Apple’s iPhone 6 will reportedly surprise us all and launch this summer
http://www.unwiredview.com/2014/01/...lauch-in-june-5-7-iphone-scheduled-for-later/

A 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model enter production as soon as May, and launch in the following months, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will oddly not have a higher display resolution display. A 5.7-inch next-generation iPhone model that will launch later this year will supposedly get a higher resolution screen, however.

There is no way Apple launches 2 new iPhones in the same year, let alone 2 with major changes like screen size.

Your wife went through two units in six months because she drops it or because the kids are being given the phone and they drop it?

No, she dropped it. The kids have their own ipad minis in those foamlike cases that work incredibly well actually. No issues there.

I highly doubt Apple will ever release anything over 5" on iPhone. It will be a huge step back on their current development. The reason why Android phones are big is due to the fact that they cannot keep the iOS performance, and to get on that they have to get bigger battery for more power hunger CPU. Result is the bigger screen.

At the same time most manufacture are moving back to the smaller form factor, there is no way Apple would do the opposite of demand.

The 4" screen already blow out the one hand usage proposal by Steve Job, I highly doubt they will make anything like 4.7", especially with no resolution changes. The UI will just be plain ugly like most Android apps for the most part.

As an iPhone 5 user, I'd buy a 4.7 screen iPhone 5S/6 with no resolution change. I have an available upgrade to use on 6/1/2014, sign me up.

It's an analyst without tangible sources or a good track record... so in other words, the story is likely to be false.

There are very few analysts that have good insight into unannounced devices, especially when those devices are likely several months away from mass production. Even Ming-Chi Kuo, who's relatively accurate regarding Apple products, doesn't get everything right (and tends to wait until closer to the launch timeframe before saying anything).

It's not hard to know why they're usually wrong: they seldom have reliable sources at high levels, and those that are reliable are too low on the totem pole to understand the bigger picture. A factory staffer may know that Apple ordered a batch of displays, for example, but that person probably won't know the purpose of those displays or which other companies are involved. A textbook case is a claim from Shaw Wu that a larger multi-touch Apple device between 4 and 7 inches had moved beyond the prototype stage... in 2008. History proved him completely wrong, but he's still working as a tech analyst today.

I'm still inclined to believe that a bigger iPhone is in the pipeline, but that's because of historically trustworthy sources, the overall buzz and this being a major redesign year. What that size may be, we don't know. My hunch is that there will be one flagship device between 4.7 to 5 inches, and everything else will be hand-me-down 4-inch models. I wouldn't rule out bigger hardware, but it's better to be cautious and get a pleasant surprise than to get sucked into the hype cycle and face disappointment.

As of January 2014, nobody really knows what the next generation iPhone will be. Only the top brass at Apple themselves know. But it is fun to speculate :D

What are your guesses ?

- Will it be called iPhone 6 or iPhone Air ? I say iPhone 6.
- 4.5" to 4.7" screen or will they go really large to 5", or not at all, and keep the 4" ? I say 4.5" to 4.7"
- Launch date moved back to the old school iPhone release date of late June ? I say August.
- iOS8 a major revision with Widgets or Live Tiles added, or just more of the same ? Not sure.

To wrap this up, I expect the iPhone 6 will be released in August with a 4.5" screen, and descent update to iOS8.

While im pretty confident we'll get an iphone 6 with a bigger sceen this june/july im even more confident that it wont have the same resolution as the 5/5s. dosen't even make sense:rolleyes:

iPhone has traditionally been much more popular with women. It's also one of the few high end options left for those who for whatever reason want a smaller phone.

Both of which lead me to believe its highly unlikely that the next one will be >5". Most likely 4.7" with much reduced bezels, and since current iPhone has such a huge bezel, it likely won't be much bigger.

iPhone 6 Specs Seen as 'Locked In' with 4.8-Inch Display and 802.11ac Wi-Fi
http://www.macrumors.com/2014/01/22/iphone-6-80211ac/

Adding to a litany of analyst predictions pointing to a larger iPhone, Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company today claimed that the iPhone 6 will ship with a 4.8-inch display, a significant increase over the 4-inch display of the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s.

Citing sources within Apple's supply chain, Arcuri also indicated that the next-generation iPhone will come with the 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard that first began appearing in Apple products in 2013. 802.11ac, or "Gigabit" Wi-Fi offers speeds up to three times as fast as existing 802.11n wireless networks, reaching speeds over 1 Gigabit per second.

