The 10 Best Flying Games Ever

X-Wing and Tie Fighter were two of my all time favorites. Glad to see Tie Fighter was up there.

Rogue Squadron was hella fun... Can't remember which OS broke it but I was said when that happened.

left out wing commander and f19 strike fighter and starlancer, whoever wrote that doesn't know shit.

WHAT????????????????????? NO janes combat simulations for real ? WTF? No Microprose either? Wheres the f-117, f-19, janes f-15 f18 super hornet ,longbow? DCS a-10?
Falcon 4.0?

Yeah, Desert Strike! Loved that game, had Urban Strike and Jungle Strike too.

Good to see IL-2 at number 1, fantastic game.

A lot of things missing. A lot of flight sim enthusiast titles missing. Maybe they just don't know what a good one actually is? Not that their list is completely devoid of good stuff.

F-15 Strike Eagle, Aces over the pacific, chuck yeager advanced flight trainer?

Oh shit, I'm getting old.

Where is X-Plane?

As far as RC flying Sims go there is RealFlight which also has Multi-player combat and is tons of fun. Thousands of free user created aircraft too.

Played about 1/2 of those.

X-Plane is dull, dull, dull.

Lame list. IL-2 Sturmovik was good, but they posted a video to the spin off game that is not related to the real series.

No Ace Combat? No Jane's titles? No DCS? Rise of Flight?

Only things that deserved to be there were Flight Simulator and IL-2.

Also forgot to mention, Pilot Wings 64 was great. Never played the original, but I guess that might be worthy of the list.

If Wing Commander and Star Wars games made that list, Freespace and Descent should have as well.

X-wing was awesome, loved the big space battles and trench runs.
Rogue squadron was great too even if rather short.
Disc says 95/98 so a good chance it won't even run on 7/8.

Bought both CD's when they came out.

I'd love to see a 2014 version of x-wing with super realistic graphics but keep the flight sim style the same.

Another shitty blog where you have to click 9000 times to see everything.

Where's Warhawk for PSone?

IL-2 Sturmovik with AEP, PF,Pe-2, 1946, etc.was such a great game that lasted a really long time until the divide between mods and no mods. I miss those days of playing in Full Real servers with droptanks and flying for in excess of 5 hours.

CoD was basically a bust. Hoping Battle Of Stalingrad brings it all back for me in the future.

Hell, how about Falcon 3.0

Or Microsoft Apache Simulator?

F-15 Strike Eagle, Aces over the pacific, chuck yeager advanced flight trainer?

I had the entire Aces over ____box set. Wicked fun games if you had the system to drive them.

I would spend significant money on such a game - I loved x-wing and tie fighter.

Rogue works on 7, it should work on 8

Actually I'm thinking on trying it for my kid.

Half the team (or part of it) is working on DCS WWII. More realistic than BoS and it will be on a DX11 engine rather than a DX9 engine. Might be worth checking out.

Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator was awesome, and spawned a bazillion mods, maps, missions, and custom planes. I used to have 50+ websites bookmarked for info and downloads, and modded more than a few planes myself. The lack of recognition in the list proves it totally bogus.

They missed all of the most prominent MMO combat flight simulators like warbirds, aces high, air warrior, ww2online etc.

Freespace 2. End of discussion.

It's not only the greatest space combat sim of all time, it's one of the greatest games of all time.

Fail list is fail, no MS Combat, Rise of Flight. Im waiting for the mechs in mechwarrior to fly.

no Microprose games on list=Fail.

used to play the hell out of Gunship, helped I was actually in Germany at the time, we had real enemies in our games! The Warsaw pact was just over the border. none of this "lets pretend the North Koreans could find their ass with both hands and invade the US" crap.

You kids get off my lawn!

Man.. I cant believe there was no mention of Elite. I played the hell out of that game back in my Commadore 64 days.

Been reading many threads since this this one about installing older games on 7, the main issue is many old games [lucasarts for one] had 16bit installers so if you are running 7-64 which I am you cannot just install the game.
You can if you go through hoops with downloading patch .dll's and some other black magic work around tricks.

In reality if you really wanted to play all your older games the best way would be build a AMD APU system since the latest has plenty of power for old games, then install XP 32 on it, update it and remove it from the net.
