I was in my local Best Buy in Danvers, MA. yesterday & noticed these Cerwin Vega XD3 for $59.99 They were marked as "clearance" There were 6+ units there. What's strange is on BB website they are $119.99!

Anyway...I needed some speakers for a Windows XP build that's down in my basement & I must say...I'm pretty impressed with them! 3-year warranty as well. Never knew Cerwin even made 2.0 computer speakers. Maybe you might want to check & see if your local BB has them on clearance as well. Worth every nickel IMHO.

Wow...No replies. I'm confused here. I went to BB today & picked-up another pair for a back-up. For the money it can't be beat IMHO. Thought I would post just the same.

I'm glad you like them for $60... but they're 2.0 PC speakers with a 3 inch "woofer". I doubt there will be much in the way of excitement for them at any price.

Majority of people frequenting this particular forum have moved on from sets like that, I think.

Ok that makes sense. For $60.00 I consider them a steal. I'm breaking them in now & they should be even better.

John721: They really seem well built. Solid 2-way speakers & a three year warranty. Not bad.

I don't mean to sound too negative, if I did. I'd not be the slightest bit surprised if they're better than anything else available in that price range by a wide margin.

It's just, reading posts in this forum, most people are either after 2.1 or they've already spent more on powered monitors and better gear.

I'd think this deal might attract a lot more attention at other slightly less hardcore forums :) Still can't hurt to share it here though! It's clearly a good deal.

ThinJ: I hear you. Funny, I have a nice semi-old (7+ year old) Marantz receiver & some sweet NHT bookshelf speakers in my home office/computer room. The Marantz has 2 optical outs & I never wanted to hook that into my motherboard. Why? No need too! I want a easy 2.1 set-up with a "mute" button a few inches away from me. I LOVE my 9 year old Cambridge Soundworks 250D set up! I dare anyone that could find a better 2.1 out-of-the-box system.

I understand now that this sub-forum is for higher-end audio, which is very cool. Understand this is for a Windows XP build that's down in my basement. These Cerwin Vega's really ROCK! I'm so amazed by the power these speakers put out! Yes...it's only a 3" woofer with 3/4 silk dome tweeter, but I'm so happy with my purchase! As I mentioned, I picked-up another pair because I love them so much & @ a clearance price, it's a bargain!

for 60 bucks that a great deal....the look just like m-audios...bet they sound the same as well

Prime: Holy smokes you're correct! These are the same exact speakers (just without the bass extender that the CV has) Private label from some Chinese company? Either way, they really are damn good! I'm down in my basement cranking out some old Rush tunes & it's almost 1:00AM (I need some sleep) Checkout this M-Audio AV-30 link here:

Your right! These are the same speakers! Guys...For those of you that want a simple 2.0 set-up, these are really a great deal!

I wish they were $40 i need some speakers for work, I can blast metal on from my N4 lol

for the sale / close out price that is probably a pretty decent deal.

personally I'd still take my T-amp + Bookshelf speaker (used or vintage can be rather inexpensive)

but blah blah blah here is about a $70~ solution here

SMSL SA-S3 T-amp $60~ish shipped and $10 Optimus Pro-X44AV speaker (similar to minimus 7s)

you never know what you might score speaker wise...

in this picture top shelf from left Optimus Pro-X5 $10pr, NHT SuperZero $50pr, Monitor Audio Silver S1 $11.25pr (scroe) and off to right DCM TimeFrame TF250's $20pr)
below is the other Pro-X44AV)

What I don't understand is why the computer set-up with an amp? I mean, do people sit in their office chair watching movies for 2 hours? Not me. I love my 2-channel set-up for music:

1-Rogue Audio 66 Pre-Amp w/ Mullard Tubes (NOS from the 80's)
1-NAD C542 CD Player
2-NAD C270 Amps (Bi-Amped)
1-Music Hall MMF-5 TT
1-Pair of NHT ST4 Speakers

Why do you want super power for the computer? Listening to music & playing PC games is a HUGE difference! That's why I think computer vs. music listening is different!

You have 480 watts RMS for your computer. Im very sure atarione's smsl amp that puts out 20 watts x2 is quite a bit less power than your setup. Anytime you have a speaker setup there is an amp.

The AV 30s are a decent deal for $60, but the AV 40s are so much better, and can usually be found for $120 or less. Still rocking the same set of AV 40s on my computer here (had for about 5 years).

Still, at that price point you can grab them for just about anything :D

At $120, you might as well save up for BX5 or BX5 clones.