Echoing several other predictions about Apple's future in mobile payments, Arcuri went on to suggest that Apple will offer "key software innovations" in 2014 with iBeacon, Touch ID, and Passbook used as a mobile payment solution.

Aside from hardware tweaks and design changes, Arcuri also said that Apple is planning "key software innovations" with the next major release of its iOS platform. He expects the company will leverage iBeacon, Touch ID and Passbook as part of a push into new services with mobile payments.

So does this mean, we'll just get a 7th row of app icons only ? LOL

If Apple moves up to a 4.7+ screen, they need to drop their non-standard resolution and go with 1080p.

All Apple 'has' to do, really, is go with a 16:9 ratio, assuming it doesn't change things up. A resolution like 2560x1440 is also an option, among many others. I'm not sure what it would get by going 1080p other than getting perfect scale on 1080p videos; there are plenty of other factors it has to consider, such as browsing and photo previews.

I do hope they add more LTE bands though. The iPhone 5 seemed really impressive(my Verizon has tons of useful LTE bands). Hopefully they can have 7 with the US model this time. I'm really surprised that there aren't really phones that work in the US and Europe with LTE.

WSJ: iPhone 6 will definitely have a bigger screen, two new iPhones coming this fall
http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702304856504579338611620927036

It looks like Apple is taking a page from Samsung in more ways than one. According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple not only plans to release iPhones with larger screens but it plans to release two such models: a 4.5-inch model and a 5-inch model. Apple has been slower than other manufacturers to release a smartphone with a display of five inches or greater, it looks like the company has finally decided to stop ignoring the ever-growing “phablet” trend.

In addition to reporting about the new iPhone 6, the Journal reports that Apple has decided to scrap the colorful plastic casing that it introduced with the iPhone 5c. Instead, the Journal says that both new iPhones released this fall will have the aluminum casing used by the iPhone 5s. Many reports have indicated that the iPhone 5c has been a disappointment in terms of sales so it looks like Apple is taking a different route when it comes to releasing a cheaper version of its flagship smartphone.

Sweet. I definitely prefer aluminum/metal over the plastics.

iPhone 6 design said to be finalized, bigger 4.8-inch display
http://appleinsider.com/articles/14...ign-locked-down-with-48-display-80211ac-wi-fi

Much of the mystery was attributed to the fact that Apple was testing iPhone 6 designs with a few different screen sizes, but now Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri says all that testing has been completed.

In a note to clients on Wednesday picked up by AppleInsider, Arcuri stated that the iPhone 6′s design has been “locked down” and the phone will feature a 4.8-inch display. The analyst also says that Apple’s new iPhone will support faster 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity, and that Apple is planning ”key software innovations” in iOS 8 that will be a big focus on the new iPhone. That would certainly be fantastic news, considering iOS 7 was all about renovation rather than innovation.

I wonder if being able to put in more RAM or other hardware components is the chief reason behind the move to bigger screen size, not "market demands."

I'm very considerate of this iPhone if it had that screen size and resolution.

The contradicting rumors are why you have to be very selective about who you trust. I'm pretty sure the Cowen and Company analyst either has dodgy sources or is pulling figures out of thin air. Remember, analysts are the sort who'll blame reality itself rather than their own bad estimates.

If the WSJ is right (it's at least better than the analyst guesses), that's good news in more ways than one. The enthusiasts get their big-screened iPhone, of course, but it would also mean that the mid-range would still be nice. I can picture it effectively being an iPhone 5s with a slightly larger screen. That might not include a resolution increase, but it'd still be a step up. And a free-on-contract 4-inch iPhone 5c would be about right.

I doubt Apple will support widgets soon. Why not? Dashboard isn't a prominent feature in OS X anymore. It seems Apple doesn't have a widget-vangelist to push the feature.

And there are still more important things to fix like Maps. If I had to rely on Maps I would have missed famous landmarks in Italy.

The fact that google maps isn't integrated anymore doesn't bother me, if I go back to using the iPhone I'll put up with the slight agitation of having to use GMaps over iMaps.

It's 16:9, just saying.

If you are referring to the current iPhone screens, then technically no, it is not 16:9. 1136/640 = 1.775, while 16/9 = 1.77777...

My first ever smartphone was the iPhone 4S. The main reason I switched to the Galaxy Note 2 was screen size. Another reason, though, was that Apple did not put a standard resolution screen on the iPhone 5 -- I was hoping for a 4" 1280x720 screen. (I wanted to get the perfect scale on 720p videos, about 95% of my video collection.) Strange, I know, but I'm sure I have OCD. /shrugs

This probably won't happen, but if Apple did do this, I would consider switching back to iOS (even if the screen is 1080p instead of 720p). I do not favor one platform over the other -- I have a Galaxy Note 2, but I also have an iPad2 from work.

