Ive been looking around for a new video card on a low budget. I havent purchased a card in a while. Whats better GTX 650TI or 260X.

Looks like you can get both in a 2GB version for less than $150, but there are a lot of complaints about ATI's drivers.

The 260 has more processors and faster memory, so i would assume it should be faster.

I'm not a fan of AMD's software or drivers at all (many issues in the past), but their sub 150$ offerings are higher performing for the price than what nvidia has easily. You can get the 260X in that price range which should do fine.

The GTX 750 and 750ti are being released soon (18th?) which should be good for that price range - but if you're buying today, AMD has better price/performance for the sub 150$ price range. As of right now nvidia has the GTX 650 and 650ti which cost more than they should. I don't think NV will have proper answers for that price bracket until the 750 variants are released.

The 750 and 750 Ti will both be hampered by the 128 bit bus.

Find a 650 Ti boost. The regular 650 Ti has the same 128 bit, but the boost is 192 bit and nearly 660 performance.

The 260x is a crap card. You may find a 7850 is that price range though, those are good.

Yeah, I was going to mention the 650ti with boost which would be the best, but it is impossible to find. I don't know if nvidia discontinued it or what, but I can't find it anywhere.

Hmm you're right. That's very weird, I've owned one and it was just about every bit as strong as a 660. Fantastic card. Maybe it was hurting 660 sales and they cut it, but it certainly was amazing bang for the buck.

I would still shoot for finding a 7850 then. They are quite a bit stronger than a 260x, the problem is finding them in stock because of the miners scooping them up since they are great for mining.

OP- You cannot compared AMD vs Nvidia's number of stream processors, they are not directly related at all. With that said, the 260x is still marginally better than a 650 Ti (about 5%). However a 7850 is 20% stronger than a 260x, and if somehow you can find a 650 Ti boost (even a used one or something) that is 25% stronger than a 260x.

is there a difference between the R7 260x and the 260X?

Either way I think i will wait the 2 weeks and see what the 750 ti ends up being, as far as price goes.

The 260x is an R7, that's the line it's in.

I would really hold out for a 7850 and try and find one. They come up for $150 every now and again, very worth it over a 260x.

The 750 Ti still has the 128 bit bus, that really kills it. Though it will probably be stronger than a 260x for sure.

uhh, where?

Edit- I see you mean the powercolor on newegg, which is $180 up front but a $30 MIR making it $150.

Well, if the OP can swing the $180 initial cost, that's definitely some massive bang for the buck right there. A 7870 demolishes everything else listed here.

Yes I've seen some for $150, but why bother? A 7870 is the same strength, runs a lot cooler and uses a lot less power.

R7 265 all the way. It is the undisputed price/performance leader.

It won't be on sale until early March according to PCPer. And I highly doubt the MSRP will stick at that. That said, if an outright miracle happens and MSRP happens, it definitely is the price/performance leader at 150$.

If the price gets spiked to 180-190$, which is very likely, then the GTX 660 / 7870 / 270X (provided the 270X is 200$..which it isn't) is an overall better buy. But, again, if MSRP happens it is the undisputed price/performance leader. There are just strong doubts about MSRP actually happening in NA/Canada.

Used GTX-660 in the FS forum. Can't beat that.

with the release of the 750ti 2gb version I would suggest that card, or the 265 which will release soon
