I just picked up a original surface pro 128g for $599.99. I am in the tech field and usually buy the latest and greatest however the only thing I could find that was better on the Surface Pro 2 was the Haswell proc adding up to better battery life. I was going to get the 64g pro 2 at 899.99. I think the 300 savings was worth it because I got a two year warranty, office, touch cover and screen protector all for the same price the Pro2 would have cost me after taxes. What do you think?

I purchased a refurbished Pro and I don't regret it. The battery life is long enough that I can use it at TDMs and Court and not have to worry about battery life. The biggest question is how do you like it? Does it meet your needs?

Yes so far it does. I love how fast this machine is and the form factor. Literally pick up and go. I can see this being my go to device from now on.

I'm sporting a surface pro 2 with type cover. I love how I can get most things done on the road in a portable manner.

I'm still undecided if I should go with mine or not, been looking for a mobile device since September lol... :p

surface pro 2 adds a 2 stage kickstand :)

yeah really battery life or the new CPU instructions like vPro and such are the only compelling features from the refreshed version and then they are only compelling if you need those features

I've been rocking my surface pro since early last year and I'm pretty happy with it.

If I was you, it'd stick with what you have. It does the job and the improvements with the surface pro 2 seem very minor.

strongly considering a surface pro.. any limitations in your experience ?

None. Between the dell venue pro 11 and the surface pro the SP is the better device if you don't need the batrery life. For portability the venue pro wins but I miss the power of the SP.

no limitations thus far. Its a full blow laptop. The device was very easy to setup and connect to my home network and server shares. The app store is more than enough for me, but then again, I am not a huge app consumer. I love the portability of the device. Battery life is meh....but then again the charger is always near by so its not a huge deal to me.

the one thing that is bothering me right now is the fact that when I put pressure on the left hand side of the screen, I hear a crinkling noise as if the glue has come apart allowing for an air gap. Its a small section of the screen but it bothers the crap out of me. I have the extended warranty so I will probably take this in to the MS store where i got it and see what they say. I know it shouldn't be making this noise.

If you dont care about gaming its probably the best portable computer you can buy ( IMO ).

For it's form factor and size it actually is among the strongest in terms of GPU performance as it doesn't use an Atom or ULX processor but a ULV.

Just got a surface pro from work and I got to say its an amazing device. So portable like my nexus 7 but super snappy and a full version of windows makes it way more usable. I put a copy of world of Warcraft on my 32gb flash drive and my surface pro can play it just great. 30-40fps when set to the "good" preset which works fine for me. If I ever leave my job I'm buying my own as I'm extremely impressed by it. I love my gaming desktop but this is just a great portable solution.

Anyone using this as a desktop replacement? I currently have a mini-ITX system (H77 chipset, i3-3225, Radeon 7750, 256gb SSD, 1 TB 2.5" HDD, 8gb RAM) that I'd look to replace with the $599 1st gen Surface Pro with dock. I know the Surface won't be as powerful gaming wise. Biggest concern of mine though is the size of the SSD. Is 128gb enough? I'd keep my HDD, throw it in an external caddy, and have it connected to the dock via USB3.

With a 128GB Surface Pro, you'll have roughly 80GB of free space. Whether or not that will be enough space is only something you can decide. There is always the option of adding a 64GB or 128GB micro SDXC card at a cost of $1 per gig. It would be much more convenient than lugging around a heavy external drive and possibly loosing your data to an accident.

My mistake, I thought they had already hit the market but a quick google search says otherwise. No ETA or press releases regarding upcoming 128GB SDXC cards either.

Thanks safety. I found the same... I guess they had been announced a while ago and where meant to be released last year, but no dice yet.....

A SP1 with 128 gb microSDXC card would fit the bill for me. I wonder how long they'll be at the current price???

Picked up a surface pro 2 128 used for $800. Love the device. Could never replace my desktop though. It is a great device for playing hearthstone. lol

4ghz i7, gtx 780, 16 gigs of ram. I am studying to take VCP and I game at 1440p.
Honestly, if you had a dock, and did typical user stuff: email, internet, netflix, office, etc, I don't see why it couldn't be a desktop replacement.

Makes sense. I just uninstalled all my Steam/Origin games and the rest of my stuff takes up only 80gb. Might have to take a trip down to Best Buy and check this out a little more.......

Bit the bullet and got one. Unfortunately BB don't stock the docks, they have to be ordered in. Gonna try it out for a few days, can return it for full refund if I don't like it. Also going without a keyboard.... waiting for the Power Cover to be released. That should take care of the shorter battery life compared to the SP2.
