Best 24" 16:10 IPS/PLS Monitors for Gaming?

Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase a new monitor in the next week and I've settled on going with a 24" 16:10 monitor. I'm currently using an old Viewsonic 22" 120hz (which I'm running @ 60hz so I don't get used to 120) as I recently sold my Asus PB278Q and needed something to get me by in the meantime.

I'm willing to spend upwards of $500 if I have to but feel more comfortable in the $3-400 range. Please no 1440p recommendations as I've been down that road and prefer 1200p. I bought a u2412m at launch and still consider that my favorite monitor of all time. I got rid of it due to it giving me headaches, didn't realize it was from pwm at the time but now I do.

So I'd love a newer flicker free monitor that is great for gaming. I've looked into the u2413, but I see it's wide gamut and I imagine that's not going to be great for standard gamut viewing. This Asus intrigues me http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236331 , mostly because of the price but I'm worried abut the quality (and I'd have to buy a vesa stand anyway).

The new HP Z24i looks interesting but I've seen almost no reviews on it. If anyone has used the Asus or has any other recommendations that would be great. Motion performance is the biggest need for me, followed by price.

Not crazy just not fond of the resolution.

A) I'm not into keeping up with the Jones' anymore and the hardware requirement of maintaining that res is out of my league

B) I have terrible vision and windows doesnt handle high dpi displays all that well. 1080p/1200p are much easier on my eyes.
 
I'm curious to know this as well. My desk is small and really can't accommodate anything larger than a 24" monitor.
 
I'm also in the market for a 16:10 24" IPS monitor for gaming. The three I've been considering are the ASUS PA248Q, ASUS VS24AH-P, and the Dell U2412M. The BenQ isn't really even on my consideration list as the only place to get it in the US is from NCIX and they no longer have their dead/stuck pixel policy available.

Same here, its a lot easier to read/work on a 1200P than 1440P. Less fiddles too.
Ive just purchased NEC PA242W (above your price range).. the display itself is 9/10. the colors are great, blacks are alright, ips glow is not too bad either. in fact im more than happy with it..
Have you looked at the NEC EA244wmi? Could be just what you are looking for..

Both the PA248Q and U2412 use grainier matte coatings compared to the VS24AH and use low LED PWM Dimming Frequencies (Side Effects) while the VS24AH is supposed to use a12.9khz frequency which won't cause any issues. Currently only =DEAD= has reviewed the VS24AH.

Both PRAD & Anandtech's reviews indicate that the PA242W has poor black levels (800:1 contrast which drops when Color Compensation is turned on) and wide gamut monitors glow more vs. standard gamut monitors.

The NEC EA244WMi has a low, 280hz LED PWM Dimming Frequency and suffers from coating cross-hatching. The HP Z24i doesn't use PWM and uses a semi-glossy coating but can suffer from coating cross-hatching (most semi-glossy AH-IPS do).

What about an Apple Cinema Display 23"?

I know it's not 24", but it's 1200p, IPS, and all around great monitor.

I got one for a steal off CL a while ago, and I don't regret the purchase at all.

Thanks NCX! So do you think the Asus is a safe bet then? I'll be buying a vesa stand which sort of nullifies the price savings, but it should still end up $50-60 cheaper than the Benq.
 
Anyone have the dimensions for the VS24AH-P stand?

I also heard there is no custom color adjustment feature on the monitor, is that true?

I brought the BL2411PT today.

The only problem for me is, the stand can't go as low as the Dell flex stand go.

sigh...
 
Well the monitor finally arrived (1 day late newegg....) anyway it.... is... PHENOMENAL. From the second I turned it on I knew I had made the right choice. First impressions are that it at least matches my old dell in motion performance, while the AG coating is loads better.

For the price this is amazing.
 
Yeah I saw it in a store for the first time the other day and was impressed. I just wish they made a version for gamers (higher hz, etc). IQ-wise it makes all those 120hz 1080p monitors look like shit.
