So I'm looking for a cleaner SATA solution for my home datacenter. Right now I'm using an HP P812 in a DL380 G6 connected to one of those frankenstein SE3016 Omnistor SAS enclosures. Well, for obvious reasons the HP controller hates it, and quite honestly I'm tired of it anyway and looking for a change.
I'm absolutely open to ideas here, but not interested in ZFS at this moment. I'd prefer HP, mainly because of my P812, but open to options as well. I've been looking at the HP P180 G6 with 12 bays, but I've heard some serious horror stories about fan noise, so afraid to pull the trigger on that one.
I've also looked into the HP D2600 DAS enclosure, but they are pretty expensive for 12 bays when I could just get a whole server instead.
My requirements are 3Gb/s SATA, minimum 12 bays, some sort of RAID controller with 1GB cache minimum.
Anyone have any great 12 disk rackmount options that aren't insanely expensive? (under 1000)
