Speaker suggestion?

I'm currently in need of a set of speakers for my computer (specs in sig) I've been using headphones for a while now and I'd like some speakers. I'm fairly naive as far as speaker specs as I'm used to only buying 2.1 set ups from BB and the like. About 5 years ago I picked up a Dayton Audio DIY speaker kit and they sounded great once I got them hooked up. Things changed and they sat unused for years and I eventually gave them away to a friend who could use them. Fast forward another year or so and here I am looking for speakers lol

Since I really liked this kit I've been considering getting another set and putting them together, but I was curious if there was maybe something else out there in the same price range that I should look at? Now, these will be used for computer gaming audio and some music from Spotify or my iTunes library but I do not have space on or around my desk for a receiver to power these things, do I have any other options there or do I need to look at set made for pc audio? I have no brand loyalty but I'd like to stay around the $150 mark.

Thanks!

There's some small amps you can buy that won't take up much desk space (I'll let someone with experience with them make suggestions), but, is around $150 really the max you're willing to spend on the complete setup? The unassembled speaker kit you posted is at 160 already plus a $25 shipping fee. Do you have some speaker wire and an interconnect on hand?

I should have clarified, ~$150 for the speakers themselves, I've already accepted there will be some more money flowing to get them powered some how. :)

I do have speaker wire and the interconnect.

Gotcha. Along with the speaker kit, you could order one of these little T amps, also from Parts Express. I've seen the Dayton and Lepai models in the $27-30 price range mentioned a few times.

I ended up ordering the Micca MB42x speakers. I took some measurements of my desk and it has a little shelf that the monitor sits on and these speakers will also sit on that riser shelf. The Dayton's were way too big but the Miccas will just fit.

Now on an amp for these, does anyone know of an amp like the Topping T22 that has two inputs but also has a headphone jack? Its not a major deal, just thought it would be convenient to have. If not, and unless someone has a better amp with multiple inputs I will probably order it today.

Thanks!

If I may ask, what lead you to those, in particular?

googling around and reading some reviews on bookshelf speakers I came to this..

and then more googling on those I came to this...

more googling has overall positive reviews of these, the price is right too. I usually ask on here for some stuff before just googling because I like the forum interaction and discussion versus just reading random reviews.

They should be here Tuesday and I just need to score an amp now.

I've had the privilege of meeting Andrew Jones a few times and he is awesome. Interesting, he has a twin brother Owen, who is equally bright in audio but with amplifiers and electronics. Together, they are a bit of a dream team for audio engineering.

His TAD speakers are amazing. Unfortunately, ahem, slightly above my price range.
