Steam 2013 Winter sale is here! runs from December 19th to January 2nd.

had to pick up farcry 3 and dlc for the price its good! Damn Steam wallets hates u.lol

Does anyone know what The Secret World has evolved into (if anything)? I tried out the very first beta they had and it had me rather disinterested. They made it out to be some kind of mystic setting, but it ended up being a lot of the same crap that you see in other MMORPGs, what with that starting level with weak enemies and crap and then these random low level quests and then some kind of hub to other places... was pretty trite.

The Secret world (when I played it, back at release) was quite good.

When I played it was very solo-friendly , you could find a group easily by asking in chat or looking at the people who ere /lfg (though there was no queue system at the time, not sure if that's changed).

The thing that made it fun and stand out is that it's a story-focused mmo that actually has interesting storylines/characters (if you like horror themes, movies, books, etc). What made it stand out the most was that it actually had some great adventure-style storylines where you actually have to use your brain and look for clues, even search the in-game web browser and fool around with things. It did not just give you a waypoint to finish every single quest.

Don't get me wrong, it does have its fair share of the usual "go kill x/fetch y" mmo quests that is in every mmo with quests, but these adventure-style quests made it stand out and were great.

It's not hard to see why when it was developed by Ragnar (who worked on The Longest Journey adventure series and is working on the new one that was kickstarted).

Another thing that made it stand out was the way you can build your character. You are not tied to ANYTHING, you are free to make your character how you want, mixing skills (and you actually DO want to mix two skill types, as it has a synergy system).

Also there's no way to "mess" up your character as the xp you gain doesn't have a cap, so if you take a skill and don't want it, you didn't "mess" up your character or have to reroll, as you can simply gain more exp and take your character into a different skill.

You are able to obtain all the skills in the game, it just takes time. The way this is balanced is that like Guild Wars, you have a limited hotbar of skills, and you have to pick which ones you want to use, so having all the skills doesn't mean you're "better" then someone else or anything.

Your weapons determine what combat skills you can use, and you want tofocus your skills on at least two weapon types (as I said, there's a synergy system to combat that plays one typeoff another).

Your clothing and things however you are free to dress how you want, this isn't the type of mmo where your clothing has stats and you must look this way to get the best stats. Instead the stats mostly come from talismans and things which you loot/buy.

Combat itself however, is probably the low point of the game, it's not terrible, but it gets repetitive and boring, you will literally be doing the same hotkey rotations over and over. Though to me almost any mmo has boring combat.

As far as any other thing, I will say if you are a horror fan, HP lovecraft, classic horror movies, b-horror movies, Stephen King, etc then the atmosphere, storylines, and the easter eggs will be right up your alley. There's plenty of horror nods and inspirations from many horror classics.

You might even recognize a certain actor who does the voice for characters that even takes a poke at his own famous b-horror movie role (if you are a fan of 80's horror movies you'll know him).

If you're asking if it's a MMORPG then, yes, it's a MMORPG. If you're buying that type of game but are expecting something else then you will be disappointed.

I bought it last year and got about a months worth of enjoyment out of it. It seems like that would be worth $10.

Weak....This is prolly the worst sale day in recent memory...

Edit : They fixed the prices. Better, but not great.

bit on the universe sandbox for 1.99.. good reviews, surround friendly, and looks like visual fun.

Anyone remember how cheap Bulletstorm was? I voted for it but missed the sale price.

so according to the first post, the 'flash sale' for deus ex says $2.44, but when i click on the link it says $4.99? also says its suppose to last until 6pm. i'm confused, unless it was a typo?

Steam price mistake it lasted about 2 mins before they fix it. Yesterday Bioshock Infinite season pass was 4.99 for about a min.

Any word on Bulletstorm having GFWL removed or will the game become simply unplayable in the near future?

Oh, it'll be playable one way or another. ;) If they don't patch GFWL out, I'll find a way to get my money's worth out of it.

And this is part of the problem with the MMORPG community. They just keep eating the same trash up without caring, and calling something different "not an MMORPG". So yes, I was expecting something different from the usual crap when I played it. It didn't happen. Just a bunch of "special" "me's" running around doing crap in tired out starting zones and all of the usual crap that I see in any MMORPG. The combat system back then kind of sucked, too. I don't know if it was improved.. There hasn't really been anything I would call innovation in the genre in ages.

Side note, 3D Mark for 2.50. Hard to resist for that price...

Sounds like a glass half empty kind of guy. Lighten up, just a game! :)

Warhammer 40,000 will change everything or maybe Everquest next will shun crtics of MMOs with Disney like characters.

Tomb Raider for $25? Wasn't that on sale for like $6 just a few weeks ago?

OP here, guys wait at least 10 minutes and let Steam servers settle down :p they always screw up the prices the first 5-10 minutes every day!

This year has really sucked (imo).

A bunch of reshashes (hasn't Shadow warrior already been on a flash sale/daily sale? I've seen it at this price every day here or other sites).

Anyone got any comments on Dragon Age: Origins?

Seems like a good deal on the Ultimate Edition and it's got something like a 91/100 Metacritic score...

I missed the Far Cry 3 Daily Deal at $7.49 yesterday...does Steam offer that price again on the last day of the sale ?...or do they ever offer an even cheaper Flash Sale on a game throughout the Holiday sale?

Bump for the Op's effort.

Imo, earned a respectable title or a temperary sticky.

It's a great game, pre ea corruption of bioware. It's a long game, if you liked the older RPG's with more depth and play time, you should own Origins.

Just checked, I have 98 hours played, well worth the money and I pre ordered it.

Make sure to check that you have all of the dlc loaded in and one of the PITA is that you probably need to create a bioware account to activate the extra in game content.

Enjoy.

I swear the next vote had Resident Evil 6 for 80% off, which I voted for, but then I checked later and it's DmC?
