Titanfall - Respawn Entertainment's first game

...whats the difference?

My guess is that the only difference will be that TDM is time-based, and the team with the best score at the end wins. Attrition is more like, you build score until a certain goal (250 points or something?) and then whoever hits that point first, wins.

So basically, nothing really other than TDM potentially being longer.

Variety Mode seems broken in the beta as it constantly takes me to 'Last Titan Standing' mode every time...speaking of which, LTS is the least fun mode

I like hardpoint but getting stuck with the same people over and over again can really suck. I hope they have some sort of scramble mode like in TF2.

As a former Battlefield series player who never played COD online, I like the game. No PTW crap, which is why BF3 was the end of that series for me. It's pretty fun and the maps are relatively large compared to some other games. I do feel there could be some better modes, and maybe a little more depth of play, but for all we know that could be coming. Gonna play the beta and wait for the full release before I decide if I pick it up.

For me, there aren't any other games multiplayer combat games on the market. Will never pay for a COD game, and the Battlefield series is dead to me. Not a fan of TF2 or games like that. Tried Loadout, hated it. So hopefully Titanfall at least stays as good as it is now, and hopefully gets a lot better. So sick of playing DOTA 2....

The first 6 minutes of this video told me more about Titanfall, than everything else I have read and seen on the game, combined.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8y0Z4F2frI

the guy makes a good point about the game being very friendly to new players...the BF series requires a big learning curve as do other similar types of games...with Titanfall you can dominate right from the start...don't know if that's a good or bad thing but it'll help make the game extremely popular

that Smart Gun is a little too noob friendly though with it's multiple auto lock-ons

BF3 was Pay To Win? How so? That's news to me. Unless that's a misworded gripe about DLC's, in which case you do realize there will be $15 DLC's every 3 months for Titanfall, yes?

Respawn hasn't talked about their DLC plans for Titanfall actually. They did say something about wanting to do more than just map packs though, so whatever that means.

Doesn't change what I said, nor did I claim they had talked about their plans. But doesn't require brain surgery to read between the lines. Published by EA. There will be DLC every 3 months.

RPS: How will you treat it as a whole, though? Are you looking at Titanfall as a platform, a game you can evolve for years to come? Or are you going to do a DLC “cycle” and then put it out to pasture?

Fukuda: I think the notion of a traditional DLC cycle is kind of a knee-jerk thing. It’s a thing publishers insist upon. They want it at a certain time. There’s a pattern to it. Personally speaking, I’m not too thrilled about how rote it is. I’d definitely like to do some new things with respect to Titanfall. I’m not sure how soon we can break out of that pattern, but our intent is to do something different. Perhaps not right away, but eventually.

even with its small flaws I can't stop playing the beta...very addictive and fun...I guess you can't ask for more then that...the sheer coolness of a large scale mech battle with pilots on the ground covering fire with Titan-killer weapons is a sight to behold...I see huge sales especially since there is no other major competition coming out in March-May...Dark Souls 2 may have a different demo plus it's never had CoD type of sales and GTA5 PC has already been out for awhile on consoles

I had a big response written up then I remembered something important: BF3's season pass. Did EA announce that after the game's release?

no one has talked about video card performance with the beta in this thread...with my GTX 580 (1920 x 1200) I have textures set to 'High' instead of Extreme but every other graphics option maxed out...very playable and smooth...doesn't seem like Titanfall has next-gen graphics even though it is supposed to be the first real Xbox One title...how is performance with 700 series cards with 'Extreme' textures?

I have a 670 with only 2gb of ram so I set it to the setting below insane (which requires 3gb) it runs great with everything maxed out. The problem I have and have seem from other is noticable tearing (v-sync issues). It probably will be addressed by the devs or even through gpu drivers.

Last few matches I played it seems like everyone is just either going sniper or smart pistol. Very annoying to play against.

The smart pistol shouldn't even be in the game really...you can get like 4 insta-kills on grunts, and it really doesn't take much time to kill a pilot with it.

I set it on Insane with my 680 with 2 GB, and the game runs fine. I think either the "3+ GB VRAM" requirement is either an exaggeration, or the final Insane textures aren't in the game yet.

Nothing about the current textures really screams that it should require that much VRAM to me, so I'm guessing it's the latter.

Really? I would love to play against those. Pistol takes too long to lock on from too short range. Sniper just doesn't work well in a double jump/wall-running game.

In my experience the smart pistol has a pretty insane lock-on range for a pistol...and then you can get that upgrade that makes it lock on even farther and faster. I've been killed from sniper ranges with it before, having never seen anyone or had any indication that I was being locked.

Unless you are sights-on a guy with the Carbine and accurately pumping your full mag into his face, you will still get locked and killed with the smart pistol before they die. It's happened to me a dozen times already.

It's really just a pretty cheap weapon in general, and the game doesn't need it. I'm 100% certain it was included to appease console players using a controller.

HUH Whats a "sniper range".....because I'm having a hard time believing your getting killed from more than 25-30m with it.

Titanfall looks darn good, in my opinion. Sure, technically speaking, it isn't the flashiest engine around. So what? It runs well and looks slick enough.

and your 580 is much more powerful than an Xbone (7790 with DDR3), so I'm not sure what you are on about?

