NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Yes, the boat to the Netherlands and Germany left later. As you can see, Germany has been getting theirs; yours shouldn't be too far behind. It's possible they're already in customs in your country.

Possibly. Adamantium predicts if our cases are on the APL Paris cargo ship, then they arrive in Amsterdam on January 22nd. But if they are on the China Express then they could indeed have arrived in Rotterdam today.

the 120mm looks like this now : /

That's their standard 120mm filter, not the one designed specifically for the M1. Just wait until they have the order page for the M1 filters up.

oh ... ... I thought you used standard ones while prototyping :D

I mailed demciflex 11th november and got that answer "It should have been up by today, but they have asked us to hold on, as they would like to change the design of the filters a bit." ... guess a few more days won't hurt :D

Keep up the good work!

Can't wait for them to put them up ! I'm going to get one large one made for my PowerMac G5 mATX casemod too.

Hm... I just got this email from NCASE...

But I already recieved mine (#500)... does this mean there was a 2 for 1 special on the case and my other one is my post office!? :D

But yeah just pointing it out...

Thought I'd share a few mods I've made to my case so far..

1. Replaced feet with solid aluminium feet, same dimensions.
2. Replaced rear open grommets with closed.
3. Replaced every single screw to use A4 stainless 2mm hex socket head. (apart from m2 ODD screws)
4. Replaced Power/HDD button and fit HDD light.

Can't wait to order some Demciflex filters to finish.

My brother and I have both built pretty much the same machine. We may do a write up at a later date.

I'm still waiting for my case (OR, USA), and the tracking number is still stuck in Keelung, Taiwan. And I have not gotten that email yet. Weird.

Looks really good. Would you tell us where you both these parts, specially the grommets. Want to do that to mine. Thanks

I'd call your local post office asap, and see if they have it. Tracking number didn't update at all for many of us in the US until after the case was delivered, and think there were a few that never received notice of "missed delivery attempt" (case was at post office, but recipient wasn't notified of such).

Almost all of the US-bound cases should've been delivered by now.. might be a few still in transit from NJ?

We're not required to send back the extra unordered cases Wahaha sent us, right? ;)

Quick question for you peoples:

I have a non-blower style GPU cooler (Twin Frozr III). Will placing two fans below the GPU cooler interfere with airflow and raise temps? Stupid question, but I've never been in this situation before lol

Could definitely mess with the airflow, since the fans below the GPU fans would never be running at identical speeds. Not sure how that could effect temps though.

Some recommend using ducts in place of case fans below the GPU. If you do go with case fans, try different speeds and see what yields better temps (ie, slow or fast RPM).

My goodness!

I'm interested how you made and fitted that beautiful HDD light. It's the only thing missing from the M1... :p

I certainly don't expect it to cause temps to go up.

Maybe just my opinion, but I don't think the effect of having fans together is as bad for airflow as many claim it to be. The experiments that were conducted for having fans in close proximity were fans arranged perfectly over each other. With the different sized fans, offsets and completely different blade sizes, I do see interruption to the performance of the fan as an individual, but there should still be a net improvement in temperatures.

Potential loss
- Efficiency of each fan as an individual, compared to free air performance

Potential Gain
- Reduced recirculation of GPU exhaust air, due to localised positive pressure pushing away the hot air, and direct feed of cool air into the intake Area of the GPU.

There are many factors, such as having a large hub size blocking the GPU fan completely (as in my case when using Gentle Typhoon fans in close proximity to the asus DCII fans which are thin and small) so it is still safest to try it out and see what works or doesnt work in your situation.

I still saw a 5 degree improvement with the use of the GT fans, despite what the common thoughts seem to be..

According to guru3d the card draws 300W at max load, ~15W more than a 290X and ~30W more than a 780Ti. It will most likely work with the ST45SF-G but I don't suppose there are many that'll be comfortable with it.

But we're talking about a $650 card here that's not really faster than the 780Ti, and it only comes with 2GB per GPU. I don't think it's worth the price.

two my gentle typhoon 1850 fans made scratching noise when power on... I dont even see what it is hitting, could the bearing in side be damage? never had to RMA a fan before...

Thank you for the quick reply; I will take your advice.

Mine said that on the 18th of December then got sent off on the 7th of January that should give you the time frame it takes.

On 21 nov I got a mail that said "creating product". It has not been sent yet. I've sent a mail yesterday and got a reply from Steve at frozenq that they hope to sent the rest of them friday or monday.
I am lucky that my case is still on its way to the Netherlands and not waiting for a reservoir only :D

The gentle typhoon protrudes at the intake side, so if you attach the intake side to a flat surface, i.e. the bottom of the M1, the center of the fan will rub against the other surface.

Something like this if you absolutely refuse to take a stroll to the hardware store.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007Q94BMQ...UTF8&colid=2OJGG3SNKS1XQ&coliid=IECSKB0JZ66X0

Thanks! Stroll to local Lowe's big box is 20-miles out, and I can never find what I'm looking for.. I'll try there and Home Depot, and maybe the auto parts store.

Can't find anything online that looks as nice as Dstart's (most are too deep), but the Heyco Shorty plug might be close..

has anyone PM'ed dstart for what he used?, I don't want to be the 10th person that has :)

EDIT: Where can I get some nice M3 Black Nuts?

The switch used by dstart is a vandal switch. Modders have been using them for years to snazz up their power switch buttons. They have nice feedback when pressed, though I quite like the one already used on the M1.

Just look up "Vandal Switch" on your preferred watercooling/modding shop. Chances are they will have them, just be mindful that there are different sizes and if one doesn't fit stuck, you're going to have to modify the hole.

What diameter (mm) is the button anyways? I already thought of doing this but still don't have the case. My supplier stocks the Bulgin brand which I've used for a good 15 years or so both professionally and in mods. Never one failed and even the early ones still work to this day.

Don't know as I haven't checked myself, I wasn't actually planning on changing mine. Necere or someone else may be able to chime in with that information if they happen to know it offhand.

the weird thing is the bottom fans (set as intake) are ok just the two radiator fans aren't

and the radiator fan was set as pull. now when i took them out just fan alone both of them made scratching noise O_O when it try to spin it by hand there was resistance somewhere..

PP05-E cable kit finally in-stock at Amazon today.. only 15 left.

Got a set this morning.. now just need a damn PSU for them, lol.

Mdpc has them in batches of 20 but shipping kills it

There's 50 screws in a pack.

To soften the shipping cost per item, take the chance to get radiator screws, washers, cable clips, crimper, pins and sleeve as well ;) :p
