Hello everyone,

This is my first post so please bare with me.

I have a Silverstone SG08 case which I love. I recently upgraded to a GTX 780 ti Superclocked. Everything is working perfectly except I can hear a small buzzing noise coming from the PSU under load. From reading, it just sounds like the fan is spinning up and maybe the bearings aren't quite what they used to be.

I've been looking into a replacement PSU, and I've read I need something of the size: 150mm X 140mm X 86 mm maximum. (does modular take up more or less space in one of these cases?)

I was thinking of 700W to be well into the safe side of things. ( I have a mild OC and corsair H60 cooling, 1 SSD, 1 HDD). Can anyone recommend a suitable PSU. Someone suggested FSP Aurum 700W. But they don't make that one anymore.

I think 600W is probably plenty...but I'd really prefer to be safe and have upgrade options with 700W or 650W.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Josh!

I'm curious why you went with a 600W PSU when the case came with one? I guess the one you have is Gold vs bronze in the case.

I just opened the case up again and realized you are right, I will likely need non-modular as most of the PSU back is blocked off by the vid card....I suppose I could re-orient a modular PSU so that they come straight out into other sidepanel?

Any thoughts?

No problem! Actually, I replaced it because I found the SilverStone PSU to be noisy, but I can't remember the specifics. That would be the idea with the modular version. If you only use the main cables in addition to just one or two peripherals you may have just enough clearance.

One other thing I forgot to mention is if you mount your 2.5" HDDs above the power supply, note that the cables on the FSP will not allow you to close the case. I eventually purchased http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A6GKENQ but no longer use it (HDDs are now mounted inside a converter in the 3.5" bay due to cable routing issues).

I'm also pretty sure the FSP has more cables to hide so keep that in mind! I doubt I would be able to fit the 5.25" tray without a significant amount of time and creativity haha.

Josh I'm curious how easily the new PSU (or anyone with experience) mounted in the SG08. Looking at pictures of it online, the case has screw holes in the bottom. Does the PSU need matching holes? Or are these for all the brackets?

Its been a little while since I last worked with it, however I'm fairly sure it used the normal screw holes on the PSU. The four on the bottom hold the bracket into place.