The MSAA options seem to "work". I was running 8xMSAA just then just fine. Still have to cut the VSYNC off to keep the numbers from flashing across my screen the entire time though.

Does anyone know how to stop Titanfall from blacking out my other monitor while in game? I know about unchecking the "Disable desktop composition" but I would like a way to keep Aero on. Any ideas?

Like 100-150m, no joke. I've also watched a kill cam of a guy locking me within like half a second and blasting me. Not only can it lock from pretty far, but you can just aim and be dead accurate with it from a large distance as well, since none of the weapons in this game really seem to have any sort of recoil or realistic bullet trajectory. I dunno if I'd go as far as to say it's hitscan, but it's pretty close.

The game is seriously like at least 50% people running around cloaked with Smart Pistols. You know when half or more of players are using one weapon, there's an issue.

Regardless, I will say that the game runs well, is really fast-paced, and is pretty easy to get into even as a newbie. I actually kinda like the fact that Attrition matches are so quick, because you can just kill time with them without having a whole big commitment to worry about.

Also, dropping the Titan and jumping in, with all the animations, are really cool. However, the actual Titan combat is pretty hilarious...mostly it's just dudes smashing into each other spamming the melee attack. Kinda looks silly as hell but maybe they'll balance the melee damage.

All in all it's a good time-waster, but without more game modes I can see it getting stale pretty fast.

There, did the research for you since you since you couldn't be bothered.

Yes, being able to buy all the unlocks without having to ever play the game is PTW.

Good lord. That's not "pay2win". If you really believe that then all its conveying is that you didn't actually play or understand the game, either that or you tried it a few times after buying it in the humble bundle. It was also forever before they even made those available. SMFH.

The whole notion of pay2win has been so diluted now by people with no concept or understanding of a game that it's essentially been dragged down to the point of meaninglessness.

Source engine alright. Solid 60FPS at 2560x1440p with 4xMSAA and almost lock to 60fps at 4K (SuperSampled) with not AA, it does weird drop when they are smoke trail. Drivers are still not yet optimised so ;) That with a 780 OC with overclock on top of it..

I never said it looked bad...the mech movements and animations are excellent...overall world textures are not the greatest though...I was just commenting on the overall playability of the game with my GTX 580 when I thought this was going to be a hardware killer...I'm glad I don't have to upgrade to a GTX 780 (now I can wait for Witcher 3 before doing that)

I try to keep a short distance with mech vs mech battles...use the secondary missles plus that cannon gun...I used to like the chain-gun but I think the canon deals more damage...melee attacks are usually the finishing move for me but with so many people using that nuke explosion thing I like to keep some distance

I also love dropping mechs on top of enemies :D

last night when I played, it didn't blow my skirt up. tonight I'm having all sorts of fun.

the more you play with different strategies it becomes more fun...straight up mech fights can get old...but using your mech in creative ways is fun

So far I've found that on the two beta/demo/whatever maps, there is not a lot of room to really "be creative" with the Titans. It's either just taking potshots with rockets and cannons, or an all-out fist brawl up close. Using the shield effectively can sometimes work, but most of the time I just see people either preemptively both using the shield at the same time and looking idiotic, or just going guns-blazing at each other. Dodging would be good, except half the time you either run into a building or another teammate's Titan. There's just not much room to move in these maps so far.

Hopefully there will be some maps that are slightly more open to allow for more battalion-style Titan combat.

if this is what nextgen console games look like we are in trouble

So called "nextgen" that means it looks like 3 year old pc games at best.

Nah, I would say Evolve is what next-gen looks like.

This is likely going to be a CoD-style franchise...not really known for graphics but cranking out a lot of DLC... :p

or you could look at games like Killzone and Ryse before making statements like that

Dude. It's the Source Engine. They started developing the game with a handful of people on like no budget. They had to get a cheap engine that they could easily modify to fit their needs.

creative ways meaning use 'Follow' mode and jump in and out of your Titan...rodeo enemy Titans and destroy them...when you're about to be destroyed get up close to as many Titans as you can, eject and detonate the nuke taking out the area close to you...use the buildings for cover rather then the shield...use the Dash move as often as possible...lots of fun ways to play rather then straight tanking

If the source 2 engine drops this year (HL 3 confirmed) I see it feasible for Titanfall 2 to be running the source 2 engine.

Yeah, I agree with this. There's tons of ways to use Titans since their primary purpose is team support. Running off to box enemy Titans while ignoring infantry is probably the easiest way to lose your own.

You guys complaining about the AI just being KDR padding should know that in Attrition (TDM), AI kills are completely separate from player kills and barely contribute to your overall score. In Hardpoint, they only show player kills.

Right, but context is everything. It's not like you can only get Pilot OR AI kills, usually people with a high number of Pilot/Titan kills will also have a decent amount of AI kills. I've never seen someone with, say, 2 Pilot kills and 40 AI kills beat someone with 6 Pilot kills and 20 AI kills.

Anyway, my point was that the game doesn't value AI kills nearly as much as Player kills

here's a game I completed a few minutes ago (I'm TitusNYC)...you're saying that AI kills don't count as much as human/pilot kills but I don't see that being the case...I'm sure pilot kills are worth more but not anything significant...people with more pilot kills then me are getting less overall points even if everything else is almost equal
