Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

Check page 334 in this thread.

They are the possible freelancer variants (unconfirmed by CIG) the models where found in the game files of the last patch.

I cant believe that I missed that whole page of the thread. :(

My guess is we will see them in a month or so. Honestly the amount of Cargo space in the MAX is what I was expecting with the regular freelancer. However now I have both a Merchantman and a Starfarer, so I'm not sure what kind of upgrade I'll be looking at getting for my Freelancer.

Hi skuripanda,

I believe the stats for the site are a little out of date - the Idris is indeed 240m long now. As I mentioned earlier, we are in development and sometimes things have to change so that you guys get the best experience possible. I'm sure that anyone who has bought an Idris will be very pleased to know that they are getting exceptional value for money :)

Thanks for your question and cool name!

Mike

The best part is that you can now fit a Cutlass :D (pre-growth spur Rob had previously told me it would not fit).

Hi Net,

The original reason was to make the hangar a bit bigger but that only allowed me to add more interesting spaces for the player to use. You will have a MedBay, Mess Hall and *gasp* your very own Mission Ops room! As for other ships sure you can fill this baby up with M50's (the Aurora fits very nicely too) - I even dropped a Cutlass in there as a giggle the other day and, although tight, I reckons a skilled pilot could land one in the hangar ;)

Best get your skills honed in the dogfighting module ;)

See you in the verse!

Mike

And one last clarification for good measure. [strike=]Now what I want to know is how close is my M to the true Milspec Idris in SQ42[/s]. Actually nevermind, I just looked it up, the M IS the full milspec version.

OK folks,

I don't want to go too far off topic here - this is the SQ42 design thread after all. Essentially I have been working on the military Idris i.e. the one used in the SQ42 single player campaign. DISCLAIMER: The PU Idris' deck layout *may* change when the good folk over in the US take our version of the Idris and make it ready for the PU. Any questions regarding the PU Idris should be posted on the appropriate thread.

That said the MilSpec Idris does have captain and EXO quarters.

It also can comfortably hold three Hornets :)

There is some new info about "Information Running" in 10 for the Chairman.

Yeah, that was pretty interesting. As he described the role of the ship all I could think was "perfect bait ship". There is far less risk using one as such as opposed to an actual cargo ship carrying stuff 'cause you can simply encrypt a bunch of bullshit messages/info and the would be attacker(s) would have no idea of the contents unless he/they actually took them. That guarantees he/they become the aggressors and we have a green light to take them out and their stuff.

@240m long now officially, I'd think it would be able to hold more than three hornets. :confused:

Except the idris isnt a carrier

So what?

The ship is much bigger...therefore the cargo bay is bigger....so what does it matter if you call it a "carrier" or not? It should still be able to hold more fighters.

I never knew they didn't have some sort of FTL communications, I just assumed they did. I assume the Information drones can also be disrupted or destroyed, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Like it was mentioned, the extra space went to more liveable space for the crew and officers which I actually prefer. Don't forget there is going to be a Support Carrier added to the game as well.

Also a small announcement, the org just signed up its 40th member. Gratz!

That said , there are still quite a few people from the Steam group that haven't signed up so if you know anyone who hasn't remind them to do so. Thanks!

Just applied! Haven't really kept up with the game since the LTI spending spree ended lol. I feel it's better for my sanity if I don't visit this thread :)

Looking pretty sharp!

My allegiance lies elsewhere, unfortunately. Found a good group from the ashes of what was Blue Horizon. :cool:

I think that was me ! :)

mm Got a question about game play would it be better to play this with just keyboard & mouse or get a controller or a joystick? I have been a keyboard & mouse man since I first started playing PC games but have never really played a space sim to much but I have played a little bit (no more than 1 or 2 hours) of X and I found controlling the space ship with keyboard & mouse..... very odd is the best way to describe it

You should probably pick up a free space sim like Diaspora or any of the other free Freespace 2 mods to get a feel for the controls. The game will support all known control schemes: kb&m, joystick, gamepad, etc.

I'm also gonna post a quick guide so people can check out the hidden space platform level in the hangar module which has several flyable ships.

