Hated this movie with a passion. I love the Amazon review "Take the Scientist's Survival Pop Quiz" so much requirement to suspend belief to even make this movie somewhat plausible. It's golden for the laugh factor and wtf is wrong with these scientists. But still, good price if your a fan of the series.

That bad, eh? I missed it in theaters and was hoping to snag a copy. If it sucks, I'd rather not.

Prometheus is not in the same league as Alien or Aliens but is not as bad as the haters make it seem...it gets better with repeated viewings...the 3D Blu-ray is worth it for the bonus content alone

I didn't think it was that bad. I enjoy watching it in 3D but not something you watch every month ;)

At the very least, this was better than The Core, 2012, and The Day After Tomorrow in terms of worse sci-fi films.

As a Alien franchise fan, I enjoyed it still but the logical scientific side of me found some faults with certain scenes. Then again, it is a sci-fi film and being fictional I have to forgive them for some failures in the movie. Of course, you watch the movie for enjoyment and seeing it as nothing but fictional. At least it gave some background to the Alien franchise, whether or not some of it is canon or true to the overall story of the franchise.

However, when a giant saucer-like UFO is coming down at you and you are running in a straight line in the same path as said UFO, you deserve to be killed. Ever heard of running to the side as fast as your two legs can get you to avoid a flattening death?

Also, the movie exemplifies the need of something like a Prime Directive-- "look but don't touch." Even in hentai anime, the female characters know well enough that anything that looks like a tentacle like that alien snake means bad things will happen. :p

Agreed. There are some nice deleted scenes on the Blu-ray that help the movie out a bit...I wish they would roll it all into one "Director's Cut", though, rather than just having seperate scenes.

I actually enjoyed the movie quite a lot, despite its flaws.

Movie was fine.

The movie went through a plethora of rewrites and reshoots, and it definitely missed its mark with most critics. It's maybe good as a drinking game at best.

However, gots to love me some Idris :D

I liked the movie quite a lot, IMO the biggest let down was the lack of scares when compared to Alien and it's sequel. I'm really looking forward to see what they do with the sequel and how they expand on this ideas presented on this "first" film.

Beautiful movie. Great soundtrack. But utterly baffling story and delivered lines in the movie... thanks to a former Lost writer.

"A billion miles from.." and such.

Still its worth it for Michael Fessbender alone and his David performance. Get this cheap while you can.

At least the cinematography and music was good.

I agree.

Music, definitely a plus.

Cinematography and scenes looked really good.

Michael Fassbender's performance, the best one in the film.

Cool visuals but the movie jumped the shark with the hero chick thing

They should have kept the writers original story for this one, because the in-shoot rewrites killed this for me. Just a few changes really would have helped this movie quite a bit, but it would never have been on the same level as 1 or 2.

They should have kept her in the med pod to heal and tossed the alien out. This would allow for the alien to grow and eliminate all of the red shirts while she healed. Also this would have helped her running around and jumping and shit with her abdomen sliced open.

There's a reason there will NEVER be a director's cut. Because it would be really bad. Watch the deleted scenes and you will understand.

The original writers were terrible man.

They had to edit as much as possible to make many things ambiguous because the explanations were laughably stupid.

This is how I felt, but man the story was one of the worst and was perhaps the worst of the Aliens Franchise. Ridiculous is the only way to describe the story and the actions taken.

A tree is falling on you, which direction do you run?
a) perpendicular to the path of the falling tree
b) parallel in the direction the tree is falling

Four out of five Prometheus scientists choose A.

But really, there's so much wrong I could rant on... but to avoid spoilers for the poor souls that don't heed our advice:

Europa Report had really stupid scientists and astronauts, too. Is Prometheus worse in that respect?

It wasn't Battlefield Earth bad, more like Battle Beyond the Stars bad.

the geologist getting lost in the engineer lair after mapping it with drones, and his buddy, the biologist, naively playing with an alien snake had me scratching my head, but no, they're not that bad. :p

the movie is a mixed bag; it leaves lots to think about (in a good way) and sets the stage for a sequel, but its attempts to build suspense, horror, and so on, fall short. I bought it at ~$15, and did not regret it, the image and sound quality are top notch and Fassbender owned his role. overall, I give it a "Like."

