I'm trying to help a friend who is building an iPod into his dash of his car. We are running into an issue of the audio trying to output via the lightning cable that is power only. We have a 3mm headphone cable to RCA that is going into the stereo equipment for the audio.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Might be a way to disable audio out over lightning and force it over 3.5mm (especially with a jailbreak), but once you have the 3.5mm plugged in it should automatically switch to that- regardless of what cable is plugged in.

Is the usb power source a aftermarket headunit? Try just a normal cigarette lighter charger.

I'm going to try just using a normal car charger on it and doing a few test. The aftermarket cable that was being used looks like it also tries to accept audio via the lightning adapter.

Yeah just use a normal apple lightning cable to the car charger that accepts usb to test then when you get it working you can try other cables.

I have had my 5 phone (lightning) plugged into the DC outlet and a headphone jack going to a head unit before with no problem.
