Hi guys,

the monitor doesn't support anything higher than 1080p resolution with an HDMI. On my laptop I have a HDMI port, and a mini display port. Is there any way to make it work? I tried a miniDP to DVI adapter and that didn't work. HDMI will not project anything higher than 1080p. Any suggestions?

Thanks

^ It should. What laptop is it? I assume it wouldn't have DisplayPort unless it can drive 2560x1440.

well I heard something about the monitor not accepting any higher than 1080p from hdmi, but i don't know if that's the case with DP. It is an alienware 17

Displayport will work. Displayport to DVI should work, if it's to dual link DVI.

Hmmm, i guess the display port to dvi that I have is a single port. I'll try to get a DP to DP adapter tomorrow.

Another quick question, would it matter if it's mini displayport to displayport?

Thanks for the help guys

running higher resolutions is kind of the whole point of displayport. MiniDP to DP cable or adapter is fine, makes no difference, they are the same pinouts with a different shaped plug.

Most business and cheap laptops do support only 1080p/1200p with their displayport interfaces (like my HP Elitebook 8440p).
They probably have just wired laptop's HDMI-port to displayport, as most business users don't use 1440p+ monitors.

However, the 8440p with HP docking station can display 1440p and 1600p (have tested both) when using HP docking station's display port.
