Hi,
I've just received this monitor and was quite surprised by the noticeable blue glow emanating from the left bottom corner when a black background is displayed. It is very annoying especially when watching widescreen movies with black borders when one side of the bottom border is constantly blue. It frightens me since my old cheap TN display with lower viewing angles doesn't exhibits this characteristic. Does anyone here have the monitor and suffers from the issue or is it a defective piece eligible for rma? Thanks

It's called IPS glow and is fully within specification, believe it or not. If you don't like that, you're gonna have to stick to TN or switch to VA panels.

To be sure though -- does this glow move and/or change shape as you change your viewing angle?

Yes it does, it practically disappears when looking at the monitor from the extremely bottom left. You say its within the specification but the specification doesn't say anything about the amount of this glow so it could practically shine like a rainbow and still would be within such specification. What's the point of viewing angles then? I've bought it because they are wider than of my old cheap one so I could get more consistent colors across the desktop and ironically it's worse now. I'd like to hear some owners of this monitor and what they have to say about it? Some photos would be ideal for comparison, I don't have a camera myself though...

Well okay, apart from the black one, the colors are fine. I didn't mean to bash the display so hard...

That's IPS for you. Example:

Take a look through that channel, you'll see plenty other IPS displays with the exact same issue.

Manufacturers lie their asses out all the time, don't be surprised. I was in your shoes several months ago. I knew what IPS glow is, but I everything I read made it out to be a small, negligible flow. Well. Go figure. I eventually ended up with a VA panel. I'm glad I did.

Unfortunately VA panels have allegedly these other issues like ghosting, gamma shift or input lag for a change which for me sucks as bad as glow since me like to play games. And looking around the Internet for IPS glowing issues shows similar problem to what i have in terms of intensity. The new VA incarnation AHVA looks very promising but almost no display have it so far and certainly not in a lower price range so fuck it - let's live next 5 years with a technology faulty in design, yaaay!:D

AHVA is simply AUO's name for their IPS technology. It's not the same high contrast/better blacks that most VAs panels have. And yeah, it also has IPS glow.

If you want a mostly glow free IPS/PLS screen, you may have to look at something like the Eizo 2736. But it'll be somewhat pricey.

Its an AH-IPS glow thing, I believe. You look at it from left you get a reddish tint and from the right a blueish tint. .. or maybe it was the other way around. Anyhow this becomes more prominent in corners and it tend to make things look uneven.
