GTX 560 to a GTX 760 on a i5-2500k processor?

Hi, I'm a little out of the loop since I built my system, would a i5-2500k (socket 1155) bottleneck a GTX 760 @ 1080p on a single monitor? And will I notice a nice boost in performance over a 560 GTX? Or would a processor upgrade be necessary to take advantage of a GTX760? I really can't OC the CPU as I have a stock cooler and it's in a HTPC environment where fan noise would be an issue.

I think you'd be ok with that processor as long as you didn't go to SLI later in that setup.

Ok, what about the jump from a 560 GTX to a 760 GTX? Good upgrade/noticeable boost in game performance?

A GTX 760 would be roughly 75% faster than a GTX 560, so yes, it will be very noticeable indeed for gaming.

Edit: noteworthy, OP has a GTX 560, not a GTX 560 Ti.

Yes, I have a normal 560 GTX. Thanks for the info guys. I have my 560 GTX sold to my father for $100 so it won't be much out of pocket to do the upgrade and once summer comes I'll be outdoors away from the PC so now is the time to enjoy PC gaming while it's cold and I'm cooped up inside so it looks like I'm going to get a 760 GTX. :D

Your 2500k will be fine, I am running two 760's and they're great. If your at stock clocks, you can get more breathing room with an OC. There isn't really enough benefit to go to Ivy or Haswell from Sandy.

Got the card today. Had a little buyers remorse waiting for it to come, but upon installing it and trying some games, I can say I'm very happy with it! Even in a xbox 360 game (PC port) it's so much smoother....no more slowdowns!

Don't be afraid to SLI with that Sandy either, should you choose to in the future. A 2500K is not going to bottleneck anything - not even quad-SLI. Sandys are strong processors that were a large increase in performance over their predecessors, and the performance gains of everything since then (ivy and haswell) has been very incremental.

An I5-2500k is plenty for a 760 or 2 or 3, especially with an overclock, you'll be fine.

I'm considering this jump from a 560ti to an EVGA 760GTX SC. I'm mainly wanting this for BF4 and I use a 24 inch Dell Ultrasharp. Is it worth it to go 770 or R9 280? I rather stay at under 300 dollars and I'm wondering if the performance difference justifies the extra 100 dollars.

At 1200p a 760 would be good bang for your buck. You'll get more frames with a 770 of course, but once again it's really how sensitive you are to framerate vs how much you want to spend.

When you get in high GPU horsepower situations like large fights the fps dips on the 760 will be a little lower than a 770, and that's where most people notice it. Just running along in the open world you probably couldn't tell the difference between them

I have a 780 on a 2500k and I have no issues...that cpu is still a beast especially when you overclock!

Now I'm thinking about getting a 780 GTX OC...lol. Funny how I was content with a 560 GTX over a month ago, got a 760 GTX and got a nice boost in performance, and now I'm getting overly greedy for performance, lol. :p Would anyone be interested in buying a 30 day old 760 GTX OC for $170 plus shipping?

I was running SLI EVGA GTX 760 SC for a few weeks. It was awesome it was fantastic in benchmarks not a single problem with any game that utilized the 2nd gpu. I sold the 2nd one few days ago I decided I want to get EVGA GTX 780ti since it will give me the performance I had of the 2 x 760's and I can add another one if the need arises. SLI 760's will draw about 550 to 600 watts with both cards over 90% usage just something to keep in mind if you wish to go that route.

I sold mine for 180.00 to a really nice guy I made some money back not what I paid for it but it made someone else very happy so.

Tried to hold out for maxwell but....

I just got a 2nd GTX 760 for SLI. Also have some buyers remorse due to some kinks of SLI but when running in games they are pretty awesome. Not enough remorse to buy a 780ti though. I do hope I can hold out till the refresh of maxwell now :)

A single GTX 760 pulls around 170w so make that 340w in SLI. Even OC'ed there is no way these will pull much more than 400w.

That was to be clear total system wattage not just the GPU's wattage. I had my Killawatt running just my tower with both cards running over 90% and total system power was nearly 600 watts but I am running an overclocked i7 and 6 hard drives etc etc. Yes the 2 x 760's would draw exactly about 340 to 350 watts together as you stated rogue trip.
