The bit wars of the 90s compared to gaming of today.

Thanks...

off topic but please tell me you didn't buy an Insignia TV. :)

Sons room and yeah its a slim 1080p 32 led TV its actually pretty good for gaming he has his 360, Wii and og modded Xbox and Blu-Ray hooked to it. I game on a full grid led 52 inch sharp aquos.

With all my consoles I have 3 different rooms with systems my pics are in the thread at the top of this forum

Edit
On the og topic my wife called me from work and while redoing the waiting room they found a SNES in a cabinet she's bringing it home.

You are a lucky man!

This thread is inspiring me to get some older stuff hooked up again. I have a 3d0 I would like to set up for old times sake too. And I want to show my daughter my Virtual Boy, She will get a kick out of that.

Yet again, Teletran shows up with a complete lack of objectivity perhaps not even reading the entire post and starts regurgitating complete nonsense.

You are so incredibly misguided in this subject that it's sad and you should not post again. Did anyone even once say that the hardware isn't impressive? Did anyone once say that the price of the PS4 for the power isn't impressive compared to similarly specced PCs? No. The point of all this is that if you have no fucking games for your amazing console, then that is the point? The games for the PS4 and Xbox One are incredibly mediocre. To not be able to see that or at least be honest with yourself and admit it is ignorant. I was comparing the console launches of the 90s and their respective games to today's and how companies are trying to sell us on their next-gen consoles... with pretty graphics and spec sheets.

That doesn't make the console great. Games make a console great. Why don't you think before posting? Nobody either has denied that there was a lot of shitty games back then too, but companies distinguished themselves by the great games you can play as opposed to what it's capable of. Nobody overpayed for anything Teletran regarding our computers. I spent probably around $1000 for my computer, but guess what it can do...

Have a extremely wide variety of games not available on PS4.
Play better looking games.
Better controls.
Cheaper games.
And guess what, I can even type up my papers for school on my computer. A computer can do so much more than a PS4, and to compare it somehow price-wise is a ridiculous attempt from you to justify your worthless console. Seriously, how old are you to not understand what I and others are saying? You keep bringing up spec numbers and prices, and other worthless means of comparison. If you have no compelling games on a GAME CONSOLE, then what is the point of it's existence? Nobody doubts the PS4 will have great games and is impressive for the price, but my point was asking what the justification of buying it RIGHT NOW was, as opposed to waiting until there are actual games available for when there are features absent in the PS4 that even the PS3 had such as being able to stream stuff over a media server. I'm not being biased here, I was merely comparing how companies of the 90s tried to sell us on their graphics and and features... just like Microsoft and Sony did this gen.

Ok I'm gonna take this post on baby!

First thing. You need to print/copy/fax/scan. You need a printer first, then guess what a cheap windows laptop will do it completely fine. You could even get a 200.00 or less chromebook and print if you set it up.

Now to not have the intuition to extrapolate from the success of every PS console since the dawn of time that they ALWAYS release amazing titles. Wow good job on convincing yourself not to buy a PS4, but you're not fooling anyone but yourself with that notion. Yeah you kind of failed to put that into your obnoxious comment. If you think their games on PS4 are bad well it's now the all time launch leader of console sales since consoles were launched did you even know that? Because it's pretty damn good for a machine that you think has nothing but bad games, to pull off these sales. Yes/No? So how do you think it's possible for your claim to hold up? The majority of gamers eyes/hearts/minds you're completely off, but with forum rules i'll let you have your opinion. No matter how obvious it is that you're a PC fan first and you're are bashing the PS4 in the only way you can come up with for attention.

You know what I don't need to explain anything more to you, but there's a few things left to point out. You're the one complaining about the PS4, and then backpedalling saying oh of course I never put the system down ;);). Get over yourself please. You don't like the PS4 and you love the PC and you come over here to get folks riled up on your mentality. This thread is YOUR baby, so do us all a favor. Be real and own up to it. You love PC more than consoles and here you are in the Console section. Because you're upset with stuff that doesn't even affect you like who buys a PS4.