Quick guide to access the hidden space platform level along with all current flyable ships in the Hangar module

1. Navigate to \StarCitizen\CitizenClient\Data\ and rename the "Levels" folder to anything you want.

2. Download this: http://www43.zippyshare.com/v/63608866/file.html the zip contains a "Levels" folder. Extract this folder and drop it in \StarCitizen\CitizenClient\Data\

3. Open this pastebin http://pastebin.com/KRwHkQSV and click the little "copy text to clipboard" button.

4. Navigate to Levels\HangarApp\level.pak and open the .pak with 7-zip. Make sure it's 7-zip, using winrar, winzip or any other compression/archiving app will alter the .pak file and the game will not recognize it.

5. Find the file named mission_mission0.xml and right click, then select edit. Select all and delete the entire contents, then replace it with the pastebin stuff with ctrl+v and save. When 7-zip asks you if you wan to save/update the changes into the archive, click yes.

6. Finally download this: http://www74.zippyshare.com/v/78217372/file.html the zip contains an "Objects" folder, extract it and drop it in \StarCitizen\CitizenClient\Data\

7. Run the Hangar module as you normally do, it should now load a huge platform in the middle of a space level with all of the available ships. The only truly flyable ships are all the Hornet variants, all the 300 series variants and the Auroras. Some ships will have functioning retractable landing gear and weapons, others won't (I can't be arsed to list them in detail :p). The buggy is also there to play around with.

Default keybinds are:
+ = Accelerate
- = Decelerate
W = Pitch up
S = Pitch down
A = Yaw left
D = Yaw right
Q = Roll left
E = Roll right
Mouse movement controls looking around inside the cockpit while in first person view and controls the camera while in 3rd person (remember to hold K otherwise the camera is locked).
Mousewheel zooms the camera in and out
Left Mouse = Fire
Right mouse = Brings up secondary HUD elements (radar, map, etc) in some ships like the Super Hornet.
F1 = Change view.

If you did it right you should have something like this waiting for you (all images resized from 1920x1200):

How many ships will star citizen support at one time in a given space?

Is it unlimited in theory like an eve?

Won't be unlimited.

This is something that will be determined with the dogfighting alpha but anywhere from 50-100 players per instance has been banded around.

I know this is off-topic, but I hope you got rid of all of your bitcoins from MtGox, Lorien.

All I left in there was $.59 cents and 0.0000066 something coins. I moved everything to Coinbase and liquidated it directly to my bank account two and a half weeks ago or so. I remember the price was around $780 there and it dropped to $700 and then recovered to ~$726 which is when I got out. Made ~$1700 and change which fully paid for my pair of 290X's

Back on topic, a dev chimed in about the size of the Javelin. It's 100m longer than the Idris, so 340m, which is around what other people had estimated using the Gladiator bomber as reference from one of the WIP screenshots.

https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/post/quote/95615/Comment_2013173
Hi Alex,

Just to jump in here - I've been working on the Javelin interior blockout and currently it is roughly 100m longer than the Idris. However, as with the Idris this is for the SQ42 military version and is still only a WIP - the length could well change again during development.

Cheers,
Jon.

They said LTI Badges to Aurora owners, does that mean if you own an Aurora you might not even have to melt yours down to get an LTI Mustang, then I might jump in this.

49/51 currently, seriously divided on this with a lot of people believing that if it goes on sale this weekend it won't go up again. Most of the limited stuff went back up during the first year anniversary, so who knows this year during some cons or even the 2 year.

Limited ships aren't really limited because they know that people will rush to buy them when they are put back up. For all the "innovation" in SC the greed constant never changes. They didn't have the balls to create truly limited ships that are truly only sold during one period of time and that's it. CIG appeased the whining masses before so that "more players could enjoy the LTI/ships/etc." when in reality it was all about adding a few more million to the balance sheet.

The way to take advantage of the not-really-limited ships is to buy them when they are on sale and then put them on eBay in between sales. Right now you can almost double your money on many LTI packages if you sell them off.

I would like to see it in game as well as the overall specs before trading my Aurora for it. But if it is similar then I probably will.

54% No on the Mustang vote, I voted No. I would rather see more finalized info before making any jumps.

I am still looking for someone wanting to get rid of a Aurora - LTI package.... anyone?
