is there any real solid pc games out there with replay value?
im downloading dota 2 right now, my friend and i are looking for a co-op game. we tried orcs must die and payday 2. beat em, or got tired. guess its because we are the diablo 2 generation/quake2/q3/unreal ect, seems like games just dont have a great replay value or we just got old lol

anyone got suggestions? diablo 3 he hates, and i got tired of. just not the same, SC2 gets old after a day of non stop playing.

Your just growing up and possibly growing out of gaming. I would recommend taking a break for a while(few months) and come back to it. You might appreciate it again.

SC2 gets old after a day? You better take a long break if that's the case.

sc2 is a great game, but i think i play to many use map settings games lol... like the nexus map

While some are not only PC games these have or will have given me more then 200 hours.

BF3, Dark Souls, L4D1&2, and LOL

Prepare your anus if you're new to DOTA.

Also I bought starbound and it's pretty fun so far.

+1 for DOTA 2you and your friend should practice against bots for a while before playing online against human opponents. The game is very fun and a great challenge and replay value is through the roof, plus the game is free.

I've been having a lot of fun in Planetside 2 lately. Defiantly a game everyone should at least check out. The scale of the battles is unlike any other game I've seen and it's F2P.

just looked at a video for that ^^^ ermergerd im gonna be trying that game out

So based off that list of games you mentioned you like, you like old tired PC franchises. I can surmise that basically you are entrenched in the old ways of PC gaming and not have not really adapted to the platform as it has certainly evolved over the last 10 years.

Games like Brothers : A Tale of Two Sons and Gunpoint, indy style games are so far better than everything you listed. The industry grew up fast, AAA games got milked and many franchises are just tired and the younger consumers with money in hand demand more than what us old guys wish we could play forever. You have to remember that with every day, more younger consumers are entering the market and slowly you have been breed out.

The days of PC only games are still here but its never going to be what it was 10+ years ago. Its bad business, instead the gaming industry is now larger than the movie industry. This is largely due to publishers getting their games on as many platforms as possible. So that means console ports, most eh, some fairly good actually. In addition, the market is so big now that smaller studios find themselves in the fray, and not just crap games either. Like I mentioned above, Brothers ... a game that many reading this now are like "oh that one cheap indy game on sale on steam yesterday?", is at the top of most review sties GOTY awards.. and for good reason. Unfortunately, the PC gaming crowd probably largely over looks titles like this, because many of the consumers here are like you OP. Waiting around for the next Diablo, Quake, Starcraft, or Warcraft game.

Those days are just gone, looking at all of these franchises now seems so exhausting. I would hate to find myself in a world where all I play are the same games over and over and over, fast forward a decade.. and over and over. So how to fix this? Simple.

In addition to what you're already doing, branch out on your own. Keep doing the co op thing with your buddies, but on your own you should start exploring other games out there. New experiences, new genres, new platforms even. Find that love for gaming you so eagerly want to revisit.

You are not going to ever find that love in a Quake, Starcraft or Battlefield sequel. Its buried out there in something untapped, you have to find it. This entire post might sound corny, but I was in your shoes not too long ago. Now instead of being a staunch PC gamer with similar mindset, I own my PC, a WiiU, a 360, and a 2DS for my son. I spend ~60% of my game time on the couch with my wife playing Mario of some sort, drinking and laughing. Or I play with my son, or sometimes when everyone is in bed I play on my PC, some BF4, some world of tanks, some Brothers. I found that love for this hobby all over again when I finally went down this path, best decision.

Variety is the spice of life, let go of your tired old tastes. Branch out man, do it!

This , seriously this. All gamers once they reach true adulthood start to have to divide time and tastes among other interests or life obligations.

Just begin to accept a slower pace and start to understand the change in your own habit. Don't over analyze it whatever you do. Gaming shouldn't be forced it should be desired.

i put tons of hours into dark souls. the game is difficult, that makes it enjoyable to replay and assign challenges for yourself

I feel the same way, OP. It's funny because I have Mass Effect 3 on PC but only played the first hour. I bought it 2 days ago for my Wii U and have been enjoying the hell out of it. I'm honestly at the point where it's hard to sit down at the computer desk and play. Much rather sit on a nice comfy couch reclined with controller in hand and play. I've been gaming for over 20 years now and maybe it's just me getting old, but sitting in my office chair and playing games is so unappealing. The only trade-off is the control which is not as hard as I thought it would be, but definitely takes some getting used to if you've been playing on PC for a while like I have.

It's a welcome change of atmosphere. And with the Wii U it's kind of neat in that like when my wife came home yesterday I was deep into the game and did not want to stop but she wanted to watch Netflix. So I turned the input of the Tv over to the PS3 with the Wii U gamepad, she started watching netflix, I plugged my earphones into the Wii U gamepad and continued playing Mass Effect 3 using only the Gamepad. That was one of those this-is-cool kind of moments for me.

Hopefully EA gets back to releasing on the Wii U eventually, and hopefully in 2014. I would love to play Mass Effect 1 and 2 again. I may just buy the trilogy on PS3 to do that. The Gamepad on the Wii U is really useful though in Mass Effect 3 with the glance-at map and quick access to character abilities during combat.

Anyway, the only thing I can suggest is to find yourself something new. I don't game 90% as much as I used to 5 years ago, but I find that when you go a while without it and come back to a game it feels a lot more fulfilling than hopelessly scrolling through a increasingly large Steam backlog with no motivation to play any of them (even though you keep buying games). lol.

Try World of Tanks, it's free, you can grind to the highest tier (10) without spending a dime, platoon with 2 friends.

If you can handle DOTA2, you can handle some Dark Souls.
But, if you REALLY get into it, your life will be consumed. Like my friend, who's highest hour'd game on steam WAS Skyrim, with 120something.
I got him into DOTA2.
I dont even play anymore. I got 170something myself....