But yes gratz on your 1 or 2 thousand dollar printer/PC that plays WoW and MMO's, but when it comes to FPS shooters see it doesn't really matter to me anymore. I'll tell you why. When I put together my first PC it was because of HL1/TF, UT, and Quake games. The last few years I've picked up BF3 and CSGO. I just feel like PC as a gaming platform is no longer for me. I can't stand MMO's because you can't even have a life and be competitive at said game, and FPS have been on the decline for many years. I think BF3 was a great game though, it just needed some better implementation on a few aspects to get the teamwork down for all players, and it would have been best fps of all time for me. Now I'm reluctant to get BF4 because of those small complaints, but I could possibly pick up TitanFall for PC out of sheer wishful thinking, but I'm reserved from what I've been exposed to on the PC platform as of late. Then again with the PS3 and PS4 I have too many games to contend with that in all likelihood will be better for my taste, and imho more cutting edge/evolutionary than what the PC comes up with this year. Triple monitor and higher res are the only compelling reasons I can personally come up with, that makes a PC interesting. The experiences haven't been there forever for someone like me that was DM'n on 56k and having a blast. Faster cable and internet, faster gpus, faster cpus, faster hd's now ssds, gigabit ethernet but the games have dropped in fun factor for me. 399.99 is the deal and their sales back up this notion that the PS4 is not overrated and PC gaming is these days (wait till you see steam box sales, I'm guessing that will turn out like tickle me elmo or furbies) So imho unless you're an MMO diehard or a FPS diehard. You have the superior pixel pusher > than a console pixel pusher grats, you also having a printing device! Grats man but your comment is lacking. I find it funny too that you name not 1 game that the PC has that is so much better than what is on the PS4 or PS3. Why not go in that direction for your next comment. Maybe you can prove to everyone what game(s) they're missing out on by not having an expensive PC.

Thank you that you are no longer in the AMD CPU forums.

I am cry at no mention of the TurboGrafx, but whatever...

I bought a PS4 for 2 reasons.
1. RESOGUN
2. Fully featured DualShock 4 on my PC.

Neither factor out weighed the other, to be honest. Was equally excited for both.
The BIGGEST disappointment of this gen's launch, TO ME, was no new Ridge Racer. Terribly disappointed at Namco for that. I have every Ridge Racer (except the vita abomination...) from 4 all the way to the 3DS version. I would have taken a remake of 6 or 7, with new music, just to have one. Overall, that made it a bittersweet launch for me.

You totally missed the OP's point. You bought a $400 console for a game that could easily be played on any of the consoles made the past 20 years and for the controller that you could have bought separately?

For those of you who bought the PS4 and/or the Xbox One can you really list a good enough game as to why you bought the system? Was there one or two games that were so great that you absolutely had to have the system? Was there some revolutionary new feature that you had to have? I remember what it felt like to "have to have" a system... I mean, if the system had a new amazing Resident Evil game, Metal Gear Solid, Sonic, Mario, Shenmue, Jet Grind Radio, Goldeneye, or Halo... I knew I had to have the system. However, what sold the machines this gen for you? ...

And I didn't know I could play RESOGUN on my SNES..... wtf are you talking about?

Hipster thread of the year goes to you guys. ^

I see a lot of 2/3xxx cpu owners in this thread too. ;) Soooooooo..... if you're to buy an overpriced and over powered Bill GatesPC/Intel gaming machine that barely does more than a PS4 instead of what you should have done and waiting for the PS4. Then slapping in a 1TB Samsung SSD and buy a 1000 watt 5.1 or 7.1 setup with an HDTV. Tell me alllllll about how you're let down by consoles that cost a fraction of the price, that's gnarly dudes.

