Surprised they are still selling these speakers or the fact they are still in production.

Thanks, OP. Picking these up today and I can't wait to listen to some music with my soundblaster :D

Excellent set of speakers. I picked them up 2 years ago (Nov. 2011) for $90 from Best Buy when they went on sale. Only problem Ive had is the volume near low settings doesnt register properly and only plays from one speaker. Just keep them turned up slightly higher than the lowest setting and theyve been great!

Did you adjust the volume from the speaker or windows?

I'm glad they still make 'em. Love the crap out of them and two pairs make Godly 4.2 setups
Just counted and I have about 13 sets of these - 10 being used 24/7/365, 3 spares in the garage.

From the speaker. I just lower the windows volume so its not so sensitive on the knob controller. Wasnt always like this btw, occurred about a year after purchase.

Interesting. I usually kept the volume on my speakers all the way up and control it solely through windows.

Ain't that a blip. I just pulled my 4.1 set into the garage to repair a buzzing and was using the instructions on the sub forum here. These are great speakers. I might pick up the 2.1 just in case.

This is a really solid 2.1 setup for the price, you can usually find it for this price a couple times a year at Best Buy and Cowboom (owned by Best Buy) occasionally has refurb sets for $80.

My set also has the issue where sound only comes out of one speaker if you turn the volume knob really really low (I think just about every set does because I've gotten into the habit of testing the floor model any time I'm in a Best Buy and so far 6 out of 6 have had the issue). I try to keep the volume statically set between 25% - 35% and just use the sound control in game or in my Xonar software but this isn't always as convenient as just turning a knob. Just something to think about before going in on a set.

Other than that... I freaking LOVE these speakers. Any decent set up with an actual receiver will of course sound better... But as far as 2.1 systems that plug into the headphone jack go, these will blow you away. Excellent sound quality and bass for a $100 self powered system.

P.S.
On a side note... I'm moving to Oahu in August and may throw a used set of these up in the FS section here for $60 or so if anyone in the Seattle area is in need, lol.

I didn't need anything this highend for my wife's PC, but picked up some Logitech Z130 for $10 shipped. Ordered at 2pm today and was shocked to see it already shipped by 5pm EST and Best Buy sent it Next Day Air to arrive by tomorrow lol. It wasn't an X-Mas gift or anything but it looks like Best Buy is in fully X-Mas deadline mode.

I have the Klipsch 5.1 set and it sounds amazing...almost a bit too powerful for a PC setup though...the 2.1 set sounds nice...might 'downgrade' to it although I would miss the surround sound

*I have a separate 5.1 setup for my home theater

Went for the in store pickup. They are a lot bigger than anticipated. The satellites look tiny in the pic.

Hmm, worth taking back the Logitech Z533 I got for $50? Mild gaming, and youtube/gametrailers/twitch is about all the sound I use them for.

When did these speakers come out? I think I've seen then over ten years ago when shopping for new speakers.

I would. Hands down best bang for the buck in speakers (even though its a bit more expensive bang for the buck)

That'd be about right, lol. They came out in 2002 or 2003 and have only undergone very minor changes since.

I couldn't be happier with mine that I picked up a year ago. Replaced a set of MAudio AV40s when I couldn't take the constant hum any longer, which replaced the Monsoon MM2000s that I miss.

I have two sets. Both with crap plugs going into the amp... I fixed one, but still.... I hope they fixed that shitty connector.

But, when they work - they are EXCELLENT. Can't complain with the quality of the sound.

In for one! My old Cambridge SoundWorks system has developed an irritating buzz.

Thanks OP!

Merry Christmas!!!

Is it normal that more bass is coming out of my speakers rather than the sub?

are 2.1 speakers good for gaming?...or are 5.1 speakers overrated for gaming and mostly used for movies?

For gaming I'd recommend headphones over anything else. In games where directional sound is crucial, such as hearing footsteps in an FPS, 5.1 doesn't come close to headphones. But then, headphones can't produce that home shaking, neighbor pissing off effect of a good subwoofer.

Minor my a*s. Compare the amp from an early unit with currently shipping ones - weighs a heck of a lot less. Sounds different too - the earlier amp was slightly better, but ran a lot hotter.

I don't like headphones because I want to hear the phone ring, chat with other people sometimes etc...I am thinking about getting rid of my current 5.1 PC speakers and downgrading to 2.1 because I don't see the benefits as much...for movies it makes a huge difference but for games not so much...plus the extra clutter of wires and speaker placement

These are amazing speakers, i've had mine for 7 years and I love them. You can't go wrong with these, definitely a bargain at 99$ IMO

Have you tried open style headphones?

Nearest bestbuy to me had one that was open boxed.. I can get them to lower price since its an open box, or should i just go for a new one and skip saving about $20...?

I've had M50s and AD700s, the AD700 being the best for FPS, but as the other person said I don't like the feeling of being totally cutoff from everything around me.
I just turn up my Klipsch's, which doesn't take much, and fill the room with sound. I can still hear what's going on in the real world.

I used game with headphones but not anymore.

Surprised they are still selling these speakers or the fact they are still in production.

That's because the 2.1s were their only set that wasn't plagued by amp problems. My release set 2.1 is still running strong. My 5.1 and 5.1 ultras both eventually went belly up.

I believe Best Buy is the sole contract on these.

These are great speakers, and a steal at $100.

Crank the control on the speaker to about half-way and use windows to control the volume.

Rheostats are not necessarily perfect, and having a channel drop out near the very edge is not unusual.

They did. This was the one weak spot on these when they first came out, and for a few years. I lost a set due to it.

The plug used to go straight in, and if anything touched it, it damaged it.

For a few years now they have come with a right-angle plug in that stops that issue.

I bit...I have an old set of Altec-Lansing 4.1 THX speakers that the sub only works half of the time, so I've been looking for a decent replacement.

Got a set for my dad for Christmas. He bought me the 4.1's for my 16th birthday and I used them for probably 5 years until the amp crapped out on me. I hear the 2.1's are more reliable, hope so. These are fantastic sounding speakers. Best small speakers I've ever owned (or heard for that matter).