I'll say this: it's easier to have a higher resolution display playing lower-res content than the other way around. Given that 2560x1440 screens (or something in that ballpark) are likely to be pretty common among flagship in 2014, you may have to get used to that.

New report claims to reveal almost every last detail about the iPhone 6
http://bgr.com/2014/02/03/iphone-6-specs-leak-kdb/

From the looks of things, the biggest difference between the standard “iPhone 6″ and the 2014 iPhone model that will climb into phablet territory is in fact that display size. According to KDB, the iPhone 6 will sport a 4.7- or 4.8-inch screen while the larger iPhone model will pack a 5.5-inch display. These screen sizes are exactly in line with earlier reports.

The firm notes that the iPhone 6′s display will sport full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) while the phablet will reach into 2K “quad HD” territory (2,272 x 1,280 pixels).

Elsewhere, the phones’s specs are seemingly quite similar and also comparable to the iPhone 5s. Highlights include 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB internal storage options, 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 3.2-megapixel front-facing camera and a 1,800 mAh battery. KDB also expects Apple’s 2014 iPhone models to be powered by a 64-bit A8 processor, of course.

Finally, the note states that Apple’s new iPhones will debut in either the second quarter or third quarter this year.

Shouldn't this be approaching 3000mAh by now? The Droid RAZR MAXX, G2 and Note 3 (probably a few more too) have considerably larger batteries in them - last year. I am really looking forward to the iPhone 6 but was hoping for a much larger battery this go around.

Battery life is more important than battery size. An iPhone won't beat a Droid MAXX, however they are better than a lot of Android phones with larger batteries.

iOS is much more efficent with battery managemant than other OSs

I really want to see what Apple can do with a larger battery. If it can get decent runtimes out of a ~1,500mAh cell, it should get exceptional battery life once it has room for a significantly larger cell. That's also excluding any efficiency improvements that might come with the screen (say, by going with IGZO) or a new processor.

This was the case before 4.2 and WindowsPhone 7.5

No it's not..

It is still the case even after all the kitkat updates. Take a look at how many people raging about Google Services battery drain on latest update.

There are couple problem with Android. Google actively scan and using your phone as a data collector, it drains battery like mad. On the other hand, its still running VM, which it required powerful CPU to operate at the same level of iOS, at the same time it needs bigger battery. The battery problem will never be solve for Android, especially the one with Google Services.

Go to an Apple forum and you'll get endless complaints about battery life too. Pick any phone, and there'll be someone complaining about battery life.

The battery problem has been solved, my G2 averages 0.4% idle power drain with phone radio and wi-fi on. Or if I heavily use it, I'll get over 10 hours of screen time in a single day.

Even with smaller battery phones, the HTC One I used did around 0.5% idle power drain or 7 hours of screen time.

I have been using numerous of phone daily and testing. iPhone is the only one that can last longer than any others. Those who were on Apple forum complaining about battery problem usually are having defected Battery with iPhone 4S (It's a known problem).

I have to call you bullshit on HTC One idle for 0.5% idle power. I have one right next to me and it got nothing install but still drains battery once you connected to WiF without turning off the cellular. It drains about 10-20% a night without doing anything. The G2 on the other hand has a aggressive throttling to keep the battery longer, but still do worse than a iPhone 5S.

20% a night idling is indicative of a misbehaving app.

I doubt it, I've never seen an iPhone come close to the battery life of the G2.

I doubt it, I've never seen an iPhone come close to the battery life of the G2.

It's not that every phone has complaints, it's about what kind..

10-20% idle per night is not a indication of misbehaving app, I have install BetterBattery + GSAM to find out what was going on, apparently it's all related to Google services, Android Kernel. I have tried this on GS3/4, HTC One, Nexus 4/5, G2, Asus nPFI. All of them have the issue. If you never seen an iPhone come close to G2 battery, you must have not use the newer iPhone.

Not so much about software anymore although Google does have many more background services. It all lies within the hardware.

Remember iPhones run a smaller screen, lower resolution, much harder restrictions on radios, and a low speed dual core cpu (I say low speed because it runs at almost half the mhz of a SD 800).

The os is tuned to specific hardware, specialized drivers and incredible standards on software.

It all adds up. Sure they could use a bigger battery and blow away the G2 and note 3 but they don't have to and it would change the dimensions of the phone.