What game from the past is going to compare to FFXV? FF7? LoZalttp? What game from the past is going to compare to The Evil Within? RE1? Think for a second and imagine there is some 10 year old kid out there playing these games by the end of the year. What game from your past compares to Driveclub? Rad Racer? Virtua Racing? What game from your past compares to COD/BF/TF? Contra? You people have killed off the kid inside of you. Tomb Raider definitive edition? Rambo 3 SMS? Ikari Warriors? Infamous Second son? The Rocketeer SNES? What the hell are you guys even talking about.... the games? The games back then were pretty bad. Nintendo and Atari platformers all over the place with cheap soundtracks or just mono jump noises in pitfall? We have 5.1 now you should get a 5.1 kit instead of an OP intel cpu doh! Do you guys even remember anything about the past or what? Nintendo NES probably had 1,000 games and only 25-50 are worth replaying today = 2.5%-5% of all NES games were worth it imho. Sega Genesis over 500 I bet and maybe 50 worth playing hey 10% imo. You people saying oh man look at how many games are released and I don't want but 1 outta 10 for PS4/XB1/WiiU. Well back in the day you would be lucky to get 1 out of 10 but keep calling it golden or glorious or whatever ridiculous brainwashed idea of how awesome it was with the reaLITY of how many bad/terrible and repetitious games were released then...just block those games out and keep harping on how BAD it is today and how great Mario and Sonic were and there were no crap/shovelware titles ever released back then because they were so artsy. And the game developers back then laid down their lives like Jesus of Nazareth or some other fairy tale, and made the best games we have ever known...not.

Oh dear also let me get a hot cup o tea and listen to you people lambast everything from your glory days when you played with your controllers all day long and watched mighty morphin power rangers or gi joe sunday morning cartoons and didn't even know what a PC or GPU was.

The PS4 is the most amazing kit I have ever seen in gaming history. It is 399.99 has Blu-Ray, has the best game developers, in 2 years time you people are going to wonder why you overpayed for some intel sb/iv/has cpu just to play games the same games on PC that will feel better on the ps4. Or if you're lucky all the good games will come to PC and you can play them on a ds4 lmao! You people are the reason I barely post here anymore. Self entitled everything is better on my SB/IB PC but then you want to whine about how bad it is for todays games, let me tell you something...you're wrong this is the greatest gen, get onboard and get some!

My PC can do anything a PS4 or Xbox one can do and more. I can copy, print, scan, create artwork , create music, create pretty much any form of media. It can play Arcade games, play games from other consoles. I can run other Operating Systems like Linux with a push of a button. I can upgrade it when I want to, I can decide what its components are. I can increase its speed. I can have storage for as much data as I want. I can share its content with others of its kind. Most importantly though I can customize it to my tastes, it can be a cube or a circle or mounted on my wall or fit into my pocket. It can be anything I want it to be.

Can you say the same thing about your console? No. It only does & looks the way Sony & Microsoft want it to. Your Console is the illusion of choice. My PC is my own, it is a reflection & extension of myself.

Basically we live in two different worlds. I grew up with consoles, my first was an Atari 2600. Once I found my way to the PC universe in the late 90's I never looked back. Anything that a console could achieve I could easily integrate into my PC and have everything else availible to me as well. Does it cost more? Not really considering what you pay for the up front cost of a console these days and all of its extra's you get roped into buying. Especially with the conception of services like Steam. The only real difference is what you consider worth paying for. Do you want something that don't have to tinker with for the next 10 years or do you want something that you can customize for your lifestyle?

What I'm talking about is that Resogun, which may be a good game, could have been made on many consoles. The PS4 didn't have to be created to make Resogun. What is so hard to understand? Most of the games on the SNES were not possible on the NES. I'm not saying Resogun IS ON THE PS2, but it COULD have been. Do you follow? If not, I could explain it further for you.

What kind of lame excuse is this? You could say that about every generation, what's the point. Why ever innovate the hardware? Why make new games, if its been done before? Who cares about innovation? Why do you even play games?

Please stop explaining your argument, I don't care.

What? Did you even read the original post? Why are you so offended? If you feel the need to blindly justify your purchase because of a budget game like Resogun then so be it, but when you put it in THIS particular thread where it is totally the direct opposite of what the OP was talking about then yes, I'm going to call you out on it.

You had me until that point. Cheers!

PC is for high resolutions and office tasks. Games like WoW show how badly stagnated the PC gaming machine truly is. It defines the platform.

