Anyone playing this yet? How is it? Getting my copy after I get off work today. Have tomorrow off to play.

XIII-2 was OK. If you like weird time travel type stories. I actually liked XIII better but it seems like I'm the only one.

I just bought FFXIII-2. I had a blast with FFXIII spent 100+ hours on it, did all quests and got most Ultimate Weapons. FFXIII-2 is like 16.00 on Amazon Prime. I figure when I finish that LR will be 40-20, and I'll get it by then. FFXIII for me scored a 9.0 imho. The internets are full of haters for the game though. They can't handle a fast paced battle system, they need the slow turned based one to understand it. I don't know what they're going to do when FFXV happens that is an even faster battle system from the looks of the trailer. Let the whining begin :D

If the focus of the complaints were on the battle system alone, you may have had a point. But the game is bad in every aspect. My problem with the battle system was that I never had direct control over the character, and the "fast pace" was essentially pattern memorization Buff A, Attack B, Swap Stance, Attack C, Heal D, rinse repeat till dead. Making it fast paced didn't make it better, it just made the tedium that it was more frustrating. After the 20hr tutorial hallway the one "open" zone was just a grind fest.

Story, dialogue, item system, lack of towns, linearity, no mini-games (in a zone that is supposed to be a huge theme park / carnival!) and multitude of other issues made it a terrible game.

But this has been discussed to death elsewhere, its not a "haters" thing, its calling a spade, a spade. Looking forward to FF15 even though it was previously a "versus" title from what I'm reading. I won't be buying it until user reviews come out though, thats for sure.

I played the demo of LR from the Japanese PSN. The battle and job changing system seems good, but.. I understand the amount of time and money went into FF13; it's just that I'd rather they made new stories with new worlds and new a cast instead of sequels.

I guess that's why, for me personally, FF12 was such a welcome fresh breath of air after having to endure the whole X and X-2 years.

I'll eventually play it, still need to play XIII-2. XIII was big let down for me.

I actually liked the battle system for the most part. The only thing I didn't like is if the party leader died it was game over.

I just hated how the game was so linear. I didn't like how you couldn't change your party like nearly 40 hours into the game. I didn't like how it wasn't til near the end you could go back to different zones.

FFXIII seemed more like a DMC game with turn based combat.

XIII-2 was fantastic, I didn't really like XIII that much. It took a while for the monster system in XIII-2 to click with me, however the game got tremendously better once it did.

I gave away my PS3 when I got a PS4. Totally forgot about needing to play XIII-3 :(

I'm definitely liking Lightning Returns. If you go into it expecting a normal FF game, you're going to be disappointed. It really is more of a Japanese adventure game. There's no time travel (so far) but time is very important. You have a limited amount of time to complete the game in. You can stop time or extend time to get more done. There is a clock on the screen with the current time and you always have to be mindful or it. Some quests will only start at a specific time. Others have to be done by a specific time. Combat is very different and I don't care much for it yet. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually.

I'm enjoying it but I can tell I'm not using my time effectively. I might not even beat it on the first round, but I'm not that worried about it.

Whelp, that kills all interest I had in the game.

It's more than enough time. Plus you have the ability to stop time using resources you get from fighting monsters. If you do enough sidequests you can double the amount of time you have. If somehow you don't finish in time, you go into New Game+ starting over but keeping your items and stats.

Not too bad then, I guess. I just dislike in general when SP games impose these artificial-feeling time limits on things. Pikmin is a good example where the time thing was stupid, and in the sequel they removed that entirely.

I have more than enough time in the game. I completed all the main quests and now only have "kill 30 mobs" or something to that effect to complete.

I might just skip a few days, i dunno if I'm gonna miss out on any events that might happen later in the game.

That's the only part of the game that I don't like. Some quests are limited to a specific time. I accidentally picked one up that I didn't want to take yet. So now on my next day I have to go back to that city and spend some time there. I've also missed a step in two sidequests because I got the a location like 30 seconds too late. So then you have to wait a day to continue those sidequests. It puts a bit of pressure on you to stay on schedule. For a first playthrough that can be tough but I think subsequent playthroughs will be interesting.

PS3 Codes if anyone wants them:
Yuna Code: JGJF-FJNA-ECHT & Cloud Code: ENDK-7EN7-2D9K

That's the most "this is a Japanese game" thing I've ever heard in my life. If you miss a spot by 30 seconds, you're late to do the quest? Can you do it again...or is a new game + required?

How is Toriyama still making FF games? They should have fired him after the first "Lightning game".
You can see the huge difference in XV, cause his lightning obsessed hands aren't on it.

Some of them you can. You go the next day at the same time. Others you just fail and are unable to do until NG+.

It's not that hard to manage your time. I've never really had an issue completing quests. It was never "you missed this place by 30 seconds" because the distance was too far. With chronostasis (freeze time for a few minutes), I had time to spare on all my quests.

There were times where I looked at a quest and missed its time for the day because I wasnt paying attention (I was focused on other quests), but its not like a frantic time squeeze to get everything done. I havent failed a quest because I ran out of time, I just completed it the following day.

I'm on day 8 I think, and I've completed most of the side quests. There are some collection quests and "find this" quest which I havent figured out where to go, but I have days of extra time.

Ahh, well OK then, that sounds fine. I just get really anxious when I have to do things in a certain amount of time. Anxiety...
