Battlefield 4 **Official Discussion Thread**

I tried lightboost on my asus 144hz, went back to normal. The screen is simply too dark with it on, which is kinda ironic given the name.
 
I'm running Shiz's settings but at 2560 x 1600 with a single 780 and it runs great. I'm usually around 90fps with my monitor during hectic situations.

I am going to try that showmap setting later..and another upvote for the BF Settings app. It's extremely useful.
 
So I think I've decided I need a new monitor.

Everyone seems to love the BenQ's, does anyone have any other recommendations that are inexpensive?
 
Are you looking for TN or IPS? Do you want 120 Hz or are fine with 60 Hz? Monitor forums will help you much more than this thread.

I know but I'm scared to ask, I'll say "I'm trying to decide between A and B" and then they'll say Buy C D E F or G...

I much prefer IPS but I doubt it's in the budget. I have a 24" IPS monitor now so the real reason for wanting to upgrade is to try out this 120 hz haha

And that's why I don't ask questions in the monitor sub-forum. You ask a question and get 1000 different answers that just makes you more confused than before you asked.
 
i'm sure its been mentioned, but battlefield 4 is completely awesome and yet I can't play because its always broken. I'm thinking of trading for ghosts just so I can play something in the 20-30 minutes a day I have to play.. or is that one pissing everyone off as well?

I'll share my experience after being in the same boat:

After trying the infamous Viewsonic 27" IPS and the Asus VG248QE 144hz, I returned the Viewsonic. The 120 hz + lightboost Asus is honestly one of the best purchases I've made. If your computer can run games at 120 FPS then I would try it out. I immediately noticed a huge difference when I tried it back in BF3 days. If you're on a budget then that just gives more reason to get the TN over the IPS. The colors on the Viewsonic were much better than the Asus, but to me the fast refresh rate more than makes up for it. Everyone has their preference but to me the refresh rate was more appealing than better colors.

If you have a Fry's or BB near you, go buy the Asus if they have it in stock. If you don't notice much of a difference then they should let you return it. Hope this helps! Honestly though, this is one of those things you really have to try out yourself to see what you like better

Well I'm playing on xbox one and the servers are all full with 50-60-70+ queues. Quickmatch always fails.. there are empty servers, but I can't join them. Then if I wait in the queue after about 30 minutes it kicks me out of the queue. I haven't been able to play for about 7 days now.

I think that your problem is the game with the xbox. There are issues with the pc but that particular one is not something I have seen. Have you researched the issue? This is the PC gaming sub forum. Might ask over on the console side.

Yeah $270 is a quite reasonable price and luckily I'm 5 miles from a Frys and Best Buy.

I conveniently have a $150 store credit to BB that's been burning a hole in my pocket for a month so I might just have to stop by after work, grab one and fire up BF4 haha.

It also takes some time to get used to gaming at 120hz/144hz. Your eyes will need to adjust to it before you start getting better results in game. I had a friend that was always a 1.75 kdr player in BC2, BF3 and the beginning of BF4. He was using just a standard 60hz viewsonic, he then upgraded to a asus 144hz and reset his stats, 4 months later he has a 2.50kdr and he didn't change his gamestyle, he just got faster at finding and locking onto the enemy.

I personally cant stand 60hz gaming, when looking quickly back and forth it's just too blurry and hard to spot enemies. That faster refresh rate really helps you see soo much more, it's much easier on the eyes.

You'll have to be a little more vague if you want some advice on fixing whatever you feel is broken :) Though that word means different things to different people, and going by the battlelog forums for example, some people are just bad at the game and blame it on "bugs" and "netcode". I mean people get legitimately outplayed and its "netcode netcode" every 2 seconds on server chat windows. There are legitimate latency-related issues but netcode and "broken game" have become catch-alls for every time some people die now it seems.

FWIW, I haven't had a single crash in BF4 in several weeks now, even on maps like Shanghai that were a guaranteed soundloop crash prior to the early-December patch.

This, this and this. See my BF3 k/d with 60hz monitor then see my BF4 k/d with 120hz monitor. Same play style, same PC hardware. When I got my new monitor my k/d in BF3 was 1.74 and it topped out at 1.89 before I quit. My BF4 k/d is 2.18. It's amazingly easier to pick out enemies with faster display of frames.
 
Ordered a VG248QE to give LB and 120/144hz a try in BF4 and other FPS games. Still plan on using my u3011 for nearly everything else though. Won't be able to give it a try until late Friday/Saturday since I'm traveling this week.
 
Looking forward to your impressions skidmark. I've never tried 120hz or LB myself.

Also, I have come to the conclusion of what my my hated bug in the game is and that's the warning you get while being shot. In BF3, when someone was shooting at you, you had warning. There were hit markers and they actually worked.