PS4/XB1/WiiU/PS360/DS/Vita is for ALL types of gaming, that will appeal to ALL ages. Thanks for playing, and have fun in the office.

Ahhhh, the plot thickens,

Having mentioned nothing about World of Warcraft I am sensing that you are a jaded World of Warcaft player who takes his frustraions out on the PC community because he is unhappy with his dealings in this particular game?

Do any of these belong to you?

Also for one so quick to shun the PC community you sure take a lot of pride into displaying your system specs in great detail.......all the way down to the mousepad, that is impressive.

Got the Wii on Saturday and it is in excellent shape!
Also got Zelda Twilight princess and am psyched to play that.

The Wii controls are a challenge to get used to though, I hope it gets easier because I hate 'em. But the console itself is fantastic! Can't believe I waited so long. Really makes me want a Wii U even more now.
Mario in 1080P, bring it on!!!

I guess the whole thing about retro gaming is this. You play a PS4 or a PC and get bored and being able to go to these systems and play them you just have more options for having fun. It's like watching old movies. Old movies aren't boring because they didn't have CGI, you enjoy them for other reasons, characters and themes.

I feel bad for people who discount older games. They are really missing out on a ton of fun.

I've never even played it once. I've never touched it I've never installed it I've never played a demo. I've seen it on youtube and think, my god this is the dumbest game on the planet though if people are willing to throw years of their lives into it. No a good or even great game should take 100+ hours at most.

I thought listing my sig was par for the course on this site sort of like a conversation, no harm in it.

I'm shunning (your words not mine) people that build a super gaming PC or overspend, and play Crysis or WoW on it. lol sorry but imho that is crazy. Make some movies with that system or get creative, don't waste it on WoW and Crysis. and if you want to play GOOD games just spend 399 on the ps4 or 199-299 on PS3. Guess what that is my freaking opinion but guess what it's also no bs.

My PS3 has not bored me for 1 second. I wish I could get behind Nintendos Wii U plan. It's just so meh thus far. I really want to play a Zelda again, but their marketing and the soon/future retiring of SM pushes me back pretty far.

Maybe I chose a bad word. Playing older games "mixes it up". Makes gaming a broader more rewarding experience.

But hey, if you are never bored more power to you. If true I envy you.

You should have just bought a Wii U. It's backwards compatible with the Wii and then that way you can play the Wii U games too. I myself skipped out on the Wii so now I can play all the Wii and Wii U games.

Maybe I chose a bad word. Playing older games "mixes it up". Makes gaming a broader more rewarding experience.

But hey, if you are never bored more power to you. If true I envy you.

Oh I agree with you, if I had no Wii or Wii U I would pick the WIi over the Wii U. More titles/variety/gameplay. The bad thing is the 480p limit, but for games/fun get a Wii yeah definitely you're smart. Having a huge library like the PS3 is what keeps me from getting bored waiting for a new game when you can find an old game that is good to keep you interested in your gaming system currently at hand.

PC has a much bigger library...

*waits for it*

Good point, but I mainly bought it to play gamecube games because I thought I had some GC controllers in my attic. Turns out I didn't (or can't find them). Plus I didn't want to spend a lot of dough.

"Good" might mean totally different things to different people. Those "good" games to you might be terrible to someone who likes multi-boxing WoW or loves Crysis for some reason.

I don't like WoW, but you don't have to be a snob and put down other people to express your opinion. That's what makes the gaming community so negative and offputting to normal people. It doesn't need to be like that.

Exactly why I still have my launch Wii and the Wii u

Plus the Wii with can play gamecube games and Wii games at 480P with 3 color component cable which is cheap for the Wii.

Only original gamecubes could go 480P and the cable is stupid expensive because the decoder chip was in the cable not the gamecube.

There's that one guy.

The derp in this thread (basically just from one person, so it's not too bad of a ratio) is strong.

I've decided to shun myself for having disposable incoming and having a hobby like PC gaming, so I'll be ritually igniting my PC this week and basking in the holy grail of gaming goodness, that is the PS4.

