Amazon Prime Price Hike Will Hit Subscriber Base Hard

I'm with you all. I've been paying for Prime for about 2 years. $79 was palatable mostly because of the free shipping. I did use the video streaming but I would have preferred netflix.

There is NO chance that I'd pay 120 a year. Zero.

Also, most of the time Amazon simply pricematches other retailers sales. Why not just buy at the other retailers. Heck, I went into bestbuy last month and it actually wasn't a complete disaster... so there has been improvement.

Because Amazon has earned my trust, making returns easy and painless, with good customer service, and I have my receipt easily cataloged with all my other orders online for warranty issues and such. If I can buy something at Amazon for the same price as just about any other store, I'll go with Amazon.

I do realize that when they get too big for their own good, its likely to harm consumers and they're liable to turn into a Walmart soon enough.

Prime really never made sense to me as you're not really saving $$ at all...you're paying extra for something that may not even make a difference...living in NYC I get most of my Free Shipping items just as fast as Prime...now if Prime eliminated sales tax then it would be worth it

I don't even renew my amazon prime at my speccial $39/yr. they might want to charge people $119?

lately I have been finding walmart even with tax cheaper than many things on amazon that I buy and free UPS shipping to home on orders over $50 or just pick it up when im there anyway for in store stuff.

Amazon increased the super savings free shipping minimum from $25 to $35 a few months ago. I am not surprised that the Prime service is going to have a price increase as well.

Amazon is still a good deal for people who don't have to pay sales tax.

It's still a good deal for people who do have to pay sales tax. Not having to drag myself out through traffic to some store that may or may not have what I want, and then standing in line with the dregs of humanity to pay for it, is worth a lot of money. And STILL the prices are lower. Paying sales tax is a zero compared to all that.

Yeah, Free Shipping is great...IF you are ordering over $35 worth of stuff at a time.

Otherwise, I'll take Prime. Although, I have to say that the "Add-On" program is bullshit. I understand why they did it but that's pissed me off more than anything so far.

Even at $300/year I still make bank with all the stuff we get shipped for that annual fee. Bring it on Amazon!

Been with prime for about 1 year and half. I was happy to pay the $79 a year, but I'm not going to renew if it hikes up.

it saves me far above the cost of the subscription even at 119, its still a bargain for me.

Remember that anything that qualifies for prime shipping also qualifies for free shipping without prime. The only difference is the shipping time.

From reading all these comments it's obvious people like Prime for different reasons.

Im sure they did get a lot of new customers from the buzz, but if they truly want to raise prices, they should just have two or three options to choose from instead of one size fits all.

Id prefer they just leave it alone, but they could have something like
$79 / free 2 day shipping, no streaming,
$89 free 2 day with streaming,
$119 free 2 day, streaming, and $5/order ( not per item ) overnight ( for packages under certain weight / size / bulk ) .

Yeah, more complicated, but one size fits all, doesn't fit well for a lot of people.

I like ordering on a Friday as Saturday delivery usually costs double in the UK.

Feels like I'm getting better value for money on Prime then.

There is no free shipping on orders under $35 without Prime. I pretty much quit using Amazon since I can't get free Prime trials anymore. Their free shipping orders typically don't ship for at least two business days. They seem to deliberately slow down non Prime orders.

Amazon charges you for the free shipping on small items anyhow. I looked at some safety glasses that cost about $3 with shipping of $4 to $5 from third parties on Amazon. Amazon is charging $7 or $8 for the same safety glasses, but they have "free" shipping.

Even at $120, the amount of time and gas I save is more than that not having to drive to a store.