This movie is worth watching just for the visuals alone....trust me...yea it was kinda a let down compared to alien but it is what it is.....watch it with Smooth video project at high frame rate and be prepared for something very special on the eyes......I have watched it more times than i would like to admit to;) Just don't go in expecting it to be anything like alien was in the horror scifi department...but the way it ended the next one could be what we were all waiting for....since finally the scary alien we remember is born:) sorry for the tiny spoiler

Haha...my girlfriend just watched that the other night, and I watched a bit. Prometheus was WAY better.

I watch movies to be entertained and this movie entertained me so well worth a watch if your into sci fi movies in my opinion.
If I want harder science and bigger plots I read a book.

I kind of took it that they were kind of shitty because they were "merc" scientists per-se. They took for the job for the money, not for any sort of scientific interest since they knew nothing about what they were doing.

Wait, what? LOL! Europa Report, while hardly genius either by any stretch of the imagination, was no where near as bad as Prometheus, which felt like it was mocking your intelligence the entire film.

Its like the director was like, "LOL, those retards won't notice" for 4/5ths of the footage.

It had vapid characters but at least they ATTEMPTED to use basic scientific principles. I mean Prometheus actually acts like it follows basic principles of science until actual distances are mentioned then it goes into pure fantasy territory. I mean it even gives the mean travel time from Earth to the fabled planet then Charlize Theron throws that out of the fucking window referencing the distance to being the same as Earth is on average from Jupiter

I think Prometheus has beautiful scenery and well composed music and some decent characters (Naomi Rapace , Michael Fessbender) but it had some utterly awful/useless characters. It also had a good setup for an interesting encounter between two opposing canons of story line that have followed the well done movies in the overall franchise ( I don't care if Ridley doesn't think this is Alien canon .. it fucking IS).

*SPOILERS* *SPOILERS*

You should SERIOUSLY listen to the directors commentary for this movie , first off Ridley Scott is so hammered he spends the first 45 minutes rambling slurred words back and forth through nonsense THEN he gets angry about how the studio wanted him to focus his more messy shots and unneeded special effects and how he feels he deserves to do whatever the fuck he wants because of his career. Its actually both hysterical and sad because if you listen to his earlier commentaries they are much more bright and far more in depth. His Blade Runner commentaries are down right require reading for any film student. To think this guy created two of my favorite movies of all time (Alien and Blade Runner) has basically become a "two in the can" director saddens me.

But its also a bit of introspection into how much the script was rewritten and sat on for years and years. Its a miracle Prometheus got made considering its long history as nothing but paper.

If you take the movie at face value , as pure entertainment then you'll like it .. probably much more than it deserves. It has a few key performances but overall its a "pop corn" flick. The haunting soundtrack and overall atmosphere will stick with you (in a good way) but the awful script and baffling story line that leads to a pretty empty conclusion (minus the last scene which was the best in the movie).

And for those that already intend to buy this ( DO NOT WATCH IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE) and have a sense of humor I implore you to watch this : http://redlettermedia.com/red-letter-media-talks-about-prometheus-spoilers/

Made me laugh so hard.

The absolute greatest thing about Promethius wasn't in the movie. That part was the fake TED talk with Guy Pearce that was a trailer.
If that had been elaborated on I'd more than like. If the movie was like any of the trailers it would have been a better movie.

I'll agree with this. Those trailers had me super pumped for the movie

I liked this movie and I liked on the re-watch a little more. I really didn't feel the original alien series and I really think that was the disappointment for most. They probably could have left it on its own and not tied it in to the series. It did feel a little forced. I think it was moving away from that and so many aliens fans cried out in disappointment that they probably felt compelled to pay homage...

"The power of fans compels you..."

Bought and came in mail today with prime. Will watch this weekend in 3d for first time and will report back. ;-)