Join me?

Honestly its the same shit then as it is now. "Blasting Processing" and all that.

People have short term memories on forums across the net it seems. I remember both Sega and Nintendo taking out ads that advertised things like "Blast Processing" and "Mode 7 graphics".

But since most of the kids arguing about the PS4 or Xbox One are a bunch of teenagers then its hard to expect them to actually do research on the argument at hand.

That's kind of funny because my main setup on the big tv is PS3, Wii U, Gamecube, and Dreamcast. I always have those hooked up. I think it makes more sense to go with a Gamecube and Wii U; negates having to own the Wii. Than again, your setup negates needing a Gamecube so I am not really sure which is best. lol. I think i'd rather go with mine. I actually like the form factor of the Gamecube. Looks interesting next to the other 3. Not sure if picture quality is any better playing Gamecube games on a Gamecube natively or on the Wii because of it's 480p output.

What? Did you even read the original post? Why are you so offended? If you feel the need to blindly justify your purchase because of a budget game like Resogun then so be it, but when you put it in THIS particular thread where it is totally the direct opposite of what the OP was talking about then yes, I'm going to call you out on it.

It's because you are taking this way off topic and I don't care for whatever your point is.
OP asked for an example and I gave him one. Stop thread hijacking, its rude.

Lol, I'm not hijacking dude. All of this talk about PC gaming vs Console gaming is hijacking. I'm right on topic.

Your example doesn't fit is what I'm trying to tell you. He wanted an example of a game that pushed past the bounderies of the current/past consoles, the PS3 and Xbox 360, making you buy a PS4. Resogun most definitely IS NOT such a game.

your experiencing precisely why i stopped participating in the console gaming forum. There are 3-5 individuals whos mission in life is to prove every single person wrong that does not agree with their opinion. One specific person I continually asked for sources, things such as poll data and i never received it. Gaming is Gaming, if someone enjoys games, then frankly you should be their ally no matter what platform because gamers have always been few and far between, although it is becoming increasingly more commonplace here.

I find it strange that it only happens in the console threads btw. I dont go to the Pc gaming subforums and see people say, your 5xx card blowsssssss my 7xx is soooo much better loser.

Every console launch has one of those demo games to show off the console, I guess that Firework game on the PS2 didnt push the boundaries of the PS2 ?

I am wondering if Kyle would pin a "Definitive Retro Gaming Thread" in this forum section.
Could use it was a place to show off collection pictures, discuss modifications, the all too important issue of hooking old systems up to new TVs and most importantly to reminisce on the awesomeness of years gone by.

I have never tried to get something like that set up here, is this a good idea?

That would be cool as long as it could stay civil. Retro stuff is always fun.

i wouldn't mind a retro section either. Been modding stuff lately and what not.

Well, having a dedicated thread for it would hopefully keep out the riff raff.

I'll shoot KB a PM and see if he tells me to Fuck off.

That's the effing point. While you're busy trying to be a smartass you unknowingly just posted what this whole thread was supposed to be about.

So tell us what the example game should be?
I don't understand what you are trying to get at here. Resogun is such a game, TO ME. OP wanted real world examples. Mine is one.
It runs at a butter smooth 1080p, 60fps, and pushes the polys damn good.
Resogun would be shit on last gen consoles. The real estate from the higher rez wouldn't be there, and it definitely would not be running 60fps without drop in detail. People can argue otherwise, till they see the game running and realize how much is going on at all times.

But who cares. I didn't buy it because performance stats and numbers. I bought it because I love that game and had to have it. I get a free controller to use on my PC, so there's a plus.

Resogun is a blast and (to me) totally worth buying the PS4.
I did not participate in the previous generation. (Had a Wii though)

Thank you, this is exactly why I bought an Xbox one, because I wanted one. I have actually found myself using it more than my PC which is connected through it to the TV. The voice controls are really cool and gaming on this machine is a blast as well.

If the only reason to buy a game console is for the games, I would not have personally bothered. (I have plenty of games I have not yet played on my PC.)