I played BF4 for like 4 hours yesterday and there were dozens of times where I just died and then see a dude with an LMG or an assault rifle firing away from 75 yards. I know that they didn't ALL headshot me so they had to of been firing at me for a second or two and I got NOTHING. Biggest glitch in the game for me IMO. What a joke.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game, I have a blast but damnit I hate dying because of lack of hit markers. Had I been playing BF3, I could have lived maybe 50% of the time I'd guess.

Then look @ all the comments on Amazon and Newegg. The Asus has nasty PWM flicker (if this bothers you, the monitor will be unusable), terrible colors, and less brightness range. I got mine for $300 from Amazon. I think Tiger direct has it for $330.

Also, there is an improved Z version due out soon with built in strobing. That will allow for 144hz lb (currently, the lb hack limits u to 120hz lb). It should fix the color issues in Lb mode as well.

I need to try out this lightboost shit. Other than that 144 Hz or bust. I can't stand 60 Hz anymore. I hate Ubi for capping Ass Creed 4 to 60 Hz.

Lol, I would love to try light boost out but I am not going to buy separate monitors for work and play. I cant go back to less than 1440p. Hell my setup at work is better than what I have at home and I can barely stand what I use at home right now. Some one give me a monitor with at least 2560x1440 resolution, 120hz+ and IPS for less than 1.5k and you have me sold.

It's too late, but PWM doesn't bother me. I'll give it a try regardless; if it's really bad or unbearable I'll send it back to Amazon. Appreciate the info though.

I am waiting for that monitor also for past 2 years. Didn't happen so I ended up buying what I have. I don't regret it one bit and also the 3D is a nice touch that I would like to keep. Next up 1440P, 144 Hz, IPS, and 3D ready monitor and I will heartily pay 1.5K for it too.

Asus just showed this one for $800. "Very high quality" TN panel though and they explain why its not possible yet with ips.

a lot less crashing but other issues like the lol lag compensastion, ddos and rubberbanding, etc. you probably wont crash but may get ticked off for other reasons. plus the maps still mostly suck imo. I only think 3 are playable.
 
The maps in this game are mostly great. I only really don't like Siege of Shanghai and Dragon's Pass.

Lancang could use a re-imagining, but it isn't a bad map.

I love almost all the maps. I really don't like Shanghai either, it's my least favorite map. I LOVE rouge transmission and Zavod for most modes. Operation locker is really fun too with smaller servers.

So I'm new to FPS (relatively) I probably only have 300 hours in total for all FPS and one thing I've come to realize that also really frustrates me is d-bags who are in a conquest or domination map and sit a snipe the entire time and don't capture or really defend a falg EVER. I get when sniping is fun but camping on a roof just sniping anyone you see does NOT help your team very much. I like wining matches and I don't care that much about K/D when I'm playing conquest.

I managed to hit a guy parachuting last night with an RPG lol THAT is hands down my greatest achievement to date.
 
What if they dropped a radio on the roof of a cap? What if they are defending the cap? If they are not allies... Go support and air burst them. I don't get the angst against this game. I have mediocre hardware and have a blast playing it. If you have half a brain you can have a great time. It looks great and is playing damn good enough to warrant a purchase IMHO.

Siege is my least fav. As well. Too much ground to cover if you like to play inf. This dude last night from opposing team kamikazes the attack helo into the tower and parachutes out to cap. I steal the helo and he has his entire squad spawn in on him and I hovered and rocketed the entire squad getting a wipe. It's got some really fun moments.

I don't have angst, I LOVE the game. I'm having a blast. The issues I have are minor and I think just come with FPS style games.

The example with the snipers...I was squad leader, we had five guys, I was calling orders and three of the five squad members followed and tried to capture the tagged objective, the other knuckeheads were sitting on a roof no where near a flag and they were just sniping. They weren't sniping guys anywhere near the tagged objective, they were just playing the game like TDM. It's nothing to get terribly angry over, I just didn't really realize how some people hop in a game mode and don't even play the game.

Another example....I've been in so many vehicles where some guy just blazes through a neutral or enemy flag. Why not stop and get the points?? No one was around either, it's not like we were in danger.

Out of curiosity Rehab, what are your specs? I'm trying to convince a friend to join who thinks his 6850 can't handle the game.

Oh yea, I didnt mean to direct the angst comment towards you, that was in general relating to the theme of this game. I completely agree with you on the gametype not driving peoples server choice. My biggest pet peave...and it has been since way back...Why dont people spot? Its a simple tap of Q...that simple tap can make the entire round.

I play on mostly high with some things turned off. My CPU shows its age when the tower falls on Shangai, other than that its really good.

Anyway- my specs:

i7 860 @ 2.8
8GB 1600
250 ssd
650w corsair
gtx780 - this I only added last week. I was playing on a 660ti.

My buddy plays on a gtx580 and an older AMB Phenom 2 x6...granted its on a low/medium mix but it plays fine. The 6850 may struggle when comparing the 580 to the 6850, the VRAM being an issue. I bet it would play on low though.
