MSI GTX 780 Gaming $420 AR HOT! (Pay with Masterpass)

In what games? Haven't noticed that with my gtx 780 oc'd to 1176 core mhz and 2500k at 4.5ghz
Hitman Absolution, Metro 2033, Far Cry 3, Crysis 3, Fallout NV and a couple of others. there are spots in those games where gpu usage will drop off enough to where I cant even maintain 60 fps. only way to stay at at 99% usage even without vsync is to increase settings enough to where my gpu cant even maintain 60 fps. either way I am screwed at times since I want to run vsync.

power target only goes to 103% on my gaming card. I thought even the reference 780 cards offered 106%.

and mine does not oc all that great either. cant even do 1163 at stock voltage and I really dont wont to raise the voltage.

I'm guessing the 103% power limit is in place because MSI is already tapping beyond the 100% power limit to hit the stock speeds. Anyways, mine hits 1189 core / 7000 vram (have not tried higher vram) at stock voltage for it's highest stability.

I would have been stoked for 1200mhz+ but I'm super happy. My benchmarks for Metro LL and Bioshock Infinite are coming in higher than review benchmarks of reference gtx780 TI's, so for $420 that is pretty amazing.

yeah probably so and its not really an issue since it has not gone over 95% power usage even when oced.

well the highest core speed I have tried that worked is 1163 with a .025 bump in voltage for 1.187. really no matter how high I raise the voltage which goes up to .063 it actually only applies .025.

highest I successfully tried on vram was 6600.

Metro LL still sucks and cant stay above 60 the whole time even without SSAA or physx on at all. framerate can be WAY over 100 then might drop to upper 50s around a corner. Far Cry 3 is way better though at least the parts I tested.

Got my card but seems that I can't increase the voltage. Increasing the core voltage in Afterburner doesn't seem to have any effect. When the card is under 99% load GPU-z shows the VDDC at around 1.00 - 1.02V regardless of whether core voltage is at +0 or max (+62) or anywhere in between. Power limit is at 103%. I have "unlock voltage control" checked in Afterburner settings. Am I doing something wrong?

My card has actually hit 105% in power usage a few times. I was wrong about mine hitting 1189, the highest stable core I can get is 1176 in Metro LL or Crysis Warhead with the ram at 7000mhz. I haven't tried messing with the voltage at all. What are your temps at? Mine tops out at 74 C @60-65% fan speed when continuously looping the Metro LL benchmark. I'm thinking about putting some CLU on IHS.

Sigh, looks like I lost the silicon lottery. Even with 103% and +63 in Afterburner my card can't handle more than +146 to core speed, which Afterburner reports as a boost speed of 1100. Temps max out around 70-71. Been reading the 780 Lightning thread in the Nvidia forum here and wondering if I should try to hack Afterburner for more voltage or just accept what I have now.

+146 should be way above 1100 as these cards boost to 1019 out of thee box. I can do +116 for 1124 on mine for an every day oc but it will go higher if I wanted to oc it more. it seems 1163 with plus .025 voltage is the highest. and 1150 is highest with stock voltage.

at 1163 with .025 voltage increase and 6600 mem it will hit 103% and even throttled down to 1150 one time during valley. I will never actually run it at that setting though and was just checking to see what card was capable of.

Seems clear to me that I don't understand how to OC this card yet. What can I rely on to report actual speeds? Not at home right now but I'm nearly certain that Heaven/Valley were showing 1400 (when I had it set to +146) during benching! I also misspoke above - it's GPU-z that reports a boost clock of 1100 at +146, not Afterburner.

Valley does not report core speeds correctly. Run MSI afterburner in the background (make sure you have the latest beta), and just look at what afterburner says your core speed is hitting. It might fluctuate a little, but should level out above 1150mhz with your overclock.

At the risk of asking a stupid question... why do you say 13 mhz increments? The slider in Afterburner is in increments of 1...

well the increments in precision mean nothing really. the gpu is going to actually increase in 13mhz increments. in fact every other notch in precision does nothing at all.

Any higher then 1189 and I'll get artifacts and driver errors. Definitely happy with 1189/7000 though. I too noticed my 2500k @ 4.5ghz can bottle neck the 780 for short periods in bf4(haven't played other games yet)

yeah so pissed off that my cpu cannot even maintain 60fps in some games.

I'm the same as you guys, max of 1189/1176 with memory at 7ghz at +62 and 103%. Half an hour of Heaven/Valley and temps stabilized at 67C.

The 780 I ordered from this deal has been installed...I went a little different and got a Gigabyte OC windforce edition as when I ordered the pricing on the MSI was messed up. I have to say, I'm impressed so far...the thing boosts to 1110mhz right out of the box, way more than I expected...and it has Samsung ram. Looks promising...maybe I finally got a good overclocking card? (in all my years of pc building, it seems that all of my gpu's have been crappy OC'ers.)
