I'm a heavy gamer... I wanna get into it. Is Diablo 3 worth $20 at the microsoft store... or does it suck and is just bait for the next expansion pack as some people say?

Diablo is well worth $20

I'm in the crowd that thinks gamers are way too critical of games when it simply comes down to cost.

Most of you are willing to spend $20 for a single dinner, or some snacks and a movie, but are worried about spending $20 on a game that you can play for hours upon hours? (sometimes hundreds)

Well worth $20

Tbh, I would spend the bucks on it. I, just like many others, was super excited for it... But then playing it was so Bleh. Blizzard had so much potential to do it right, but failed to make people happy. Character layout felt very wow like to me, story line was ok, but the game was seriously only about ten hours long. Rock baldurs gate ii if you're looking for a du geon crawler. Or path of exiles is a free one.

If you like that kind of game yea $20 is a great deal. Try it out first, if you like it buy it.

Try the starter edition first if you're that on the fence about it. I'd say its not worth $5 but I'm bitter given how bad they screwed things up on release. My worst game buy of 2012 and even 2013. The expansion looks promising (Auction house goes away) but I won't be touching it until they put it on sale for sub $20. I've already paid $60, I'm not giving them more money to fix what should've been done right in the first place. They'll still require you to be online just to play the game too.

d3 for 20 is damn good
right now the game feels bland to be honest. The new expansion coming out is hopefully going to be amazing. So bite now for 20!

I believe its worth the $20.00 as a player that invested maybe 200 hours into the game or so. I spent time basically generating a lvl 60 monk and then grinding out paragon 100. My character is by no means amazing as fully buffed he only does 220k dps or so but I enjoyed the gameplay during my first run through of the storyline. Didn't mind it the second time. Mostly skipped the story on the third/fourth difficulty completions.

The grinding, is a bit of a love-hate relationship. I tend to find 2-3 legendaries a night due to having fully maxed out MF and killing fairly fast. However, 90% of all legendaries you find will be of the 'instant salvage for crafting materials' type.

Of the 10% of all legendaries that are good, maybe 20% will be for your class. Of the 20%, for your class when you identify it, there's about a 10% chance its good and 50% chance its 'ok', 37% chance its terrible and that small small 3% chance its a GREAT item or an upgrade over what you bought via gold on the AH.

The good side in the AH is closing down and won't be in the next expansion so finding gear will be more important -- or crafting it. The catch-22, is that the loot system atm is basically just a cluster f*** of random rng rolls, praying for a drop thats decent out of your very few legendary drops, praying its something your class can actually use and then praying it IDs into something good (1 in 1,000 leg imo) or great (1 in 10,000 leg imo). As long as you understand that the gear-system is pretty terrible and in some ways inferior to some other games like PoE, I like the stat-system better in D3, like the gameplay better in D3 and the atmosphere. It's a bit more polished than PoE though PoE is cheaper and arguably improving much quicker than D3 has since launch.

However, D3's expansion is stealing a lot of the better features of POE minus item crafting. So, we'll see what happens in the future :). Regardless for the 200 hours or so of gameplay, it felt like a great deal to me!

Yes - depending on your personality - a ton of dimensions to tweak. I've remade my witch doctor a couple time: Maxing MF, then going full Critical Strike Chance / Critical Strike Damage.
Not to mention rotating around skills. A lot of fun!

I've bailed on D3 for now until the expansion is out. Sometimes the Auction House can become a rabbit hole. I'll be glad when it's gone.

I didn't like diablo 3.

You might get enough enjoyment out of it for $20 though.

I picked it up for $20. I think I'll get that out of it. I find it ridiculous that they are charging $40 for the expansion, though. Blizzard has gotten greedy as fuck.

I may also wait until Loot 2.0 to play it seriously.

I hated Diablo 3 due to my hugely inflated expectations (D2 was so good I expected D3 to be better...) but for $20 it's worth it. Supposedly the expansion will help some of us D2 fans enjoy this game so if you can get both of them for under $60 it might be worth it (when it comes out).

$20 for full game, yes...$40 for expansion (or rather loot 2.0 and one more level) no...
