KiLLeR System UnLeaSHeD!

You know some of the comments in here have to be from teeny-bopper punk kids. Some of you commenting on running up a credit card should know you should only use credit when you can afford what your going to buy. Learn how to save and enjoy the times when you can afford things you really want. Most teens and even college kids today have no clue about how the world works, or working for anything. They know how to text, write stupid comments that don't help anyone and how to not find a job... I read comments like that and laugh as I see your generation fighting over all the cashier jobs as you move back into Mom and Dad's house after college. If your not going to post anything helpful then F$%^ off.

wow... the monitor is in a way, the most important piece of a computer. It doesnt matter how great of a system you have if you dont have a monitor to take full advantage.

I was waiting for the newer monitors to come out to see how they impact gaming. I bought these because overall you have great SLi gaming and 30" monitors are great for everything. However, if you have other monitor suggestions...bring them forward...

it wasnt directed at you but the person I quoted saying :who cares its a monitor".

Facepalm...first of all my post was directed at Iching and the other person bitching about OP having a 2006 monitor and not a current gen one, if the OP feels justified about having a 2006 monitor then so be it, unlike the rest of the components of a PC, monitors don't get outdated that fast with new features added here and there they all do the same thing so I don't know where the fuck you got the idea from by quoting my post saying no matter how great a system you have if you don't have a monitor you can't take advantage of it ~ no shit!...

That rig does earn you some bragging rights, please don't abuse them.

Having a title of "KiLLeR System UnLeaSHeD! ROAR!!! MO FO'S!!!" makes you sound cocky.

Anyway, be sure to post some pics when you're done building it!

Thanks and sorry about the funky title, I had a few 18yr old scotches in me at the time :D

Will do on build posts... just had to change out the Ram as G.Skill recommended the Ripjaws Z Series over the Trident X because of my processor and board selection...

Everything's really nice but why Bose? Overpriced significantly.

Oh Man... I've had the AM7's for over 10 years lol... just never upgraded..but they do sound awesome...I'm talking the original AM7's... I probably will update them when my receiver dies.. but in the small room I have everything in it works out well. Or I will go to headphones.

So OP what do you do on your PC that requires so much ompphh?

Photo processing from large cards with Lightroom 5. Video editing eventually, games like Far Cry 3 on the 3 big screens, some other games like Diablo III and POE (Path of Exile). I want to future protect it for at least 3-5 years. I also use it for work, its cool to pull a big spreadsheet across all 3 30" displays lol... but seriously its very helpful because I can then read the entire spreadsheet without scrolling. And lastly, because I've had underpowered pc's for many years and really want something that cooks.

going to rate this 3/10 for:
a) overkill PSU
b) velociraptors
c) bose
d) no keyboard, no mouse?
d) lol, bose

I agree with regards to velociraptors and bose. Otherwise, it's a dream system

Yeah had a suspicion it was something along those lines otherwise some of us here thought you were some punk ass kid with mommy's money on a spending spree to brag about his new uuber gaming pc. Nonetheless impressive setup but you need something bit better than Bose for the audio setup lol.

Thanks, what would you think would be a good spinning drive you would recommend ?

Maybe it's just me but I see no use for anything but ssds and big data storage drives. In my sandy bridge build (retired now) I had an intel ssd for boot and an intel ssd for steam games plus a wd 2tb storage drive. My current gaming build is a 250 gb ssd (840 pro) and a seagate 2 tb 7200 drive.

My htpc has an ssd (seagate 830) and four x seagate 4tb 5900 nas drives (which replaced 4 wd red 3tb drives). Typing this out, seems like I'm always buying and selling hard drives. Weird.

Anyway, Maybe it's just me but I think ssds these days are fantastic and do whatever you need unless you need 2 tb or more for a storage drive

The Velociraptor is the fastest mechanical hard drive you can buy and they are enterprise grade drives to ensure extra reliability.

A 600GB VR can be found on ebay for less than $60.

They also look cool to boot.

WD Blues are plain horrible.

Never had an issue with my Blues, only with the regular caviar drives. Had two of those fail. Upgrading to WD blacks for big storage, drooling over a 500gb SSD for games:D

I've had over a dozen 1TB and 2TB Blues fail on me over the past few years that were used in RAID10/5 and 1 setups for various data redundancy, from the platter motor not spinning up to clicking noises from the reader head inside, WD Blues never again.

Have good experience with Blacks and Greens though as well as regular Seagate Barricuda's.

Toshiba 2.5inch and WD Blue's belong to my shit list in terms of reliability for all I have experienced.

Get rid of the velociraptors, they are noisy and not much faster then other drives. Raid a few 2-4tb drives for faster storage with significantly more capacity. If I was building a dream machine I would get at least a 512GB SSD, I have a 256GB in my less than dream machine system. Remember, games are big. I would also recommend going for some real speakers, if you have room for a 900d you have room for some real bookshelf speakers and a proper sub.

First off why the hostility? You could have replied different and not been an ass.

Second: Look how broad your original statement is. You said nothing about it being a relatively recent monitor that still was half way decent. You flatly said "Who cares, its a monitor." Which is ironically the attitude most people buying/building computers have. They never think about how important the monitor is. So "No shit" sherlock, it could be taken that way.

