Corsair Obsidian Series 250D Mini-ITX Case Review @ [H]

Mine was delivered straight from Corsair today. So they are now officially in the wild.

Sadly though, due to a water pipe breaking in my home yesterday afternoon, the case is at work and I am at home dealing with the dryout process. To add the most gloriously awesome insult possible to injury, the case is in the middle of downtown Seattle right now, where there are 500,000+ people attending the Seahawks parade. So even though I have an hour available right now to go get it I can't do so.... It would probably take me an hour just to find parking.

I just hope Amazon gets them in and out this week! The rest of my new lan/tv gaming build is sitting ready to be installed! :D

Got my new system built last night. Quick warning for those considering this case..

You can not properly fit a normal 200mm front fan (A thin one should work if you could find one) + 240mm radiator in this case. At least not any way I can see.

The radiator has two mounting options, a lower set of holes that are closer to the back and a higher set that are closer to the front. If you use a 200mm fan you pretty much have to use the lower set of holes because otherwise you won't have room to connect the 120mm fan closest to the front of the case. However, you can't use the lower set because the lower tube of the radiator (H100i in my case) ends up having to be severely bent to avoid the left-most I/O ports on the motherboard (In the case of the ASUS Z87i-Deluxe these are the 4 USB 2.0 ports). I did actually get this to work anyway, but the lower tube is kinked a bit and the USB 2.0 ports have a lot of pressure on them, to the point that the upper two can not be used.

Currently I do have it connected in the manner described above, but that is because I ran out of time to undo it. Tonight I will be removing the 200mm fan and will revert to the 140mm. It is unfortunate that Corsair could not find a way to make these parts work together given that this case is clearly intended to complement the H100i.

Steve, question for you...

If you use a 110i in this case with its two standard fans can you still fit the 5.25" drive bay as well? If not, will it work with slim fans?

A couple of your pictures make it look like it would fit, a couple others like it definitely wouldn't. Can you confirm?

Thanks!

Edit:

NM, found my answer in this image:

Looks like it fits just fine. It was the camera angle in one of your shots that threw me off. Thanks anyway.

isnt a 110 a 140mm with no 'i'?

is Corsair.com the only current place to buy this case (who can ship immediately)?

It looks like this has enough room to not need a modulay PSU. Do you think I can cram an older Seasonic 650W in here without issue?

I think you could. There is a lot of room to work with for the PSU. The main issue would be making it look nice, but even that shouldn't be a big deal if you leave the 5.25" bay in, since it sits above the area you will be packing all your excess cords into anyway.

I'm planning a build with the 250D soon and am looking to get the h100i and considering replacing the stock front fan with a 200mm one as well. Do you know what size fan would fit? 25mm thick or should I only consider 20mm thick? Thanks for any input

I have the case and it looks awesome. Unfortunately a few bent pins on the CPU socket meant an exchange for a new motherboard. Sadly I'd disassembled most of my previous system before I noticed. I was really looking forward to building it this weekend.

question for the 250d owners - how would you rate the front "aluminum like" finish on the front? Does is look good?

It is a piece of thin aluminum attached to a plastic back plate. Looks like any other Corsiar brushed aluminum finish imo. Looks good!
