NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Tranquil doesn't design most of their cases. Many designs of their designs use a Streacom case.
http://www.streacom.com/products/

Thanks! Pretty nice cases, as well.. but the Streacom NUC chassis looks quite different than the Tranquil one (which came out earlier).. they both have their own designers and machinery. Actually, Tranquil's OEM service could take a future design of Necere's and produce it in-house, if need be.

Either way, it doesn't really matter.. I just think it would be sweet to have a few micro M1 NUCs attached to my TVs :)

Not very happy about not being able to pick up this case for the second time in a row. :( And especially since this one person is selling two cases at an outrageous price on ebay!

Wow, I could sell my extra case and get more than what I paid for two of them and have some extra jingle in my pocket. Capitalism sure is great. :D

If you do go about doing a second run, please consider some replacement parts or atleast the right links to them. I'm thinking about the plastic clips, the case feet, set of screws, stuff like that.

Panel spares including side and front panels would be great as well if at all possible.

I managed to miss every opportunity to order one of these, so if a second run is being considered count me in.

Does anyone have a noctua c12 installed with the fans on the side bracket? how are the temps that way?

if yes/no can someoen talk about their configs that led to whatever temps you were getting?

Super disappointed that you guys sold out, what seemed like my last chance to get my hands on one slipped away. I am more than willing to participate in the next campaign. I only recently got into Mini-ITX Building then I stumbled upon this beautiful case. I couldn't stop looking at it. It truly is a magnificent piece you guys have come up with. When I heard it was being made by Lian Li, that was it I had to have one. Been a huge fan of Lian Li's spectacular build quality, and I have owned the PC-P50 Armorsuit for years now. None of their M-ITX cases really stood out to me.

So please do another campaign!

I can't wait to show off the M1 to my buddies!

PS: I am new to the forum, where is the best place to receive updates on the M1?

Their ixLS case is resell of the Streacom's FC8 case. Streacom does a lot of OEM sales. I had a bad experience with Tranquil so I personally wouldn't do business with them again.

I can just picture the look on my roommates' face when I tell him the Apt will be storage...lol

I need to talk to Lian Li first, the issue is MOQ and minimum $ order for Lian Li.

Another vote for panel packs if a new run is done!

I'd probably buy 2 whole sets of panels and try painting one set so I still would have a black or silver set to fall back on.

I'm running one with fans on the bracket.

When I first tested it I was running the stock fan on the bracket like so:
10-FullUp_zps680b5c0e.jpg

Currently running a Cooljag Everflow 120mm x 32mm PWM Fan in the rear spot with a slim 120mm to 140mm adapter on it. Its sits almost flush with the surface of the fins. In the front I have a Corsair SP120 High Performance w/ the 7v adapter on it. Both run as intakes. I also cobbled together a custom filter using foam radiator sealing strips, 3mm filter material and, of all things, a hacked up gutter screen. Works pretty good though the side panel is slightly bowed.

Goal and observations:
My main goal was to have the rig be quiet at idle and then ramp up as needed during gaming. First tried a H100i but the pump was dead out of the box so I went back to the tried and true heatsink. The H100i replacement is here but currently collecting dust in the corner and will not be going back in.

Stock fan:
Was not silent but quiet enough in all use cases. Under Prime95 Small FFTs the hottest core peaked between 80-81C.

Current fans:
Just as quiet outside of gaming as the stock fan. The Cooljag is set in the BIOS to ramp up sharply as it approaches 80C and is thus quite loud under load but still quieter than my ref R9 290. Under Prime95 Small FFTs the hottest core peaks around 73C.

I currently have the c12 oriented with the heat pipe bends at the rear of the case. However, I think that with the VLP ram I'm using I could possibly rotate the sink 180 degrees so that they are toward the front. This would put more of the fins under the rear fan and may further increase cooling of the CPU. I haven't tried because the system is together, it works, and I'm lazy. I also don't know if the fan adapter is helping or hurting airflow, I may pull it off one of these days.

Welcome to [H] EXPNorm! Updates are always posted in this thread, at Indiegogo (here) (which you can also sign-up for email updates), and occasionally at NCASES.com

I highly recommend just living here so you're on the cutting edge of M1 news, and so you don't miss out if they decide to do another run! ;)

I have a C12 installed on a stock 4770k with a Noctua F12 on the side bracket (also have F12s on the bottom running slow, all fans filtered, and no GPU yet, so not really sure if they're helping temps much or just providing a little positive pressure).. idle is 32-40C, normal usage is 40-50C, and it stays just under 80C while running the AIDA64 stress test. I'm happy with that.. for now :D

^^ Welcome! And actually, I'm not getting any positive pressure right now.. keep forgetting I still haven't put my panels back on yet (still enjoying the interior view). I should probably get around to that, and re-check my temps.

Anyway, another member wanted to see pics of my build, so I just figured I'd toss a couple up here if anyone's interested..

Think I left enough room for a GPU (probably a mini), another 3.5" drive, and another 2.5" SSD.