Third: He did over exaggerate the title and they were just pointing out that he did have one piece he hadn't said anything about.

Either way to OP: It is a damn nice system. and reminds me of the time i had the beast system compared to everybody else. Though back in 1997 pc technology was ramping/changing way faster then now. So my system wasn't too impressive in a year. This one will still be pretty decent in a year.

Neat. Both close and far from what my own personal "ultimate" build would be. Awesome for you for being able to put together your dream system. I think the 4960X vs 4930K will be a waste after the "honeymoon" wears off, but just call me "jelly" and enjoy if you have your heart set on the 4960X.

Curious, what are the Raptors for specifically? I can see a few Raptors being a good choice for fast scratch space where an SSD isn't strictly needed. But I think I'd go for either standard 7200 RPM SATA drives in RAID 0/10 or a single larger SSD (like the m500) myself in that case.

I've been enjoying my WD Reds in Raid 10 for bulk storage, if you're just overkilling with the Raptors for that purpose. They're pretty fast for sequential reads and really cool/quiet, which is high on my priority list. I'm guessing that's more what the Drobo's purpose is for you, though.

Improving your sound setup can be a whole extra can of worms. If you already enjoy your Bose setup, just use those until they die.

OP you're demeanor is 95% of why you're getting ragged on. You come across as a braggart douche with the way you're saying things; also you're flat out attention whoring. People are giving you legitimate advice and you're rejecting it saying they are distracting from people giving you attention. Whether you are or not is not relevant if that's the general perception from most people, you're going to get treated as such. If you wanted attention you should have built a sports car not a computer. Hardforum is about being hardcore into computers sure, but a lot of what your build kind of says is you just threw money at things. That and the whole attention seeking thing just cements that.

Calling people punks and trying to say that those who don't like your atttitude can't afford nice things is completely ignorant. I could easily afford to go drop cash on what you have in your rig, but it is not necessary for the things I do with my system; diminishing returns essentially is the way I see it.

That aside I am curious how the 4960x does for processing large raw files in LR5. I have a D800 and I process my raw files with my 3570K, and it performs pretty well. The only time I'm ever waiting is doing a lot of preview rendering for huge imports of a lot of files.

What do you actually do with your computer?

EXACTLY this. This post sums it up totally. And I really hate to say it OP, its a nice system, but there are much nicer. You don't see the people with much better systems show boating anywhere. They actually are respected on the forum. Just something to consider. ;)

Yeah, gonna have to agree here. Not trying to be a jerk, but your intentions are clear. On top of posting this in the Intel forum, ( which has nothing to do with your build except maybe to weed out the few AMD fanboi's that you do not deem worthy of seeing your build ) you don't even possess the parts yet.

Granted, you do have some nice hardware picked out for browsing excel sheets but modesty and heart is much more respected IMO. Mod you case and make this build your own instead of another Newegg wishlist.

Should have gotten a cheaper CPU and put money into a 4th GPU. I would have also gotten an Enermax MaxRevo 1500w unit instead of the silverstone.

I think getting a 4th GPU and cheaper CPU would be a worse route. CPUs definitely go a longer way than GPUs in 3x or 4x SLI/CF do in the overall scheme of things

You lost me at Bose and Drobo.

Everything else is gravy tho...

I'll +1 the Lsi 9260-8i

If he REALLY wants a good-looking NAS I would go for a Synology SMB NAS... Or a QNAP, like what I have, especially the Pro-series NAS drives.

Oh yeah, they are faster, too.

Vega comes to mind.

Except a 4930k would cost ~$450 less than the 4960x, be virtually identical to the 4960x, and have money to get the 4th GPU, which would probably do more than the 3mb extra L3 cache.

There is absolutely no noticeable difference between this model and its lower sibling, you are just losing a little bit of cache. Those GPU's wouldnt have to upgraded for at least 4 years if you really want to be realistic. There is no need to upgrade unless you want to keep up with marginal advancements. Plus there arent really any games that will kick a a computers ass that has high end quad setups, even years to come.

Interesting comments. I like to see the passion of opinions here. It's interesting to see how so many folks view system setups as being better in one area or another. And apparently you all hate Bose and Drobos lol...

nice build, only thing missing as far as I am concerned is a 2nd cpu

yes, motherboard to support a second one too, something like a Z9PE board, couple of 2670s, 64gb rams, bobs your uncle.

Which is good...you can add Dr Dre Beats and Monster to that list as well.

You both are kinda weird... I'm not hating on Cerulean man... I'm agreeing with most of what he is saying. As far as the title, it is a killer system in and of itself. Basically you all are talking about adding a bunch too it... and I like the 50ft bunkered man cave and ramen :D

I've wanted a system like this since I was a kid and now that I can afford something really nice I'm sharing it. I've asked a lot of people here for advice and recommendations and everyone has helped me out a great deal. So your pointed comments really are kind of weird and off color, probably trying to provoke and flame. People do that when they are either jealous or weird... I used weird because I don't know you. To everyone else, thanks for the help...really appreciate it.

Who on gods green earth recommended the Bose AM7? They deserve to be kicked in the face.