As of today, he has 1779 hours of DOTA 2.

Maybe, this is exactly what you need.

will try out world of tanks, issue isnt really playing at my pc, i actually prefer the screen in front of my face when i play fps games, i seem to play better instead of a huge tv. the thing is that, games don't seem to hold the same replay value on computer as they used to. i cant remember the last PC game that held my attention for more then a few weeks besides diablo 3 which was only a few months before i grew tired of it. wanted to play simcity so bad, read the reviews and steered clear of it, i think it just a lack of quality games being release for pc

im borrowing my brother in laws xbone while he is away at work, honestly turned it on once to play deadrising 3, thought i would have enjoyed it way more but lost interest after the first boss for some reason, he has bf4 on it, but i absolutely cant stand controllers for fps games, until there is a XIM unit for it ill play and probably be happy again lol, the XIM on the 360 and i would play black ops 2 all day. i love racing games, thought about getting forza 5, but after reading about micro transactions, i got disappointed
i thought about getting Wii U for mario brothers game, looked really fun

This is why I only play Civ V, Sim City 4, Total War games, The F1 games, and games like Prison Architect and Kerbal Space Program. Too old for the hack and slash shit. Even Skyrim feels like a chore to play. Barely interests me anymore. The last FPS that held my attention was COD4:MW.

My PC is loaded mainly so I can do work/study, and the great for gaming is a by product of that.

I've been playing my Wii U regularly since getting it and it's been a blast. Super Mario 3D World is amazing and rekindled my love for platformers and Nintendo. Also, if you missed out on all the Wii games (like i did) then you can play those too like Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and lots of others. I feel like the closer I approach 30, I am enjoying more casual games like Mario and Zelda. I've always loved them, but never was impressed with any of Nintendo's consoles since the N64 to give a shit so I forgot about them but I realize now there is plenty to love and a lot to catch up on.

I still play regularly on PC still. Lately i've been playing Dead Island here and there, but mostly I go straight to my couch and Wii U. Not to mention, I forgot about the virtual console games on the Nintendo eShop. I downloaded Super Castlevania 4 and have been playing that a lot too. Pretty damn cool you can create save states just like on a Pc emulator.

I agree with the above posts. As you start to get a little older gaming might not be as appealing and/or doesn't take priority like it used to. Other things take up your free time and don't allow for as much time to play.

Like already stated, try taking a break or checking out some new games to see if any pique your interest. For me, gaming comes in waves. I sometimes don't play for months and then I'll play a newly released game for a week or two and really enjoy it.

Guess Im in deep trouble then Ill be 63 in july. Been playing games since pong.. and until I go blind or no longer have use of my hands Ill still be playing games.

Big thing I find is rotate your games.. Ive failed in this in that I have over 2,000 hours in Skyrim. and about 40 games I havent even looked at.. soon, very soon.

just brought UT up.. over 100 servers in Deathmatch alone... indeed UT hasnt gone anywhere..

I don't really see how the old games you mentioned have any more replay than any modern equivalents. I think you just have the "pfft, kids these days " mentality going on.

People will play them until the network protocols they use simply no longer exist. It's kind if funny, but it's true.

There are people who still play Doom competitively.

I agree with the other posters, take a break. I think it's not necessarily only about getting older. While that is a factor, everyone just gets sick of things over time, even the things you thought you loved. I find my hobbies range quite a bit, and like the seasons, are cyclical. Every few years, I am a gamer that can put hours into many games, then there will be times where I just can't get into any game no matter how good.

This is the same problem I have only the game I end up getting locked into is usually a MP game like BF3. The best thing I have done to avoid this is dedicate 1 or 2 nights a week to playing SP games to try and work through my backlog. So far that's working out really well other than a lot of the games in my backlog are total time sinks like Dark Souls and the Fallout games.

At 33 I can sometimes find myself playing games for months on end then suddenly stop for a month or so. It also depends on what time of year it is (Sept through December is the heavy period for gamers) and what I'm dealing with in real life.

For instance if I have a lot of stress going on I can't play many games as they end up just stressing me if for instance the challenge is higher than average. In that case I'll replay something that I find relaxing that allows me the distraction I still need to unwind. Platforming games are off the table when I'm stressed because they require more concentration while FPS require in general the least amount of concentration (at least for me).

I'm guessing I'm about the same age as the OP, I'm 27. I feel the same way. I think it is a mix of nostalgia and the fact that there wasn't near as much money in video games back then. Meh....

While there are still a good bit of people that still play and a good number of servers still being hosted, it's simply not the same anymore.

I disagree. Its changed but there is still many great things about PC gaming , I won't fire off a list because we have plenty of that being done day to day on various gaming sites.

If you yearn for a certain era of gaming then you can find your fix among the gaming world today. The great thing about the Indie scene is that its filling the void so well that big developers/publishers haven't been able to do for a while. Its like Hollywood versus the Independent film maker and as long as they both are around then needs will be met.

Also nearly any game you loved from the days past can be played and likely has a community surrounding it and that's all thanks to the Internet.

My comment was strictly related to a specific game. I still game on the PC regularly .

I pretty much stick to indie games anymore, there seems to be a lot more creativity in them than your standard overhyped so called triple A xbox ports, of which they all are these days. I can't even play fps anymore. They're all so worthless. I don't buy anything from ubi, activision, ea, or microsoft anymore. Fuck them all. They are the reason it's all gone to shit. I really have a hard time spending more than five to ten dollars on anything because I'm tired of getting burned. I'm starting to play stuff I never would have even though about years ago like adventure and puzzle platformers, and tower defense. It seems to be refreshing.