Hey Phuncz, you think I should try and squeeze another fan in there instead? :D

Damnit, I was thinking about that rear fan, how it can't possibly be of any use :p
But you already expected me to whine about it :D

BTW: I finally decided to go watercooling: H220, extra tubing and coolant, EK R290 full-cover block and a couple of fittings.
Let's see if we can tame the beast that is the reference R290-series cooler.

I'm thinking of re-using some parts from my existing mATX build:

psu_modxstream_pro_display.jpg

That PSU is 165.1 mm (6.5"). I know, it's an OCZ, and it's bad, blah blah blah, but I'm working with what I got here and it's served me well for three years :p

zt-60901-10m_image2.jpg

I plan on using a Zotac GTX 660 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500270) and it is 191.26 mm (7.53").

Looks like both these components will fit just fine in the NCase?

So many people using the H220 and so many people having problems with them,

You beat me to it. I think its the AIO with more problems, or at least the one with worse "image".

Many people seems to need to RMA because the pump fails. And as if it were easy to assemble an M1... imagine assemble, disassemble, and assemble again!

Yer that's the main problem with them is there pumps they seem to die or are faulty out of the box, Last i heard swiftech was out spare pumps to, The pump in the ADII seems to be a better unit but i still recommend staying away from swiftech all together.
Yer i does suck disassemble the loop I've done it once and it was a pain.

Does anyone know what the state of FrozenQ is atm?
And the availability of their M1 res?

There still being made but last i know theres a few months wait on them after you order.

As far as i know in europe is the new version of the H220 with a new pump/construction, where swiftech fixed all the pump "bugs". Thats what swiftech support told us germans in a forum ;)

edit: they also wrote, if you rma your old version if there are any problems you will get the new one instead..

Still swiftech is ar the bottom of watercooling products there build quality is poor i sent my swiftech rad back because of this reason.

Yeah, I woke up and rushed to the website. Then realized. EST vs PST....curses, lol!!!!!

Better luck next time ;)

So many people using the H220 and so many people having problems with them,
Then I hope I won't be so unlucky, there aren't many options when you want an integrated pump that can be expanded without serious modding. Considering the Apogee Drive II costs more than the H220, or using a seperate pump and reservoir for that matter, I'm willing to take the chance.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll employ some kind of monitoring.

You're telling me. What a major pain in the rear. I've done it so much since I got the case, that I am almost done with it altogether. When I get back from vacation, I'll take one more stab at it before I junk the H220 and go with something else.

You can always try to Glacer 240L. Even though it supposed to be identical they might have ironed out the pump issues.

For those of us who bought the case at 10 AM Saturday, when will they be shipping? I'm located in Texas

I just got a wave of emails about how short the sale was, some ppl were pissed.

I'm going to talk with Necere and Lian Li tomorrow tonight, I think it just make sense to another campaign.

Have you considered adding a mailing list or a RSS feed to ncases.com for announcements & updates? Your target audience seems to largely consist of people who are willing to wait, as long as they're informed and – more importantly – reminded in a timely manner. A first-party option would go a long way towards serving that particular need. Hell, a twitter feed would do in a pinch.

How about sending cases to review sites before you start another campaign. I'm sure you'd get loads of requests after that and it'd be interesting what reviewers thought about it. May as well maximise publicity and try to completely fill Wahaha's flat with M1 boxes :D

After some delay I finished my build and am very happy with it. Some pics during the build:

Have you heard any clicking noises coming from the noiseblocker in the psu? I am getting the PSU and am wondering if the fan mod is worth it. In the PSU mod thread I thought I remembered a few guys mention the ticking noise and if that counteracts the noise reduction of the swap it seems kind of pointless to go through with it.

I'm probably scrapping the AIO route and getting a pump/res combo to use externally.

Yeah, I dont really have too many good things to say about Swiftech and the H220 right now. I've had a dead pump for 2 weeks, and sent my original email asking for a RMA on Feb 2nd. I even had to follow up multiple times to get a response sometimes.

Last they told me they were waiting on parts which would be in stock within the next day or 2, would test a unit, and ship one out. That was 13 days ago. I just sent ANOTHER email asking for an update.

Hate to throw them under the bus but it's really been quite the poor experience vs what Ive read. If FrozenQ could get their act together I might look at that route, but I really did want everything internal if possible. We'll see what this replacement H220 acts like (if it ever gets here)

EDIT: Just heard from Swiftech, still waiting on pumps. At least it should be a revision that works and holds up

Be careful with FrozenQ as well. My res shipped with a scratched face plate and missing 2 of the brass mounting inserts to attach it. Emailed 3 times before I got a response. He said he would ship the replacement face plate and missing mounts 3 weeks ago. I guess I will email them again.

Yeah, hence another reason I'm worried. Not just the quality but getting the thing in the first place. Seems kind of expensive for a small res but I understand the small demand

I did the mod and it's great. No clicking or anything like that

Have you considered hiring a fulfillment company in Taiwan so you won't have to deal with the physical boxes anymore? I have a feeling people will be more than happy to pay a little more for that.
