New to this forum, but I have built several PCs over the past 10-15 years. I also do "hardware" and software support for all of the PCs in my family as well as for a few friends. Add 30+ years of sys admining on many different systems, and I have had my hands inside of quite a few different machine.

I want to build a SFF system, but I'm a AMD guy, so my motherboard choices are limited. I am currently looking at a ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 with some kind of a A10 CPU (wattage ?). Obviously I am NOT going to be using the system for serious gaming (onboard GPU only), although it will probably have a SSD.

The only case I have seen that I like are the HP Slimline S5xxx, with optical drive. I know I won't be able to use the bottom 2 (3?) slot because of the power supply, but am I likely to have other fitment issues ?

Any other SFF/uATX case that can be recommended ? Having space for a 2.5 SDD, a 3.5 HD and a 5.25 optical would be a bonus.

The new A10 Kaveri are using socket FM2+ so that mb won't work.

How small do you want to go? You posted an matx board but using integrated graphics you should be fine with an itx board.

Well, as liangr asked, how small do you want to go? mITX? mATX?

With mITX, you could go with something like the SIlverstone SG05:

With mATX, something like these two SIlverstone cases could do the trick:
$75 - Silverstone PS07B mATX Case
$100 - Silverstone TJ08B-E mATX Case

Also, what's your max budget for this new PC?

Those Silverstone case look nice, but I would like something smaller.

The mobo I am looking at (ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3) is a mATX but I would be willing to go to a ITX if it had a socket for AM3+ bus CPU chip. 2 memory slots should be enough.

As I said, I really like the size of the HP Slimline. If I could get one cheap, I might just swap in my ASUS mobo.

ODD is not mandatory, but it would be nice even if it has to be low profile.

Space for a 2.5 SDD and a 3.5 HDD is not mandatory, but nice to have.

Why that motherboard?
Why AM3+? Why not FM2+?

What exactly are you doing with this PC?
Also, please answer my earlier budget question.
