AMD Demonstrates "FreeSync", Free G-Sync Alternative at CES 2014

I would say the company who is offering a cheaper card that is as fast as card that cost $150-200 more is the better product.

AMDs cards are cheaper because they offer fewer features. They run hot, loud and suck a lot of power. Not to mention a spotty driver history. Throw in stuttering and other issues and it's plain logic why their cards sell for less.

No conspiracy theory needed.

If AMD could sell their cards for more, they would.

So features that 90% of the market wont use.
-They run 12c hotter then Nvidias offering, wow, so hot:rolleyes:.
-It has been pointed out by numerous people who own the cards that they are not loud unless you manually adjust the fans higher then stock, but keep spreading bull shit:rolleyes:
- They use up to 37 more watts then a 780ti, wow, that really is a "lot"
- Want me to point out Nvidias spotty driver history and issues?

You are exactly why Nvidia sells for more, you don't give a shit about performance, you give a shit about the brand and are more then willing to pay quite a bit more for bull shit reasons.

Fuck, I feel like an idiot falling for your bull shit trolling nonsense yet again.

Strange......The 280x in my computer is quiet (even at load), drains a decent amount of power and doesn't get hot (it usually gets to 60-66 celsius at load).

Are you saying I actually own a Nvidia card disguised as an AMD product!? What kind of trickery is this!

No conspiracy theory needed.

Seems like it! There's no way AMD produced this card.

Brand loyalty. Just like the pepsi challenge: most people prefer pepsi when tasting blind, but they ask for coke anyways because they form a bond with the brand. There is actually a HUGE sect of psychology devoted to the study of brand loyalty.

In small doses, it's generally harmless and understandable. If you have a positive experience with a certain brand, you tend to hold some allegiance to that brand. The PRIMEs and Loriens of this world just take brand loyalty to unreasonable extremes.

A paid AMD nut. Price to performance for AMD doesn't count anymore. Show me an in stock R9 290 that's selling for even 450$.

Don't cheap shoot u idiot!

Well.....I think this topic is done. LOL.

Which is the whole point of the exercise. Damage control in full force derailing any threads that might show nVidia in a negative light.

In the end it doesn't matter. We'll get the equivalent of GSync for free and you'll see the GSync tax disappear. Just like you saw the GK110 tax disappear when Hawaii came out. It doesn't matter though. It'll just be rinse and repeat with the next overpriced feature/product nVidia comes out with.

At this point, anything AMD puts out, even if it's free and cheaper, these trolls just come out of the woodwork. It's inevitable.

The ones that really make me laugh are the ones that defend Nvidia's overpriced videocards like the Titan when it first came out. If you take a glance at some of these stalwart defenders and their previous posts, they're using a 560 Ti or some other random mid-range card. Bunch of armchair enthusiasts.... their unwavering loyalty is scary.

Just because retailers are taking advantage of the current situation doesn't change the MSRP of the cards. While the prices suck right now for gamers, going off the price of retailers marking up cards isn't a good way to go about things since they are going to drop to retail and as history as shown, below retail soon enough.

There's a lot of controlled reviews that show noise dBa for various cards in idle or under load. The AMD offerings tend to run 1-3 dBa louder in idle, and 10-12 louder under load. The scale is something like 50 vs 62 at the top tier, and 40 vs 50 in the middle tier.

This isn't really an opinion from me either way, just pointing out that that point is actually legitimate. 12 dba in a bedroom or office is pretty significant, but you may get some muffling depending on your case construction.

The temperature graphs show similar patterns, with AMD running hotter. 12c isn't objectively a lot, nor is it not. It's 12c and that's all there is to say. It reaches equilibrium at higher temperatures, but the coolers are keeping it stable at that point, which is within the safety zone for the components. Although elevated temperature testing is a way to accelerate electronic component failures, there is not any data showing that running at hotter equilibrium temperatures results in shorter lifespans. I haven't heard anything about throttling due to thermal load.

Driver stability is completely subjective and it is unable to be argued these days. There is too much anecdotal evidence and there is no good statistical data. It's not worth discussing.

Also it isn't productive to suggest that the other users with different opinions than you are paid shills, are stupid for not seeing the way you see, or are trolling you.

People have different opinions on components because they value different things than you, or they perceive things differently. They aren't stupid, nor are they being manipulated. They simply have different values (drivers or price/performance or past experiences or innovation or openness, etc.).

Ultimately, as GSync and FreeSYnc have shown, competition is good and drives innovation to benefit the end users.

That is one piece of shit logic. If I were to buy a graphics card right now, according to you, I would need to wait till the mining craze ends see whether the AMD card dropped to it's MSRP.

Why not just get the best price to performance at the given time?

Your biases towards AMD clearly show up. You are just as bad as some of the NV fan boys that you so keep floundering.

Yes, Nvidia offer more features. Lets see what exactly.

Less vram.

Locked voltage (or almost locked)

Locked throttling BIOS

Locked power limit (or almost locked)

Great features i agree, or you mean shadowplay? omg such a useful feature rofl. Geforce experience? LOL software for hc n00bs. Maybe physyx, say what? one game with good implementation should be good enough right? Batman series, other are useless POS. What else? cuda? OpenCL - much better. What else does Nvidia offer? superior drivers? :D:eek:

If I was an AMD exec, I would be pretty sad that I engaged in a pointless price war with Nvidia when I could have sold out production on my lineup for months at $100-$200 more per card. It might have even helped with my negative profit margins! Instread, retailers, third party sellers, and bitcoiners got all of my profits...

But at least the enthusiast community thinks I'm nice. Woo?

The only problem I have with this post is that when it comes to sound, how close the mic is and what kind of test setup is being run greatly influence the results. That and look at how many "reputable" sites were running the card in quiet mode and then saying AMD cherry picked review samples.
I was looking at one site, Hardware Canucks. They said no such thing. Generally all review sites will measure sound level around 1m away, the typical distance between a home PC and desk chair. The sound level is near the level of normal speech, if that lets you imagine how loud it would be for different distances.

I don't know if you haven't noticed, but Prime1 is a troll and shill, go ahead and look through his posting history and continue defending him if you want.
This is my point. He has different opinions than you, and you call him a troll and shill.
I wasn't defending him, I was referring to people from both sides. Looking through his history, he likes to argue about it as well. You both put down people supporting the others products, and consider yourselves objectively correct. Consider how productive you are being.
