. But, that setting is required to get 60Hz @ 4K, so it's going to be an annoyance.

So there's no easy way to go from 4k 60hz to 1080P 60hz? Damn. That's almost enough to stop me from buying it. Is there any way to run 1080P games fullscreen easily?
